Who:Conner and Jordan What:hang out When:backdated before christmas Where:walking town then game shop Warning/status:none, complete
Conner was now a bit worried about this Lacrosse idea. He didn’t really know how to pull his abilities very well. He’d done it once or twice under pressure to not kill his friends, but beyond that? He wasn’t sure how to do it on purpose. Instead he decided to invite Jordan out to do something. He knew Laura pretty well now, but Jordan was newer to him. He wanted to know him better.
“No Krypto, I don’t have anything for you right now.” He pushed the needy dog away towards the kitchen. “Go find Lois, she usually has something for you.” Lois was good at sneaking him food he shouldn’t have, but Conner didn’t stop her either. Krypto was content there and that eased his own mind. The dog gave a bit of a scoff at him for his lack of treats and turned around to trot back towards the kitchen instead. Conner rolled his eyes as he waited at the bottom of the stairs and put his hands in the pockets of his jacket.
Lacrosse wasn’t a sport that Jordan knew well. Football, however, was a different story. Both were considered full contact sports and that could be dangerous with those who had abilities. This? He knew from experience. His brother had decided to get hyped on x-kryptonite and had gone through football like that. Jon, unlike him, didn’t have natural abilities. Even with them both being kryptonian-human hybrids. So, hearing that Conner wanted to do lacrosse was something he’d try to help him with. After all, one’s abilities couldn’t be exposed too much. At least Grandpa Lane wasn’t there to run them through their paces. His father wouldn’t be overly happy about that one.
There’s a bit of a laugh out of Jordan as he comes downstairs,” Mom might have some bacon for you, Krypto.” Then he looks over at Conner giving the other a smile. “Ready to head out?”
Krypto was content in that house, and had gotten so used to just being a regular house pet. He wasn’t really needed for crime fighting, but he fit right in as that either way.
“He’s gotten so needy.” Conner made a face as the dog gave them both a look before disappearing around the corner to the kitchen to go find Lois and hopefully get a treat. “Yeah. Where to first?” There was the comic shop he hadn’t checked out yet, but he wanted to see where Jordan wanted to go. This little trip was about getting to know him more. What would he pick first?
He knew the other was probably missing his brother, so he wanted to try to fill that role a bit more.
Pets were not something they had back in Smallville. So having Krypto in the house was actually rather nice. He's also pretty sure that Jon would've loved the dog too and pampered him. Something that he was sure everyone in the house did when it came to him.
"I'm sure none of us help with that neediness," Jordan teases. Not when they all catered to what Krypto wanted, within reason. Where to first... That? It was a very good question. "Let's head off to the video game store, see if there's anything we can find." If they couldn't find anything there then they could head off toward the comic book store.
As for missing his twin brother, yes. He missed Jon quite a bit. He hadn't expected to end up with the siblings that he had when he'd shown up in Madison Valley. Though he wouldn't trade them for the world either.
Conner was glad Krypto didn’t have to fight all the time anymore if he was a little honest with himself. As annoying as he had become, the dog deserved to have an annoying house pet life after everything they’d been through. “Did you know he can fly?” Conner had yet to be able to, even with some of Clark’s help. Even the dog could fly. “He has other powers too. Some I don’t have.” Or at least some he didn’t have yet.
He nodded to that suggestion. “My friend back home had an emulator that could play everything..Didn’t matter what system it was. Maybe we can build one of those?” It was a pc thing. He was certain if he had access to a manual on how, they could put one together. He headed off with him towards that shop. All the houses along the way were lit up, which caused him to raise an eyebrow. “I remember Christmas, but never this much. Isn’t this excessive?”
"No, I didn't know he could fly." That? It was news to Jordan but he didn't know a lot about Krypto. He did, however, know that the dog was pretty strong. It made him wonder if Krypto was as strong as his dad or not. "What kind of powers does he have? That you know of anyway." That was something that he was a bit curious about.
As they head out he listens to Conner before giving a nod," We could build one but we'd have to figure out our own games." The last thing they needed to do, as it were, was download something and get in trouble for it. Emulators were legal but the roms that were pirated weren't exactly. Not that he, himself, cared too much. But they could figure something out. "Or we could just build a system that played everything." That? It would be interesting.
Every place seemed to be lit up, nice and bright," This is the first time I've been here for Christmas. Though even back in Smallville it was never this much. There weren't lights on practically everything."
Conner still had yet to manage to fly himself. He was frustrated by that. Clark said it would probably just happen on its own, but when? Conner wanted to be able to do what they could. “Hm laser eyes, heat vision, flight, super speed, super strength, all the basic stuff we can do..well minus the flight for me.” Conner made a face. “My dog flies before I can.” And rolled his eyes a bit. Krypto didn’t have the mental blockage that Conner likely had that was holding him back from flying. He wished he knew what that was though so he could. “Infrared vision. “ That was all he could remember.
When he looked at the lights it was actually kind of nice, albeit strange. “Why our own?” He didn’t have any sort of idea about copyrights or legal issues pertaining to things. “We never got in trouble for that at a home, but I’m not sure how Gar got his games.” He admitted with a shrug. He’d just woken up from a coma, Gar had games and decided he wanted to be Conner’s friend even after Dick had assigned him to Conner.
“Might be this place doing it again.” Who knew, but Conner was getting the idea that it wasn’t normal since every inch was decorated.
When he, himself, had first started flying... well, it was generous in calling it flying. He'd barely been able to even get himself off the ground. Though, he does listen as Conner explains what Krypto could do. It was interesting to hear that the dog could fly too. He's pretty sure that he's never heard of any animal that could fly, not unless it was a dragon or something.
"When I first started trying to fly dad took me toward this place, nothing but snow and ice. He told me that I needed to let go of my fear. I, quite literally, went jumping off a cliff down into a big canyon and was falling for what felt like forever. Having dad there and him believing I could do it. Telling me I could do it... it helped. So, maybe you just need to let go of your fear. It's what helped me."
"Dad doesn't need the cops or worse coming to our door for copyright infringement. That? It would land us in jail," He explains to the other. That? It was the last thing that they needed. Neither of them needed to end up in jail or juvie. He also didn't want to upset his mother over something like that. "I'm not sure I want to know where Gar got his games. Some might have been legal but others probably weren't. So, if we do roms then they have to be our own. That way mom and dad don't get in trouble and so we don't either." He shakes his head," It's a whole legal thing."
Those eyes look around at the places around them," It could be. I've noticed that it does strange things sometimes." Even though he hadn't been in Madison Valley all that long.
“I’m not afraid.” That was a strange statement. He wasn’t afraid. Was he? Maybe somewhere deep down he was afraid of not being able to ever. But he didn’t admit it. At least not out loud. Okay, maybe there were some weird fears there he hadn’t been aware were floating around in his head. For a little bit he was just quiet as he looked up at some of the lights on a rooftop nearby.
“Hm. He never mentioned anything illegal. “ Conner shrugged. It wasn't like he was about to turn his friend in or anything. Even if he was there. “However he did it, I'm glad he did. I wasn't allowed to leave the tower at that time. “ He wasn't entirely sure why still. “Do you like it here? “ Conner was still on the fence about it all.
"Everyone is afraid of something. Even dad gets afraid sometimes," He states. After all, he's seen his father scared. Even seen him upset but seeing his father scared had been scary in its own right. It was something that he never wanted to see again. Afraid for his family. Afraid for the world. Just... afraid.
Jordan gives a bit of a smile," Some people that do illegal things won't mention that they're illegal. I just know that we need to be careful if we do build our own. That way nothing comes back on us or mom and dad." The last thing he wanted was his dad and mom to get in trouble for something they decided to do just for fun.
"I have my mom and dad here. I've got you and Laura too," He tells him. "I miss Jon but I have family here. So, yes, I like it here. It might be different if I didn't have my parents, you, or Laura though. If I got stuck with some stranger instead of with dad. Then? I might not like it here. But I have family here, so I do." Yes, Conner was included in that family.
Conner didn’t respond again about the fear. Maybe there was something there. But he didn’t want to bring life to it just then. So, instead he nodded. “I don’t know much about the law.” He admitted with a shrug. His first time out of Star Labs he thought the police were the bad guys, so law wasn’t exactly his area of expertise.
“..It’s easier now. Being here.” Conner had struggled at first. Finding anyone to connect with was hard for him. “Never had to make friends on my own before.” Dick had done that for him. He hadn’t realized how comfortable that was, Dick running the tower and being in charge of how things went. He’d liked it then. It made adjusting a bit harder though. “Look. Even this place is lit up. “ They were in front of the game shop. Even lights caused that place to be blindingly bright.
They didn't have to talk about fear if the other didn't want to. Though, that was the only thing he could think of that stopped Conner. That kept the other from learning how to fly. Just because it had been his problem didn't mean it was Conner's but it probably was. He'd help the other as much as he could. "The law isn't too bad, depending on who you deal with," he states. Not all law men were bad guys.
"I'm glad that it's easier for you," Jordan tells him with a slight smile. He knows, too, that it was probably far harder to connect. Especially if the other's original life had been different. Now? Conner had a family that relished him and loved him. The other had siblings that wouldn't ever want to see him go. Something that he isn't sure if Conner knows or not, but he hopes that he did.
When they stop in front of the game shop he can't help but laugh," I see that. These lights are bright." He takes a hold of the door handle before opening the door and letting Conner go in first before heading in.
