Who: Eloise and Logan What: checking out the art show Where: art museum When: during Alyssa’s art show (the 5th) Rating: should be lowish Status: Closed; g-doc Eloise wasn’t entirely certain what to expect from an art show in this town. Even less certain, what sort of art Alyssa might do, considering she seemed…strange. The younger Bridgerton sister wondered what her elder two brothers would think of her. Of the many various people (and beings) in this town.
But she wore a cute dress and made her way to the museum. At least she could enjoy hors d’euvres. The teen stopped in front of a painting and titled her head, unsure how she felt about the piece in general.
Logan would never miss a chance to support any of his friends and so he was at the museum wandering among the displays of Alyssa’s art. He was always amazed at the things she created and how each piece seemed to have a life of its own.
He stopped to admire one of her paintings and then noticed someone else was looking at it like they were thinking deeply about it.
“Alyssa’s art is really thought-provoking,” he said with a friendly smile.
She looked at the (who she presumed to be) fellow teenager. He obviously knew Alyssa, though the blonde seemed to know everyone in Eloise’s estimation.
“I… we don’t have art like this back home.” Eloise considered her words. “Or, we do, and us highborn ladies aren’t allowed to see it.” She hadn’t seen anything like it and wished her brother was here to admire the art too.
“You know Alyssa then? I do not know her well, but she seems nice. And very talented.”
Logan nodded. “She was one of the first people I met when I arrived here. I think she was the first friend I made.”
He wasn’t sure what exactly she meant by highborn ladies, but he guessed that it probably meant that she wasn’t from a modern time.
“I’m sorry that you aren’t able to view artists like Alyssa back in your home. I’ve always believed that art should be for everyone.” He gave her another friendly smile. “I’m Logan.”
Eloise nodded in understanding. Alyssa seemed the sort most would want for a friend, just because she was so nice and friendly (and El hadn’t seen her in scary mode). “I’m glad.”
Eloise meant the gentry and nobility back home. The ones who had to follow all of the rules to make a good marriage.
“Nice to meet you Logan. Oh, I’m allowed to view art, like flowers or family portraits. Nothing that makes one think as Alyssa’s art does.” Even Bran’s photos caused one to pause and think. “Have you been in town long?”
To be fair, Logan had never seen Alyssa in scary mode, either. He had no doubts that she could be scary, but he had always prided himself in not being the cause of someone being upset or scary because of his presence.
“I’ve been here about two years,” he answered after he thought about her question. He looked a little surprised at his realization.
A lot had happened in two years.
“Are you new in Madison?”
“Oh. That’s a long time. So, as a teenager here,” (okay 18 was still a teenager. She’d looked into the terminology after all.) “What are some tips? I’m still getting used to living in a place where I can go on a date without a chaperone...or go on a date at all. We have the Marriage Mart, but that’s different.” And Eloise had yet to meet someone at home she could stand to dance with for five minutes, let alone marry.
“I arrived in the spring. The end of April. So not so new, but new enough.” Eloise knew that this place could throw random things at them without a blink of an eye. She didn’t love this to be honest, but at least she had freedom.
“The Marriage Mart?” That was definitely something that he had never heard of before. “Well, if you want to know about places to meet people, there’s The Loft -- they have food and board games. There’s also the two colleges. Uhm, we have Watchtower Arcade. That is a place for people under 20 to hang out at and it has games and live music. Sometimes they hold parties for the town’s teenagers. The bowling alley is a good place to meet other people, as well.” He gave her a smile. “The ice rink will be open in a few weeks for ice skating and sports so that is always a good place to meet people.”
He was trying to think of what other places usually had a good group of suitably aged people hanging out from time to time.
“Yes, how our mamans and fathers find us ladies suitable husbands.” Did Eloise sound like she found the whole thing gross? Yup. She did. “I like the Loft. We don’t have so many games back home,” the teen admitted. “I do take classes at the college, but only the ones I wish to take.” El did not possess traditional learning, but she loved reading and analyzing written words, so she took literature classes.
“Oh, a place for us to hang sounds great.” El was still only 18. “I have never gone ice skating, but at least I know what it is.”
He could agree that it didn’t sound pleasant, but as that was in her world, he didn’t want to insult her by saying the wrong thing out loud. “I think a lot of people at the colleges can relate to that. Most of the people I know that go there are taking classes they are interested in or want to learn more about.”
He nodded. “The Loft is pretty great. It’s one of my favorite places to go. Well, that and The Watchtower.” He smiled. “Madison does well and having things for all ages.”
Eloise would probably agree with anything he said about her home. More than likely anything he spoke would not differ from her own opinions. “I love that we’re able to do so,” she commented, helping herself to a glass of champagne. “Though I do appreciate that we’re trusted enough to enjoy a glass of champagne even if we’re not twenty-one.”
“If you ever want to introduce me to The Watchtower, that would be great! I’d love to make some more friends,” Eloise admitted with a smile.
“I would be happy to do that,” Logan said with a cheerful smile. “It's always a good thing to make more friends anywhere that you are.”
He nodded as he took a glass that had Apple cider in it, instead. “That's one of the many good things I have found about Madison. It has its own rules, but if you were to go into an actual bar or club here we wouldn’t be allowed to have it because they have more rules they have to abide by.”
Logan realized he had never gotten the young woman's name, but he figured if they talked more then he could just ask her.
“I could hang out with you now and introduce you to anyone we see that I know if you like?”
Logan would be okay with whatever her answer might be as he was enjoying the show and having a good night. He was glad he had come.
Eloise smiled. “I agree.” Especially in this place where nobody questions who she spoke to, something the young woman found rather freeing. She took a small sip of her drink, determined to make it last all night. “Yes, I have noticed that.” Which probably explained why she didn’t go into bars.
“Sure, that would be great. Thank you. I’m Eloise by the way.” She smiled, happy to meet some new people while she looked at art.
“It's nice to meet you, Eloise.” He smiled back at her. “I don't know if I am supposed to offer you my arm, but if we walk this way, I see some people I know from school.”
He gestured to a small group of people looking at another one of Alyssa's pieces. He was pretty sure he could help his new friend meet as many people as she would like to.
