Marley smiled at him from where she was standing among some of the townspeople who were listening to Kvothe sing. She had been out window shopping to get an idea of what presents she could afford for people when she heard the familiar voice. She’d known Kvothe had an amazing voice, of course, but hearing him singing traditional carols of this world instead of Curley’s songs from the play was quite a bit different. She enjoyed hearing him give vocalization to some of her favorite songs of the season.
When no one else spoke up right away in response to Kvothe’s question about requests, Marley stepped forward.
“Do you know The First Noel?” It was her mom’s favorite song for Marley to sing to her and right now she was thinking about her mom a lot and worrying about her.
Marley was pretty sure that Kvothe had learned all kinds of carols, so she wouldn’t be surprised if he knew exactly what song she was talking about. She was tempted to ask him to sing her favorite carol, but the problem was that she knew she wouldn’t be able not to sing it with him, and this was his show.
Unlike some people back home, she didn’t try to steal the limelight from other performers.
She put her hands inside her coat pocket as she waited for Kvothe to respond.
