Who: Charlie Morningstar and Rory Morbingstar What: Charlie appears in Madison When: Sunday Evening Where: Electric Lady Night Club Rating: low
Rory liked working during live band nights, most of the time. For instance tonight they had an Indie folk band complete with a piano and the half-angel bopped along to the music while she helped customers. Dan happened to have stopped by and she passed him his usual beer and a new cocktail to try. She hadn’t experimented in a while, but with some new bitters and mixes, Rory figured why not.
She’d just bent down to put some clean glassware away, and grab some ice for a drink, when a girl who hadn’t been there seconds ago appeared right in front of her. Rory jumped and knocked her arm into the bar.
“Ow.” The girl was blonde with…some very interesting blush work happening. “Um hi?”
“Oh gosh! Are you okay?!” The blonde, while being completely confused about where she was at the moment, was definitely more concerned that her sudden appearance seemed to have caused someone else harm. She leaned over a little. “I am so sorry. If I knew I’d be suddenly transported somewhere, I’d have totally warned you, I swear.”
She peered at the woman with big eyes of genuine concern like Rory had lost an arm rather than just banged it.
Rory nodded. “Yeah I’m okay. And you’re definitely new. Like brand new. Welcome to Madison.” She definitely would remember this girl previously. “I’m Rory.”
A patron asked for a couple tequila shots and a rum and Coke, so Rory started getting the drinks together. “I promise I am good.” Rory offered her a smile.
“Thank you!” Charlie smiled brightly like she absolutely had a clue about where they were. But she did not. “Where’s Madison?”
She looked around for a moment. It was obviously a bar, but a really nice one. No one seemed dead or being murdered which was odd. In fact, everyone looked - Charlie sucked in a long, deep breath of a gasp. Then she turned back to Rory. “Am I on Earth?!”
Oh fuck her. Rory inwardly face palmed. “Um yeah, definitely Earth. Where do you usually call home?” The half-angel rolled her eyes at a regular and passed them a bottle of beer.
“Madison is in the United States. Earth.” The young woman could be from another planet for all she knows. “Madison is… a bit different though. We have superheroes, angels, vampires, werewolves, etc. people and creatures from various worlds end up here. Like I have a half-sister from another world. Technically we share a father, but different versions.
“Me?” Charlie was taking in the people - the actual people before they came to her - and she felt vindicated that you could look at people and have no idea if they were going to Heaven or Hell from the way they looked. She definitely had a bet to win when she got home.
“I’m from Hell. The ring of Pride, to be exact. I run a hotel there? B-ut you probably haven’t heard of it since you’re up here and I’m usually down there.”
Rory tried not to stare at the blonde who seemed to be taking in the people around her. Newcomers generally arrived with some level of curiosity. “Do you have a name?” Rory asked, partly amused.
“The ring of Pride? And Hell has hotels? I think your version of Hell and mine differ a whole lot. My dad is Lucifer,” she added. “He got sent home a few months ago, though. And why…does Hell have a hotel?” Rory had so many questions, though she stopped as a Welcoming Committee person arrived.
“Oh! I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be so rude. I’m Charlie.” She held out her hand for a shake, which was also the polite thing to do. Not that the hand stayed long since Rory mentioned she was a child of Lucifer and her hand shot up to her face - both her hands - to her cheeks in a surprised inhale. “You’re dad’s Lucifer too?!” Then the concept sunk in and Charlie suddenly looked confused. “Wait, how can you be my sister? Dad never told me he had another kid.” And that stung a little. Sure, her dad and her weren’t close for a few years, but she’d like to think the birth of a sibling might be mentioned to her. Not to mention her mom wasn’t in the picture either.
She was stunned through the whole Welcome Committee spiel, though he managed to ‘uh huh’ and ‘yes’ through it and when they left, the new items she had were put on the countertop. Her mind had been reeling throughout and she landed on the only question she kept coming back to - “Does that mean you know where mom is?” Charlie, of course, assumed Rory had the same parents as she did.
“Nice to meet you Charlie.” She’d gone out to shake the young woman’s hand and suddenly found empty space. How many fucking half-siblings did she have? Seriously? “I don’t think we have the same version of Dad. We’ve now had five, including you, who call some version of Lucifer Dad. The only other one here right now is my half-sister, Hope.” And as far as Rory was concerned, Hope was a sister. “Oddly enough only one of us has been a son.”
“Well I’m assuming my mom, human Chloe Decker, is …at her home in newly wedded bliss?” Look at Rory keeping the dislike from her voice. She sounded neutral. “Who is your mom?”
Charlie blinked, confused. It took her a few seconds to wrap her head around the idea of different versions of Lucifer - or anyone really. Half-sister Hope - did that mean she had another half-sister too? Charlie never thought she’d have siblings. This was all very exciting if not also confusing at the same time.
“My mom’s Lilith.” Who was technically human, or had been anyway. “Oh! And the hotel is my idea.” She was circling around the Rory’s previous question now. “Hell’s kind of over-populated and I thought why not try to rehabilitate the souls down here that want to maybe get into Heaven, you know? It’s… still a work in progress.”
Rory knew of Lilith in the tangential sense: as her Auntie Maze’s mother. “Fascinating. You’re both my half-sister and my Auntie Maze’s. Though Auntie Maze got sent home, so she’s not currently here. Her mother is Lilith.”
Her eyes raised at the mention of a hotel. “Your Hell has a hotel? And it’s used for rehabilitation?” Rory poured herself a rum and Coke. She did have a drink or two on the job and really, this felt like a rum and Coke conversation. “I have so many questions?”
Charlie looked fascinated. She never thought she’d have a sister, let alone two. Not to mention from her mother. This was very exciting. She wished Vaggie was here to tell her. She’d of course go looking, but she wondered if this was a sort of solo journey for some reason. Maybe she was meant to learn or do something here for personal growth.
“I know it’s not the conventional sort of thing, but I really think it’d be good for everyone. Sure, not everyone is going to want to change, but if someone does? Why can’t they, you know?” At least, this was how Charlie felt.
“I can stay for a bit and tell you all about it, if you like?” She didn’t have anywhere to go and she liked talking about the hotel and her plans for Hell.
“Trust me, it’s not even the strangest thing from this month.” Rory shrugged, but added a smirk. “I like the idea of personal growth. I think you and my girlfriend will get along, but don’t take it personally if our brother-in-law growls at you.” Rory and Karl got along for the sake of Hope and Nita.
“As long as you’re okay with minor interruptions.” Charlie seemed nice and Rory did want to hear more about this hotel and get to know yet another half-sister. But work kind of came first. At least if Rory wanted tips. “But I would like to hear more.” She’d give Hope and Penny heads ups later.
