Cassie was out doing a mixture of window shopping and looking for a job. Fela was an awesome person to be living with, but she wanted to be able to contribute something towards the household. She and Diana hadn't talked about it, but they weren't going back to the school right now and they couldn't give blood samples to the Council in order to be employed. The school thing wasn't that big of a deal since they had both been ahead in their scores back home and they had worked out that it was unlikely that if they ever did go home that their school would be able to get their transcripts from Madison Valley. So, they'd be right back in the same school situation they'd left. Cassie was all right with that since she and Diana had a lot more to worry about than the classes here in Madison. Making sure that they -- ok, she -- could keep control of her magic was one of the priorities on the list. Diana learning how to handle her own dark magic was also on that list. They may not like the kind of magic flowing in their blood -- or who it had come from -- but it was there, a part of them, and they needed to know how to use and control it. The danger in Chance Harbor didn't go away just because they had managed to kill Blackwood. There were others of his line out there. There were others who would come looking for the sisters -- either to harm them to take their powers or to try to make them be one of them; the Balcoin Coven.
Cassie was pulled out of her thoughts by a yell and she turned in time to see a young woman step into the street in front of a car. The woman stumbled back but Cassie knew there was no way she would get out of the way and the driver would not be able to stop in time to keep from hitting her.
Not stopping to think, Cassie broke into a run and then tackled the woman out of the way, rolling with her until they were out of the way. She felt part of the car hit her hip, but she couldn't think about that right now. A crowd was gathering around them and Cassie managed to roll off of the girl she had saved and sat up, peering down into her face.
