WHO: Dimitri Belikov and Rose Hathaway
WHAT: A day off at last
WHEN: Friday
WHERE: At the park
WARNINGS: GUARDIANS CRYING
STATUS: Closed/Ongoing
Dimitri Belikov wasn't one who usually took days off for himself. That was one thing that made this day so special. Back home, being a Guardian was a job like any other. Guardians had time off, even paid vacation time. But back home, there were also more Guardians, making it easier to do that. Here, it was all they could do to keep the Moroi protected.
But putting Castile - a perfectly competent Guardian - on Rose's day shift today wasn't sacrificing anyone's safety, and gave him and Rose some time to be together. Which they needed.
He had made all the purchases they'd spoken about last night during his trip to Wal-mart, and although the picnic basket was almost ridiculously heavy, he had no trouble carrying it. Being a dhampir had its advantages.
Reaching the park, they found an out of the way picnic place that wasn't crowded early on a weekday and spread out a blanket on the ground in the sun before putting down the basket. Dimitri was still wearing his duster, despite the growing heat; he had to admit that he felt almost naked without it, even in the summer. It would probably end up having to come off sometime today, but it was still early enough in the morning that he could bear it.
He sighed, laying back on the blanket, laying his head in Rose's lap as he looked up at the bright sky. As dhampirs on a mostly night schedule, the sun itself was a treat.
"Ah, Roza, I can't remember the last time we had a whole day."
