The fire alarms were for Kol's peace of mind as much as for Kayla's safety. If she was in another room and didn't notice any signs of trouble, they would at least warn her.
Perhaps that was why Kol indulged them. He knew that they enjoyed the expressions, particularly his angry ones, and, in turn, he enjoyed the attention it granted him. It was really a win-win situation. "Bonnie Belle it is, darling." He pressed a kiss to Kayla's forehead. "Let's grab our coats and head out." He liked Logan just fine, but Kayla deserved to eat at a fancier place once and a while along with have a break from milkshakes.
As the two shrugged on their jackets, Kol nodded at her words. "Of course, love. Having a significant other is all fine and good, but your world should certainly not revolve around them." He wanted Kayla to have a well-rounded life with plenty of experiences. Marriage would only be one of those and while memorable and meaningful, there was more to life than just a relationship. One should be defined by more.
