Elena woke up and immediately almost wished she hadn't.
She was pretty sure that she and Caroline had drank almost their body weight in alcohol and that was leaving her feeling pretty rough last night. Agreeing to go drinking with Caroline was a better idea than what she wanted to do when Hayley showed up, but it did have certain drawbacks. While she and Caroline were vampires and could drink an awful lot of alcohol, they would have at least a small hangover the next day.
The bigger problem was that being a vampire meant that Elena would remember everything that she had done the night before. Her phone wasn't on her nightstand, so she was pretty sure that Damon had probably taken hers from her about the same time Anna was taking away Caroline's. She turned her head and saw that Damon was resting peacefully and she smiled faintly before silently getting out of the bed.
She had taken a shower and gotten cleaned up when she picked up someone moving around downstairs. Brushing her out, she went down the stairs, only to realize that it was Stefan in the kitchen. She stood, watching him and not sure what she should do. While she loved Damon and was happy in her relationship with him, she would always love Stefan and she missed the closeness they used to have. She missed his friendship. She had been through so damn much in the last few years and this most recent year was the worst one, yet.
Wanting to give him his space and not bother him like she had promised herself she would do, Elena was about to slip out the door. However, when she stepped back from the entry way of the kitchen, Stefan turned, seeing her.
"Coffee," she repeated, then nodded. "Ok." When he asked her how she was feeling, she was hesitant to answer, but finally went with honesty. "Wondering why a vampire can do so many other things, but when we drink our weight in alcohol, it stays with us the next day."
Or maybe that was just her and Caroline because she didn't remember Damon ever suffering from hangovers when he did an all night drinking session.
