Who: Annie & Damon What: Random meeting When: Early Thursday morning after Damon's shift [Backdated to before Elena showed up!] Where: Streets of MV. Rating: Low
Annie had double checked on Eve to make sure the little one was asleep. A smile came over before Annie walked out of the room to let the baby sleep. After checking to make sure Aziraphale was fine keeping an ear open, Annie decided to go for a little walk to enjoy the quiet evening. If Aziraphale needed her or something came up, he could text her to come home and she’d quickly pop back, but she figured it was late enough that she could do with some exploring of the town. Wasn’t like she slept so she had plenty of time with a need to do something when Eve was asleep. Eventually, when Eve started school, she’d have to find something else to keep herself busy. The air seemed cold from the way people were buddled up; however, she was quite content in her outfit. Not feeling any different was one of the joys or downfalls of being a ghost depending on when Annie was asked. She stopped for a moment to watch two lovebirds who couldn’t even see her as they talked about whether to go back to his place or her. Annie watched for a few more minutes before moving on, walking along the different shops that were mostly closed. “Good evening,” she said as she walked by someone else, figuring it’d be another person who couldn’t see her, planning to keep on walking. Annie was just being Annie even when she knew they wouldn’t most likely hear or see her. Damon finished the last of his shift. He didn’t have a busy night and just wanted to go home, pour some bourbon, and pull out a book. The vampire finished helping close before he stepped out into the early morning air, heading to the apartment he kind of hated. At some point, he’d very much want a house, but right now, he just wanted to not be around people. Hearing someone say Good evening raised an eyebrow since they’d bypassed evening a few hours previously. “Morning,” Damon responded, not thinking at all about someone speaking to him. Annie figured with it most likely being another person who couldn’t see her that it didn’t matter what she had said. Not that she’d ever say anything rude unless the person was being clearly rude, which the stranger had not been. It was times like this she missed home, but at the same time, she knew what was waiting back home, and for Eve this place was much better. No vampires trying to hurt her or anything like that. Eve would get to grow up and be a normal kid without the fate of a species resting on her.
When the stranger spoke and replied in a sense to what Annie had said, her head whipped around and a look of excitement was clear on her face. “Wait, you can see and hear me?!?!” The excitement was obvious in her voice. She knew there were people around here who could see her, but it wasn’t like they wore signs to advertise it so often on her walks she never encountered anyone, or at least none that she could tell. Annie was always happy to interact with people, it was one of the downsides to being a ghost since she was a social person, so running into someone who could see and hear her just made her adventure out all the better. Damon had no idea that he shouldn’t see or hear the person walking. Though he did look a bit confused by the excitement on the young woman’s face. “Yes? Was I not supposed to see and hear you?” The vampire rubbed a hand over his face. This place could give the vampire a symbolic headache. “What brings you out at,” Damon checked the time on his phone, “3:09am?” He really didn’t feel up to an enthusiastic woman, but whatever. Not like he had anything else to do. Annie enjoyed interacting with people. Before her death, she had been a social person and even after until fate fixed itself, making her limited on her interactions. Still, even with only being able to interact with vampires, werewolves, zombies, and some other species, she found herself limited at times. So to come across someone who could see her was exciting cause it meant more interactions. “Most people can’t see me unless they fall under the supernatural category,” she told him. Noticing someone walking and looking at the stranger weirdly told her exactly what she needed to go. “Hello, I love your outfit!” She commented to the person who didn’t even blink or look in her direction. “See! I’m a ghost, and I’m guessing,” she looked at him for a moment before taking a guess, “vampire?” He looked like most of the vampires she met with the tall, dark, and brooding type thing going on. None of the werewolves, she knew had that and were rather the opposite, but then again he could be something else. Oh well, she was sticking with vampire since he gave off energy from the ones she knew. “My goddaughter is asleep, the people I am staying with are keeping an ear out, and I thought I’d enjoy a walk to explore and do some late night/ early morning people watching.” Or at least until she either got a text about Eve or she felt it was due for Eve to be stirring then she’d pop back without any problems. “What about you?” Damon was not known for being overly social these days. He liked time with his brother, the few friends he had, and Elena. Socializing he generally left to Elena and Bonnie. Socializing within his circle, though? Obviously. Who knew what would happen with this very enthusiastic ghost. He nodded at the guess. “Yup. Vampire. And you’re a ghost…all of the time?” While Damon hadn’t met Eve, he’d heard Nick mention her a few times and picked up on her only being a ghost six months of the year. Ah, yes, so not everyone could see and hear her. “How old is your goddaughter?” See, Bonnie, Damon could be polite on occasion. At the question, Damon smirked. “Work. I’m a bouncer at one of the bars, so I’m on my way home.” A person walked by staring at him. “And now I look like I’m talking to myself.” He pulled out his cell phone. “Can your goddaughter see you?” Annie bounced slightly in place when hearing she had guessed correctly. It seemed like most the vampires she knew and met seemed to give off the same energy; however, she was sure that wasn’t always the case. Though this time, it worked in her favor when it came to her guess. “Yes, all the time. While the rules have changed a few times for me, the whole being a ghost is all the same,” she rambled for a moment. She knew some people found her to be a lot, but it was just who she was. Most people loved her for her upbeat personality even after what happened or they learned to deal with it like Hal, knowing her heart was in the right place and that she was always there to help and watch out for her group. “She’s coming up on a year old in a few months,” Annie was always happy to talk about Eve. That little girl was her whole world, which wasn’t that hard since it wasn’t like she had much going on being dead. But with her parents both gone it had been up to her and Tom, then Hal to make sure the little one was safe something she took very seriously. “Ooo which of the bars? Not that I’ve gone to any of them, but I have walked by some of them. That must be a fun job! Do you live in the apartments?” Annie was a curious person and didn’t think twice about asking questions. Annie gave a small apologetic look to him, “Yeah, comes with the territory when interacting with ghosts. But that works.” She said at him pulling out his phone and pretending to talk on it. Nodding at his question, “Yes, she’s the daughter to two werewolves so that may have something to do with it or her age.” Annie prayed it was not to do with her age. The idea of Eve growing up and not knowing or seeing her broke her heart, but based on that vision or whatever that had been, Annie held on to hope Eve would see her even when older. Damon didn’t really care what sort of energy he gave off at this point in his life. Besides, he wasn’t broody like a certain baby brother of his. Though dark? Yes, definitely dark. But so was that Kaz person he’d seen around town and he was definitely human. A nod at her confirmation. “How inconvenient that must be at times,” he commented. So far she reminded him of Caroline, which could be bad or good depending on the hour…or hell even the moment. “A year old. I hear it’s a fun year.” Or something, as a vampire who didn’t particularly care about kids, especially given he couldn’t have any as far as he knew. “Verdant.” Fun? Not really, but Damon could at least kill time throwing out people from the bar who annoyed him. A nod at the apartment question. He wanted to get a house, but Damon decided he should work a bit longer before he picked one out. Besides, he kept hoping Bonnie would show up or Elena and they could pick out a house to share together. The idea of living by himself bothered the vampire. So all supernaturals could see her. Someone would find this fascinating, but Damon found it difficult to care much. “Are her parents here?” Thankfully most people weren’t out at 3am, so he could put back his phone for the time being. Annie nodded, but also after years in this situation, she had learned to deal with it. Having people living in her place who could see her made it easier and that she was able to interact with some people made it a little more manageable, but it still sucked when she missed people. “Can be, but just makes times like this more enjoyable when I find someone who can see me!” Something she hoped would happen more around here, the longer she was here. One could hope, and Annie was always good at doing that. She always tried to be positive even when everything was trying to push her the other way.
“Depends on your definition of fun and maybe the fun for who part of the question,” she said with a small laugh. Annie wouldn’t trade it for the world and she loved Eve, but all the people coming to kill the baby was exhausting. Definitely could have done without that! Another reason she was loving this stop for Eve because no vampires knew about her, allowing her to relax to a certain degree.
“Maybe I’ll stop by and visit at some point! Say hello considering you can see me.” Annie was friendly and with that, she was horrible at sometimes knowing the right and wrong people to interact with. How many times had she found herself socializing with a not so good supernatural? Unless they made it obvious, Annie did not always catch on, but at the same time it had worked in her favor with some of the interesting connections she had made over her years as a ghost. Though a club would be a fun place to people watch during her nights of boredom, but that was an idea for another time. “Am I keeping you from needing sleep? Are you the type that needs to make sure you’re in before the sun?” Annie asked, realizing she may have been keeping him or putting him in danger. She forgot for a moment that vampires here were different from hers and one another, which was something she’d have to remember.
His question on Eve’s parents brought a shake of her head no. “No, they weren’t back home and they aren’t here. Though I know they could show up here and get the chance to see their daughter grow up.” That would be amazing for Eve and for Annie to see her friends again, missing them both. Still, as her godmother, she planned to make sure Eve knew about her parents, the werewolf life, and other supernatural species. Damon wondered if the ghost had a perpetual line to caffeine. Or maybe E. If Caroline showed back up in this place, he wondered who would out enthusiastic the other. He definitely found himself missing blondie at this point. “Man, if Caroline ever returns, I’ll be sure to introduce the two of you.” They would either get along really well or murder each other, a rather difficult feat since both were technically dead. “Exploring the world or some such shit.” Whatever the hell babies did. Again, he didn’t actually care. He nodded. “Sure. I’m usually easy to find.” At least when he was at work. Damon didn’t need her showing up at his apartment or something. Though he didn’t completely hate the ghost, Damon liked his privacy and he felt his social batteries already drained. The vampire did not consider himself good by any standards, but he didn’t have any set plans to hurt anyone in a place he couldn’t fucking leave. “I can be in the sun.” Thanks to a daylight ring. “So at least I won’t burn.” Or fucking sparkle. But he did want to get home. “Sorry she doesn’t have them.” Maybe they would show up. “But I do think I’m going to go get home and eat.” Blood bags called to him at this point. “I’ll see you around.” The thought of meeting new people definitely peeked her interest, and she was assuming that this Caroline would be able to see her since he was bringing it up. “If she ever does, I’d be happy to meet her!” Annie said with a small clap of her hands, excited at the idea. Had been one of the reasons she signed up for speed dating since she doubt with her situation that she’d meet anyone, but maybe have the chance to interact with people. If she even got to have one full conversation, then she would consider it a win in her eyes. “That’s not quite yet for her. More like attracting trouble in her case,” she said with a sigh. Some might think she was joking, but oh, she was definitely not. It was why her, Tom, and Hal made sure to be ready for anything with the trouble that kept showing up for Eve.
“Then I’ll definitely have to stop by and say hello,” Annie figured she had more than enough time and plenty of it so the chances were likely that she would. However, in all her personality, she did have her boundaries and would never show up at his apartment without permission. No, the only time she threw boundaries out the window was with the people she was living with and only with important issues. “Okay, good, I know the vampires from my world can be, so I’m glad to hear the same is for you.” Feeling bad for the ones that were stuck insider during the day, hearing there were a few like that. Also made her curious on the other differences and similarities between him and the vampires she knew; however, she figured that was something to address at another time.
Annie didn’t need to be too much in one go, especially since she herself knew she could be a lot. Told it enough over the years, she knew that so she was toning it down a bit as far as she was concern. She only nodded on his comment about Eve’s parents, not wanting to indulge too much into that. She did have some information that she wasn’t about to blurt out as hard as that might be to people. “Oh yes, thank you for hanging around as long as you did! I’ll be sure to come see you at your job and enjoy your meal,” she said, hoping it wasn’t from a person. But not wanting to know the answer, she gave him a wave before continuing her walk and allowing him to continue on home.
