Finnick spoke softly, making his voice as gentle as he could. He knew that she needed him to reassure her, to make her feel safe in this strange place where they found themselves. It would, of course, be far easier if Finnick understood where they were, how they'd gotten there, and whether there was any hope of ever getting home. He didn't understand any of these things, and he wouldn't lie to Annie about their situation. That would only lead to bigger hurts later.
"There aren't any Peacekeepers here, Annie," he said softly. "Not like the ones at home. We're miles and miles and miles...and maybe even years away from them. We aren't in danger here. And I'm here to protect you, even if there were."
