Who: Bex and Marcel What: chatting after a doctor appointment When: Jan. 31st Where: the clinic to start Rating: medium
Marcel hadn’t known what to expect with the doctor’s appointment. Okay, yes, he had a bit of an idea, but he’d been more focused on things like what Rebekah needed and cleaning the house than what happened at prenatal appointments. He thought they might find out the sex, but he hadn’t been sure.
Holding Rebekah’s hand, he’d listened closely and then nearly passed out when they heard the words boy and girl. The vampire blinked. Multiple times. When the ultrasound technician said she’d give the couple a couple minutes of privacy, Marcel looked at Rebekah and burst out laughing.
“So when we get pregnant, we don’t do it in half-measure, huh?”
Rebekah also hadn’t known what to expect from their impending doctor’s appointment. Every appointment seemed to come with its own surprises and Rebekah assumed this one would as well. Yes, the thought that they may find out the sex did cross the vampire’s mind, but, in order to keep herself from being nervous, she engrossed herself in work.
The appointment arrived and, seated, Marcel’s hand in hers, the ultrasound technician actually revealed the gender. It was a boy and a girl. It was twins. Rebekah looked shocked. As if sensing the two needed a moment, the woman left the room and the blond turned to Marcel just as he looked over at her.
Their gazes met and Marcel burst out laughing. Rebekah’s shocked expression gave way to one of mild amusement. She managed a smile. “We clearly bloody don’t, love.” she replied. Surprised? Yes. Excited? Definitely. Scared? Very. Caroline had twins and she’d heard of how tumultuous her pregnancy was. How rough the birth had been.
Marcel hadn’t known Caroline very well, even here, but obviously knew of her. Sure, he knew she’d had twins, but Marcel didn’t quite know how difficult a time she’d had. This meant that Marcel didn’t know that Bex’s brain started thinking about her friend’s rough birth.
He leaned down and kissed the blonde vampire lightly. “How are you feeling? Physically. Mentally. Emotionally…” his voice trailed off as he realized he started babbling towards Rebekah. Marcel couldn’t help but place a hand over Rebekah’s abdomen and leaned down to press a gentle kiss there as well.
“Well, good news, we figured this out before we did too much shopping and decorating.”
Rebekah only knew so much. Caroline had been sent home before Rebekah had a chance to ask her any in-depth questions about her pregnancy and giving birth to the twins. She could ask Hope if she knew more; her niece went to school with Lizzie and Josie. Perhaps she had more insight into Caroline’s pregnancy with her girls. Then again, she didn’t want to worry Hope. The poor girl was still reeling from losing her mother again.
Marcel’s lips on hers pulled Rebekah from her tumultuous thoughts and the blond returned it, taking whatever comfort she could from the kiss. Marcel didn’t know Caroline well and probably knew little about her pregnancy. Rebekah knew she should talk to him about it, especially when Marcel asked how she was feeling, but a doctor’s office was not the place to have that kind of conversation. Not when the news they received should prompt more excitement than fear. She would tell him later, at home.
Rebekah gave him a reassuring smile. “I’m doing alright. I was not expecting to hear we’re having twins, but I’m excited, nervous, but excited. I promise, love.” The smile only grew, the gesture reaching her eyes when he pressed a tender kiss to her abdomen. Marcel was going to be a good father. She’d always known that.
His words prompted a laugh from the blond vampire. “It’s a relief really. Not that I ever mind a shopping trip, but I wouldn’t want to have to return and rebuy again.” Returning and exchanging were the more annoying aspects of shopping in Rebekah’s opinion.
“Hey, you and I? This will be our greatest adventure, but we’ll get through it together.” They could talk about it more after they were not in a waiting room when the technician might return at any moment. He squeezed Rebekah’s hand. If they needed to speak to Hope, they would, but Marcel assumed Rebekah wanted to try other avenues first. Maybe Damon would have an idea, though he didn’t seem particularly excited to speak to any of the Mikaelsons.
“That would be quite the pain and at least now we know we should purchase a double stroller.” One highly rated for safety and that looked good, obviously.
The technician returned with ultrasound pictures and told Rebekah she could get dressed with an appointment for a follow up.
Marcel helped Rebekah stand up before he gave her privacy. Yes, they’d been getting naked together for…a while, but Marcel knew it would be policy and couldn’t imagine Bex wanted him to watch her get out of a hospital gown.
Another smile graced her lips and Rebekah nodded. “As we have everything, love.” He squeezed her hand and Rebekah lifted it to her lips, pressing a tender kiss to the knuckles. No, Rebekah did not relish the thought of talking to Damon. Sure, out of all the Mikaelson siblings that remained in Madison Valley, he was more likely to talk to her than to anyone else, but she knew he still didn’t trust her. For that, Rebekah couldn’t blame him; her family and herself had caused Damon, caused everyone he cared about in Mystic Falls, plenty of problems and pain.
Also, perhaps more obvious than anything, was that Damon was male. She highly doubted he would enjoy recounting Caroline’s pregnancy, particularly her delivery of the twins, in any sort of detail. Still, perhaps it was worth seeking him out anyway. The worst thing the other vampire could do was refuse to speak to her and, again, Rebekah didn’t begrudge him that choice considering their tumultuous past. However, for the moment, she pushed the thought aside; she would speak to Marcel in depth on the subject once they were home.
At his suggestion that they could buy a double stroller, Rebekah looked pleased. “We can. One that is highly rated of course.” Because while Rebekah and Marcel were immortal, she wasn’t entirely sure if their babies would inherit such protection. Lizzie and Josie hadn’t inherited it from Caroline. Of course, the babies were not conceived in Caroline’s womb. They were merely placed there before Alaric’s wife, Jo, was killed. Obviously, Rebekah’s twins were conceived in her womb so it was entirely possible they could inherit some of Marcel and Rebekah’s abilities. It was also possible they would be witches.
After all, though she never tapped into her powers, Rebekah was a witch before her parents’ turned herself and her siblings. Then again, they could be born little more than human. It was all still a mystery at this point; the best thing Rebekah and Marcel could do was to move forward as if the twins were going to be ‘normal,’ mortal, and nothing more.
The ultrasound technician returned, presenting the pair with pictures, and finally giving Rebekah permission to dress. Rebekah allowed Marcel to help her stand, giving his hand a final squeeze, before he left her to change. The vampire was grateful to strip off the papery hospital gown and tug on her clothes. After a quick glance at her compact to ensure her makeup and hair were decent, Rebekah shouldered her purse and slipped from the room. Spotting Marcel, she slipped her arm through his and the two headed for the desk to schedule the next appointment.
The two had weathered many things together at this point. While they did not always find themselves on the same side (Always and forever could interfere after all), they continued to love and support each other. Would always love and support each other. Marcel knew nobody else, vampire or not, could make him feel the way Rebekah Mikaelson did and he never wanted to be with anyone else. He’d tried it a couple times and it never lasted.
Sadly, that would probably be the biggest interference: Damon wasn’t female. He probably wouldn’t have paid that much attention to Caroline’s pregnancy, regardless of their relationship.
“Of course. I’m pretty sure if we get anything less than highly rated, your sister will give us serious side eye,” the vampire joked, mostly. Marcel feared few people, but he held a healthy dose of respect for Alyssa and her powers, and she could be a force if she thought something wasn’t done well. Not unlike Rebekah.
What would their babies be? Marcel didn’t know. Couldn’t even be sure if they’d be the same species. He and Rebekah were human when they conceived, but Marcel was born human, turned, and then became an enhanced Original, while Bex had been born a witch. Though, from Marcel’s understanding, the only one who showed aptitude, besides Freya, was Kol.
After receiving a date for their next appointment, Marcel wrapped an arm around his fiancée. “Should we go for an early dinner, love? Or would you rather go home and order in some food? Either way, I promise a foot rub at the end of it.”
Perhaps it was foolish, but Rebekah hoped that their stay in Madison Valley would change the rules of ‘Always and Forever’ to include Marcel. Hell, when Irina was present, she’d hoped it would include her too.
Of course, Kol’s place in the timeline complicated things; he didn’t know all Marcel had done for them. As for Irina, she had never been able to move past Kol snapping her neck during his first, brief stay in Madison Valley. Still, since losing Allison, Kol had changed too. He was more sullen, quiet, and less like the egotistical bastard she’d come to know over the years. While he still regarded Marcel with some wariness, he didn’t act like a complete asshole. It was progress and probably why Rebekah still believed that ‘Always and Forever’ could cease to be so…inclusive. When it came to the Mikaelsons, even a little bit of progress was better than none at all. It was a start.
Rebekah was unsure of Damon’s exact place in the timeline as well. It could be that he was from before Caroline’s pregnancy and knew nothing of those details. If anything, Caroline would have glossed over most of the ‘gory and explicit’ details if she did chat with Damon before being sent home. In the end, Hope and Josie would still be Rebekah’s best source of information on the subject.
The blond laughed. “I’m pretty sure all of my siblings would side eye us if we bought anything that was less than highly rated,” Rebekah replied. After all, all her siblings were well aware of her expensive tastes and desire to be a mother. If they didn’t know that she would go to the ends of the Earth to ensure any children she managed to have were safe, then they truly didn’t know her. Or Marcel.
Given they knew nothing of the mortal status of the babies, it was probably best to be prepared for anything and everything. Hope was born a witch and, while they were both human when these children were conceived, Rebekah believed that at least one of the children would be born a witch. It was entirely possible they could both be born hybrids too (witch-vampire), but again, it was only another theory. As of right now, the only witches that could also be vampires were siphoner witches, like Josie and Lizzie.
Once their next appointment was scheduled, Rebekah quickly entered the date into her phone and the two exited the office. Marcel slipped an arm around her waist and the blond leaned into the touch, suddenly exhausted. She looked up at him, blue eyes tired as they met his own, and offered a small smile. “Let’s just order in. I suddenly feel rather tired.” And hungry. Rebekah had been sure to feed before coming here, but she found hunger already gnawing in her stomach again.
“And as long as I get that foot rub,” she added and, despite her exhaustion, playfully nudged him. “I’m content no matter what we do, love.”
Marcel knew that Always and Forever only applied to him in certain situations. Which amounted to when it didn’t cost a Mikaelson anything, even with Klaus who rescued and raised him. In some ways, he envied how easily Alyssa melded in with the Mikalesons and hadn’t seemed to care one way or the other if Klaus accepted her. Being raised amongst them left Marcel with very complicated feelings, but at least Rebekah included him and Elijah seemed to be making an effort. Kol? Well he’d lost a woman he loved and hadn’t lived long enough to know all of the history Rebekah, Elijah, and Marcel did, but he hadn’t attempted to kill him, so Marcel would take it. Maybe Kol would eventually be happy again one day. Irina was difficult on a good day and Marcel had liked her.
“They might accuse us of body snatchers…which in this town might not be entirely impossible.” The pair of them would want the absolute best for their two children. Given they had no way of knowing whether or not their children would be witches, vampires, hybrids, or humans, the pair of parents would tread carefully.
“Then let’s get you home. What food do you feel like?” Marcel knew that his fiancée would need more blood, but thankfully he’d ensured he restocked their blood supply. And her assistant. “I will definitely give you that foot rub. And a back rub.”
Rebekah knew change for all parties would not be easy. Old habits die hard and the past, their past, was hardly one easily put behind them. Yet, with the arrival of their children on the horizon, the vampire hoped that they could all make an effort to be better than before. That included both Mikaelsons and Marcel alike.
The blonde chuckled, but didn’t say anything else. Seeing as they both knew they weren’t going to purchase anything less than the best for the babies in her womb, she doubted the theory of bodysnatchers would be on the table. At least where purchasing baby items was concerned anyway. Hopefully the Dome would keep its paws off them for the time being.
Rebekah offered a small shrug. “I’m fine with whatever, darling.” She squeezed his arm gently. “I’m more looking forward to the foot rub and now bonus massage anyway.” And a blood bag. Maybe more than one. [wrap]
