Elijah and Kayla didn’t usually spend a lot of time together, on account of their schedules, but the pair decided to grab lunch and catch up, since they had a rare lunch free. Kayla was busy with classes and work (and sometimes cooking), while Elijah had classes, time with Clawdeen, and trying to keep his relationships going with his siblings.
They’d just existed the restaurant with the intention of Elijah driving Kayla back home, when the Original spotted a familiar figure. Who Kayla didn’t recognize since she didn’t come from their world.
“Uncle ‘Lijah? Do you know her?” the teen asked. So many people showed up from their world and then left, so she couldn’t always keep good track.
Without even looking, Jenna could tell her knees were probably scratched up just like her hands from falling and hitting the ground only a few minutes ago. Even with the welcoming committee doing what she figured was a normal song and dance, she felt even more confused than when they came upon her. “Yeah, thanks for nothing,” she called out, her hands still stinging from the fall as they wandered off to probably be just as unhelpful for the next person. Elena had needed her and of course, she couldn’t even be there for her niece. The one time she was actually looked to for help, and not kept in the dark like she had been for a while now, and she couldn’t even come through. No, instead on her way out the door, she stumbled on the sidewalk and tripped causing the scratches. All Jenna knew was if Klaus did anything to Elena, she swore…. But before she could finish that thought when turning to head in the direction of the apartment a figure caught her attention. Squinting her eyes, she realized it was him only he looked different. Could it be that look alike thing that Elena had been telling her about and the name was escaping her right now? The hairstyle was different than the last she saw only a little while ago. Then again she wasn’t even where she had been, so maybe new hairstyles on people she knew were a thing. Before she could open her mouth someone hit into her shoulder. “Seriously?” She called after them in an annoyed tone before turning her attention back. “Elijah?” She asked, cautiously cause after everything and then this, Jenna wanted to make sure. Taking note of the young girl whom she did not know at all. Kayla had gotten used to people showing up from her dad’s world. Outside of his immediate family, though, she hadn’t gotten to know most of them. Run in with Elena notwithstanding. Some of them seemed decent enough (though she didn’t love the idea of multiple people trying to kill her father, even if she realized Kol probably brought on some of the problems himself). Here, he’d turned over a new leaf and she felt okay with giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, even Bonnie. She also tried to ignore more network posts involving her father since he flirted like Kayla fucking breathed.
She stared curiously at the blonde woman who spoke, and looked at her uncle. “Please tell me not another person my dad attempted to kill. I think one every month or so is my limit.” The brunette turned towards the woman. “Hi. I’m Kayla and you’re wearing the face of someone…who just arrived. Welcome to the headache that is the Dome.”
Elijah hadn’t expected to see Jenna ever again. She’d been another one that Niklaus killed and Elijah knew how much that had hurt Elena and Jeremy. After losing their parents, how could it not hurt them?
Her face told the Original a lot and he opened his mouth to speak, when Kayla did. “No.” Given he could tell Jenna was still human, Elijah didn’t elaborate, but at least his niece relaxed slightly.
“So, you’re in a Dome. There are people from our world here and various other worlds, like Kayla, Kol’s daughter. I’m sorry that Jeremy isn’t here, but Elena is and she’ll be so happy to see you.” The pair could decide how much Jenna knew.
He actually walked over and hugged her, briefly, not usually one into hugs. “You’re going to have a lot of questions, but I suppose the only one I have is what is the last thing that happened to you back home?”
Jenna had raised an eyebrow at the comment that left the young woman’s mouth, confused as to who she might be talking about. Right now, she really wasn’t sure if her brain could handle hearing the stories were even more of a lie and that vampires could have children. Her mind was already working on everything at the speed of lightning to where she felt if she stopped even for a moment, she would lose her mind. Thankfully, she was able to portray herself as calm and collected while losing it completely on the inside. If this girl was somehow connected to Klaus, then Jenna did not want to say how she might be thinking of how to kill the man, especially if anything happened to Elena or Jeremy. Though, she also felt that was unfair to take a father away from someone even if the man was a bastard. She had seen the damage of losing both her sister and brother-in-law had done to Jeremy and Elena. That had been without a murder, so she did not want to be the cause of that to someone else unless it was the only other option.
With a change of expression, she smiled at the young woman, taking in how she was probably around the age of her niece and nephew. “It’s nice to meet you, Kayla. I’m Jenna, and yeah, you would be correct. Probably good I showed up with already a headache forming so this place can just pile on,” her tone light to show she was joking for the most part. Kayla had no tie to what was happening back home, so she had no reason to be anything other than nice. Her attention shifted back to the man she knew, and Jenna was still baffled by how different he looked. “Yeah, I sorta got that from the welcoming crew who should come visit Mystic Falls and see how that’s done,” she told him. The name Kol brought another look of uncertainty, trying to rack her brain on everything she learned back home to see if the name was ringing any bells. However that quickly stopped at the mention of Jeremy and Elena. “Elena’s here? Is she okay?” The worry was present in her voice, eyes filled with concern as she looked at Elijah.
A sigh at hearing Jeremy wasn’t here. “Was Jeremy okay? He’s not in any danger back home?” She took a deep breath to center herself before any spiraling happened over worrying about something she couldn’t even fix. The hug was a surprise, but before he could pull back, she wrapped her arms around him to hug him back. Jenna while mad about all the lies did not hold them against him considering they never dated, weren’t family, and had no connection that warranted the truth. Letting go of him after a moment, she pushed a piece of her hair back. “I..I had just gotten a call from Elena, needing my help. I was heading out the door and tripped on the side to find myself here.”
As far as Kayla knew, vampires from their world had kids in very strange circumstances. Such as Caroline being a surrogate and her Aunt Bex getting pregnant as a human for one night. “Kol is adopting me, to be clear. He’s another Mikaelson.” The woman looked very calm and collected, but Kayla didn’t buy the expression for one fucking second.
She laughed. “Well, it wouldn’t be the Dome to not pile on a headache. I didn’t handle it well when I showed up the first time…or lost my literal shit when I returned with new memories.” The teen would be turning 19 this year. “Nice to meet you, Jenna.”
Elijah didn’t plan on saying anything about Jeremy. He liked Elena’s brother enough, but a lot happened between Jenna’s death and his own. “I assume he’s okay.” Honestly, he also couldn’t remember, but thought Jeremy ended up at Caroline’s school. He waited until Jenna let go. The Original always liked her.
“At least you can talk to Elena. She’s been here a few months.” Kayla nodded. “She’s nice.” As far as someone who murdered her father went, though Kayla had actually liked the fellow young woman.
Jenna gave the young woman a smile, and while she was currently 50/50 with Mikaelson family, she had to give this Kol person some credit on adopting the girl. Knowing how hard it was to take on a teenager, but to do that of his own choice, she had to respect the man without even knowing him. “Congratulations on the adoption aspect. That’s a very big step and while I don’t know either of you, I’m very happy for you both.” Jenna meant it because there had to be a reason for that process to be happening, and it wasn’t a simple decision. “Alright, so we have you,” she pointed at Elijah, “Kol, and Klaus,” her tone shifting for a brief moment when saying that last name. “Anymore Mikaelson’s that I need to know about? And please tell me they are nothing like Klaus,” she knew it was wrong to put that on Elijah that type of question, but he was the best person to ask on his own siblings. Also, she had every reason to dislike the man. Between taking over her boyfriend’s body, being a grade A dick in that body, the whole ordeal in her place, and now this with Elena..yeah, she was definitely allowed to feel how she did to Klaus.
“I think what’s semi-helping is my life was a bit imploding back home with people keeping secrets from me. So we just adding all this to that pile for me to slowly pick away with as my brain figures it out.” Jenna was always upfront and said what she was thinking. It’s why so many people knew all the questionable choices and things she did over the years. Jenna owned who she was and was honest about it. Just wish everyone else was as honest as her or trusted her because right now it did not feel that way. Jenna was just thankful, she adapted quickly because right now it was needed both here and back home.
Jenna studied him closely, and her gut was saying there was something not being said. Then again her gut had kept wasn’t always the best judge of character so maybe it wasn’t the best to listen to, but oh well. She waited until she let go of him before speaking again. “If there is something I should know, I would hope you would tell me, Elijah. I think everyone has been keeping me in the dark long enough,” she told him. Jenna was tired of people treating her like she was fragile and she did not need that from someone who she considered a friend even now after knowing he had lied to her on who he really was. She liked Elijah and loved their talks, she did not need to have him lying to her anymore like so many others had.
“Yes, I can, and I’ll be sure to tell her you said that. But yeah, Elena’s nice and a great person to have in your life. Though I’m also potentially bias being that I’m her aunt,” not that it would stop her from speaking highly of either Jeremy or her. Though she could also admit when they messed up cause oh boy, did they. Not that she was ever going to judge as she made her own big giant mistakes for years now. “I’ll probably reach out to Elena after done here to go see her.” That was the new plan along with see the apartment that she was given.
Kayla looked genuinely happy, which, while still rare, happened a bit more often here. “Oh. You haven’t met Dad? What about Aunt Bex?” She wondered how one could only know some of her father’s siblings and not all. Except Finn. She’d heard exactly enough to know no thanks. Her face twisted into a look of ew at the mention of Klaus. “Decidedly not my uncle. Pretty sure he’d kill me on a day because it included the letter y.” She looked at her uncle who held up his hands in mock defeat.
She had no idea what her uncle wasn’t saying, but she could tell it wasn’t anything good.
For all her bluntness (and really she could be her father’s biological daughter at times), Kayla didn’t point out that Elena seemed a little less nice now that she knew the woman killed her dad.
Elijah hadn’t been planning on ever having this conversation. Ever. Especially not when Elena happened to be in town. Especially, especially not with Kayla standing there. She could handle a lot, but still.
“Niklaus being Niklaus… he turned you and then killed you.”
Kayla looked between the two and sighed. “Continues to not cross the bar on the fucking ground for him.”
Jenna didn’t know the situation or anything around it, but she couldn’t help but smile at how happy the young woman looked. Though she started to answer with a nod to her question, then changed her mind to answer it verbally. “No, I haven’t met your dad or your aunt,” she told her before an amused smirk showed up at the look on her face at the mention of Klaus. “I already like you. I think you have already earned position of my favorite not from my world,” she told the young woman with a smile. “I’m pretty sure he had the intention of killing me if it wasn’t for someone being there to stop the situation,” she was thankful Stefan had come to the house. Though she wish she had been more aware of what the hell had been going on in the town and under the roof of the house she lived in. The part that still made her skin crawl was how he had been in Ric’s body and may have had her thinking her boyfriend killed her.
Jenna was rather iffy about her gut considering how it was sometimes a hit or mess for her, but there was something Elijah was hiding from her, she was so sure of it. Though what left his mouth had not been what she was expecting. Of course, she knew it was going to be bad, but she feared it was Elena, Jeremy, or any of the kids that she considered family such as Bonnie or Caroline. The idea of it being her never crossed her mind, and hearing that knocked the wind right out of her. She stared at him blankly as the words sunk it, feeling sick as it started to settle in her thoughts “I’m dead?” She asked, her voice trailing off. “That wasn’t Elena who called me was it? I’m an idiot,” she said more to herself, and hating herself because she had been stupid enough to fall for the phone call. Her eyes glanced over when Kayla spoke, snapping back to where she was. Jenna pushed what she was feeling down, fighting the urge to break down since no one needed to see that, especially after her just showing up. Sensing a night of alcohol, ice cream, and bad decisions in her future after seeing Elena. “Guess he did end up getting me,” she said in reply to her earlier comment. “I’m sorry that you had to hear that,” she said to Kayla, “and I’m sorry to put you on the spot but I’ve had enough of the lying,” her eyes switching to rest on Elijah as she said that. The news of her death was trying to take up all her thoughts, but she was pushing it back, keeping her mind focused away from it. It could break her down later, but right now, she was trying hard to not let that happen. “Just tell me, he didn’t kill Jeremy or Elena? I can deal with me being dead if they are alive.” That was more important to her than anything. To know they were going to live their lives even if hers was over. Kayla hadn’t gotten off to the best start with her father. She’d arrived angry (and also terrified and worried, not that she’d admit such things) and Kol…well he’d been on a break with Allison (aka Mom), which didn’t lend itself to a good mood for her dad. Kol wore his emotions on his sleeves and Kayla came to love and accept that part of him. The teen never had to worry about Kol’s emotions because she could just…tell.
“Well, I obviously think my dad is the best, but I’m biased like that. He’s friendly. And a flirt.” Which explained why Kayla rarely, if ever, went on the network because she didn’t need to see her dad flirt with literally everyone. Kayla grinned and did a fake curtsey, a habit she’d picked up from her Aunt Alyssa. “Trust me, it’s only because I’ve been here and had time to work on myself. I doubt you would have said that to me when I first arrived.” Her smile fell from her face and she sighed. “That sounds like Klaus Mikaelson.” Kayla had zero idea about Ric or…well… a lot of history pre-New Orleans Mikaelsons.
She did turn to her uncle like what the actual fuck. If Klaus ever reappeared in this world A) he did not deserve the title of Uncle and B) he needed fucking therapy with a therapist he wasn’t…well…fucking.
“I mean, my future kid showed up and told me the guy I’ve been seeing back home murdered my best friend, so this isn’t sending me into the bathroom to puke.” Kayla shrugged. “Death seems to be a main hobby for Klaus. I’m sorry about the lies, though.”
Elijah looked at Kayla. “Niklaus was even worse before Hope.” The Original sighed and pulled out his phone, holding up the universal one second finger while he texted one of his siblings (or Marcellus) to come get Kayla. She still seemed to have no interest in learning to drive, so he couldn’t offer her his car.
His attention returned to the two women. “Someone will come pick you up, Kayla.” Elijah had no idea how much information Kol would want Kayla to know about their family and he thought that perhaps this was a conversation best left for Jenna and himself. She rolled her eyes, but agreed.
“No, I don’t believe it was your niece on the phone, but you have to understand that it’s been over a decade for me. I believe it was Klaus…”
A car pulled up and Kayla turned to Jenna. “I liked meeting you. I’m…sorry.” Elijah watched as Kayla got in the car and it pulled away.
“No, Jeremy and Elena are fine. Elena is a vampire, but she has Bonnie and Damon with her.” They’d both been through so much since Jenna’s death, but they were alive in his timeline and that’s all he cared about.
“I think the bias is valid in your shoes. I guess I have to say this one is my favorite of the Mikaelson family,” she said with a small nod of her chin to Elijah. “But that’s because I knew him and he didn’t attack or I guess kill me. The bar is low so you never know he may get bumped out of the number one slot,” she joked because it was easier than thinking about what Elijah had said. It was allowing her mind to be distracted for the moment from the terrible thoughts in her head or how she felt like a panic attack wanted to come. “I’m bias on my favorites from my world,” making it obvious as if no one could guess that Jeremy and Elena would have number 1 shared for reasons. Jenna waved off the comment, an amused smirk at the curtsey. “You never know. Little fact about me, I was the wild child growing up and kept many people on their toes with how I was.” Jenna wasn’t anywhere near as bad since becoming a guardian but she still let her hair down at times. Still, pretty much everyone who knew her well knew what she had been like. A frown appeared on hearing what Kayla had learned. Focusing on that rather than future kids. Cause it hit her how that was off the table for her no matter what back home. Did she want kids? Jenna had no idea, but now, she knew it was never possible back home. “I’m sorry you had to find out that way about your friend. And I’m also sorry for the loss of your best friend,” she said, nodding about the comment on Klaus. “I appreciate that, and hope the lies are done from everyone now.” Cause if not, then Jenna was probably going to explode, especially after learning everything only to have people trying to shove her back in the dark.
Jenna could understand Elijah wanting Kayla out of the conversation. Running her fingers through her strawberry blonde hair, taking a deep breath as she heard what Elijah had to say. That explained the change in look, but before she could say anything a car pulled up for Kayla. Smiling at the young woman, “I liked meeting you as well. You have nothing to be sorry about. If you’d like, we can grab a coffee and get to know one another under better circumstances. I think I’m good on saying your uncle can vouch that I’m a decent person,” she said, giving the girl a small wave as she headed to the car.
Now her hazel eyes focused on the man, returning to what he said. “Your brother is an asshole,” she told him, knowing he probably heard it plenty but she felt the need to say it for herself. Jenna wanted to never see Klaus ever, but at the same time, she wanted to ask the man why? To know and learn his reasoning; however, it was better to not be near him ever. “Now that explains the difference in your look,” she finally commented on the decade remark. “I like this hairstyle much better than the previous one. As for how long, I understand, but you can try to answer the best you can.” Which was all she wanted from the man she had considered a friend and still could since it wasn’t like he set her up to be hurt. He had done nothing to her, so she still considered him a friend. A sigh of relief started to escape her lips until the comment about Elena. Her eyes widened and she could feel the tightness in her chest again. “Elena’s a what? From what Damon did?” Jenna took a deep breath, trying to keep everything inside of her together. Breaking down in front of Elijah she would be fine with if it wasn’t for being in public. Last thing she wanted was a panic attack or to start crying in front of strangers. “Bonnie’s here as well? I’ll have to check on her as well. No Caroline or anyone else I know?” She decided to add the part of her considering it seemed many she hadn’t met yet. And that was keeping her from thinking about staking a certain vampire if his actions led to her niece being turned, knowing that hadn’t been what she wanted. “I know I already said it, but it’s great to see you, Elijah.” She told him. Elijah looked pleased. People rarely considered him their favourite in the family. Usually Bekah held the title, though obviously not always. He smiled at Jenna and then chuckled. “I promise I didn’t try to kill you partly because I liked you. You deserved better.” Though obviously he knew she preferred her niece and nephew, as she should. “I don’t doubt you were the wild child.”
Kayla was doing work to get past that knowledge, including sobriety meetings. Kayla nodded and added, “I’d love to get coffee sometime!” as she entered the car.
“My brother is an asshole. Who hasn’t grown up. He got mad that his siblings didn’t go atta boy when he commented on not killing anyone. Like…we’ve all managed to go without murdering people, but okay. That shouldn’t be a high bar.” He understood why Jenna would want no more lies. “No more lies from me, at least.” Elijah couldn’t make the same promise for anyone else, considering. A sigh. “I don’t know what compelled me to have my hair as I did. Not the best look, I agree.”
“She had a brain hemorrhage and a well-meaning doctor gave her some vampire blood. Unfortunately, there was a car accident and she died with vampire blood in her system.” Elijah didn’t mention who caused the car accident, but he wouldn’t lie if asked. He just didn’t want his sister in trouble for something she’d done like fifteen years prior. “Hey. Hey, breathe, Jenna.” He rested his hands on her shoulder and mimicked a few deep breaths. A shake of his head. “Care was here for years, but she and Stefan got sent home in the fall. Which is good, because Caroline would have been devastated to not have her husband. Her one daughter is still here.” He sure as fuck wasn’t going to explain the father was Ric at this particular moment. “But yes, Bonnie is here. Rebeka’s fiancé from home. Sadly you missed meeting Josh. You two would have gotten along well.” Elijah missed the vampire.
“Oh, so if you didn’t like me, then it’d be a different story?” Her tone showed signs that Jenna was only giving him a hard time. Even though he had lied to her, she never once felt in danger around him. He had always treated her well and never talked down to her like others did, which had earned him the respect that she gave him. He respected her as far she knew, and he got the same respect back. So, she felt comfortable enough to make a dark joke like that, knowing she did die back home. There was no way she’d do that with a stranger, but Elijah was a different story. “A lot of people do, but I, like many others, had a different deck stacked for us that said differently about what we deserve.” A chuckle, she tilted her head slightly. “I was a handful that’s for sure.” And probably why now she had Jeremy who was so much like her in some ways, it was her payback for what she did to everyone else.
Jenna smiled, giving her a small wave, and nodding in agreement about the coffee. She was definitely interested in grabbing coffee with the young woman, especially when she seemed nice and probably deserved a better encounter with her than this. Her eyes widened before making a noise of disgust at what Elijah just said about Klaus. “You have got to be kidding me?” The question was rhetorical cause she knew Elijah was very serious. “He’s a pompous ass, and I won’t even apologize for saying that. Should I get a chart with to put his name and all of you, giving you all gold stars like children when you don’t kill someone? Then clap like you did the impossible and go good job on not killing this week!” Her tone dripping with sarcasm at the idea but also a mix of anger for the fact that Klaus had not only acted that way, but also really felt his siblings should have been proud of him for that. “And I did not mean any of you were wanting that for the record, just that’s how it sounds from him. Then again, he’d probably not want to share any of those gold stars with his ego.” Oh, she felt a whole lot better on getting off her chest everything she was feeling about Klaus. Jenna tried to see the good in everyone and knew even horrible people had reasons for their choices. However, her feelings towards Klaus were complicated and not in a good way. She would give the siblings all chances, but she was pretty sure she would never move past her dislike towards Klaus. “Okay, good because this is your only chance,” she warned him, making sure he knew she was serious about no more lies.
She laughed at the comment about his hair. “It wasn’t a horrible look. You looked fine and I know the ladies in town found you to be very attractive, but comparing the two,” she waved her hand in his direction, “this is much better. Probably have been beating the ladies off with a stick in this look.” Jenna’s attention had been on Ric that she never had a romantic interest in Elijah. Her interest was more on an educational level, learning much about history from him and then the friendship she had started to form with him. But oh, the town loved to talk, and she knew quite a few ladies had found him to be hot. Hearing what happened to Elena and the cause of her becoming a vampire took the enjoyment she had been having and smashed it into the ground. Instead, she was hating herself for not being there for her niece. Part of her wanted to ask what doctor, but what even was the point? “At least, I won’t have to go try and kill a certain vampire,” Jenna would do whatever to protect her family. While she wouldn’t actually kill Damon, the idea would have crossed her mind had he been the cause, knowing how Elena had felt when he had taken that choice away.
“I should have been there,” she said, hating that she wasn’t there for her niece when she probably needed her. The thought never crossed her mind to someone being behind it, figuring it had been an unfortunate accident. She listened to his voice, trying to catch her breath as she felt the weight of everything piling up. It had been her job to protect Jeremy and Elena, failing because of Klaus because she had been stupid in leaving the house. Feeling herself calming down, she still kept her hand where it had been on her, listening to him. “Pause,” she said, her brain trying to wrap around what had left his mouth. “Caroline and Stefan? Married? So, at some point him and Elena end things?” Oh god, her niece was going to follow her pattern of guys, wasn’t she? Hopefully, Damon treated her better than the men she had dated that were like him, trusting Elena to do what was right for her. Jenna also knew if anyone had told her who to date and not date…that it wouldn’t have ended well. “And a daughter? How and with who? Stefan?” Her brain felt like it was imploding and that she was getting even more lost in the information if that was even possible. Hearing how she would have gotten along well with this Josh fellow had her sad that she missed him. “I’ll have to check on Bonnie, and maybe this Josh person will return.” She stated, taking a deep breath before her eyes focused fully on him. “We’ve turned this onto you informing me about everything I’ve missed and you trying to calm me down. How have you been?” Elijah raised an eyebrow. “I guess we’ll never know.” He knew she teased him, obviously and didn’t say his words unkindly. But he did grin slightly to show he didn’t mean his words. Jenna was always kind and he liked her. Besides, she always struck him as smarter and tougher than people realized. “Few deserve it.” His parents, obviously, remained a clear exception. Sometimes he greatly regretted stopping Rebekah from murdering their father. The Original thought everyone dealt with grief and trauma differently. Look at himself and his siblings.
“Jenna. Have you ever known me to kid?” He gestured his hands in a well gesture. “You don’t need to convince me of my brother.” Elijah found that a lack of Niklaus meant fewer headaches for himself, Rebekah, and Kol. Obviously he wanted his niece to have more time with her parents, and Elijah missed Niklaus at times, but the place just felt a little safer. This time Elijah held up his hands. “I don’t disagree with you.” A sigh exited his mouth. “A version of him was here before my time, but he did kill a few people. If you ever want to bond with someone who dislikes my brother, might I suggest Lydia?” He could have mentioned Alyssa, but given how much of a social butterfly his adopted sister could be, Elijah had no doubt that the pair would eventually meet. He had to chuckle at the sharing comment. “We know my brother doesn’t share.” Oh, he knew she was serious about the lying.
“I’m afraid my love life is very lacklustre. The woman I love showed up briefly, but got sent back home, sadly. Rebekah is lucky because she has her love from home. Alyssa because she found love here and he hasn’t been sent home. But Kol’s partner got sent home around Hallowe’en. I don’t know if I want the heartbreak I witnessed with him.” Losing Allison reminded Elijah of how Kol hadn’t gotten over Davina’s death.
“Damon and I aren’t friends, but…he wants nothing but the best for Elena from what I can tell. But no, her choice wasn’t taken away.” Elijah also didn’t want to see Jenna hurt because she tried to take on the rather hotheaded Salvatore brother.
He didn’t know how to help in this instance, because she hadn’t been there. Niklaus made sure of it. “Stefan and Elena drifted when she became a vampire and she fell in love with Damon. I don’t know all of the details, but I do know Damon would burn down the world for Elena.
“Ric meets a nice doctor in the future. They get pregnant and married…except she’s murdered at the wedding and a spell makes Caroline the surrogate.” Elijah heard that Ric and Care got engaged at one point which raised an eyebrow, but that ended. “I’m okay. Really. I have my family, my job. Why don’t we go get you a tea while you get a hold of Elena? We can talk for a bit?” Honestly, he wanted to be there while she processed all of the information she’d just received.
Jenna gave him a small smile at his comment about deserving it. “I appreciate you thinking I deserved better,” and that did mean something to her even if she stood by the fact many people deserved better. Maybe some even more than her, but sadly, life did not work that way. She was going to end up dead missing out on so much both in her own life and the lives of her family. At least, she had the ability to have a life here from the sounds of it, and she was going to embrace that as much as she could.
“No, but maybe Elijah Smith didn’t know how to kid. While the real Elijah does. Or that the new hairstyle brought out a new kidding side,” she knew that was far from truth and that he wasn’t much for kidding. Though she was hoping this once because god, that only made her dislike his brother even more, if that was even possible. “Of course he did,” she said with a sigh. Jenna gave people the benefit of the doubt and always tried to give people a chance, even multiple, but Klaus was one of the few she just couldn’t do it. Thankfully, he wasn’t here from the sounds of it because she didn’t know what she’d do if he was. “I might have to reach out to this person,” she said, surprised that there weren’t more people who fit that bill, but then again maybe Elijah didn’t know them all. Very few people got under her skin in a negative way, but Klaus did even before learning about her death. The way he had taken over her boyfriend’s body, then how he acted while trying to pretend to be Ric or wanting her niece. Oh, she had plenty of reasons for disliking the man. A smile appeared on hearing him mention a woman he was in love with before turning to a frown at hearing she was sent home. “I’m sorry the woman you love was sent home. What’s her name?” She was glad to hear someone had captured his heart since no matter what, she had seen Elijah as a good man and still did even now. He deserved to be happy, and she was sad to hear that this place had sent her back. “While I don’t know any of these other people, I’m happy for Rebekah and Alyssa. I’m sorry to hear about Kol. Heartbreak sucks in normal circumstances but I’m sure it’s a lot worse in this situation.” Jenna knew all about heartbreak under the normal circumstances and it sucked so she could only imagine how much it hurt when the dome was involved.
She listened, but no matter what she saw many of her exes personality on Damon and knew the pain that could come from that. However, she also knew from her own experience that telling someone not to do something was never the answer. Only made them want it more as she knew all too well from her own history. She trusted Elena, and would let her make the choices she wanted, supporting them since she knew her niece was smart. “I’m glad to hear her choice wasn’t taken away.” Even though she knew she stood no chance against vampires, Jenna would most likely think about attempting it if she was protecting Elena or Jeremy.
Jenna listened, and she could appreciate the fact of what he was saying about Damon even if she wasn’t a big fan of his. Though, she would give him another chance to see if he could change her opinion, especially considering what it seemed was coming. “I’m glad she has that,” her niece deserved a guy like that in her life and gave some points in Damon’s favor. That, and the fact this was Elijah telling her since she trusted him.
Her eyes focused on Elijah, listening to him as he talked about Ric. A mixed feeling of emotions behind what she was hearing. “I’m glad he met someone though sorry for how it ended. I’m happy to hear Caroline took on being the surrogate and the kids were able to come to be.” Jenna was very happy for him, but she was sad. Not because Ric moved on since she expected that with her being dead. She would want him to move on as he had his whole life. No, she was sad because that was all stuff she would never get back home. No engagement, wedding, no dream job, or even kids if she ever decided. While she knew this place she could have that, but she could also get it all ripped away from the sounds of it. Not feeling up for a crying breakdown or any other emotional breakdown, she focused on what he said, nodding. “I like the sound of that. You can tell me about your job and your family. Since I think we focused enough on me and now it’s your turn,” she told him. That, and because she didn’t want to think about everything she lost out on back home. Jenna just had to make the most of her time here, especially now with knowing her fate waiting for her back home.
