He was a shadow behind her, a shade that had nothing to do with the looming sundown. It was comforting in as many ways as it was disconcerting. He didn’t say anything--he never did--didn’t expect anything, and simply accompanied Sarissa as if he had nowhere better to be. But she wondered idly, as she paused near the fountain, if he thought of being somewhere else. And where that somewhere would be? And further, why didn’t he go to it?
Sarissa settled on the edge of the fountain, leaning on one hand as she half turned and dipped her fingers into the warm water, swirling them around the create little waves that broke the surface. She wasn’t worried about being seen by humans. She was slowly delving into Summer’s magic as it existed inside her--that place of warmth and comfort, and life--and had practiced her hand at a glamor to shield them both. As far as Fae magic was concerned it was basic in nature, but not as crude as it could have been. Mab had prepared her for this, and Titania would teach her everything else. For now she learned on her own, and the magic would become second nature.
“You may come closer,” she said, pulling her fingers from the water, “Sir Knight.” And raised her green-gold eyes from the stone to look at him.
