Who: 13+
What: NYE Party
When: Dec 31 (can count for Jan AC)
Where: The Loft
Rating: low

The Loft was celebrating New Year's Eve all day. Starting at 11am, they had tournaments on one side of the room including Magic the Gathering, Connect 4, Battle Ship, and Trivia. On the other side D&D campaigns raged on.

At 5pm the tournaments were done and more relaxed play could be had throughout the lounge, though there were game challenges people could try to achieve for points to win prizes, like gather x amount of resources in Catan before winning.

Alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks plus their normal food menu was offered until 11pm when they switched to finger foods. A countdown at midnight and a free drink of your choice was offered. They stayed open until 1am.

Some people might see running a business on New Year's Eve as a burden, but May thought it was going to be fun. At least she certainly hoped it would be fun. She liked providing a space for people who might not necessarily want to 'party' in the traditional sense. It was much quieter here than a club or bar and May thought a little less pressure for someone who might be on a first or second date too.

She currently was putting back a few boardgames as she hummed to herself. Technically Christmas was over, but she had Deck the Halls stuck in her head and so that was what was coming out from behind her lips.

Elijah didn't particularly want to celebrate the holiday, not after losing Hayley again, but he thought games sounded okay. Mostly they made him miss Cami as well, but perhaps a distraction would help. And, unlike his sister's boyfriend, would not be ripping out throats and owing May a new table.

He smiled at the Christmas song, because some celebrated until the Epiphany after all, and Orthodox Christmas didn't happen for another week.

"Hello May." The pair hadn't spoken much, but he did know May through Alyssa.

She looked over when she heard her name, then smiled when she placed the man. "Oh, hi Elijah." She put back the last board game into its slot on the shelf. "Come out to play a little Dungeons and Dragons?" She was teasing him a little. Elijah did not strike May as the sort who would play a game like that. She also understood him to be very old and she was sure he'd seen things that was basically like playing D&D anyway.

"Definitely not Dungeons and Dragons. I needed to get our of my house, so I decided to stop by every place hosting a party, and I do like a game now and again." Especially trivia games. "Do you have any new trivia games for purchase? Or maybe something I could play with my ward?"

He pulled a game he thought he remembered Alyssa mentioning, but realized he couldn't play it with his siblings because a real super fight could break out in trying to win.

"Place looks busy tonight."

"Trivia huh?" She thought about it. She usually went with what seemed to be popular to play. It seemed like the patrons were pretty good at sussing out what was enjoyable more than others, which made sense.

"Well, a lot of people are playing this one." She said as she pulled out A shot in the dark and held it out to him. "We have a few for sale too. Seems like people like the idea of playing on a even playing field." Though now she had to wonder if there were questions in there most people wouldn't' know, but a vampire might because they were literally there when the thing happened.

"It is, isn't it?" She looked around the room briefly and a smile appeared. "I thought it'd be nice to have a more low-key experience for some people for New Years. I know partying can be too much for some people."

Elijah liked trivia, not least of all because he happened to know many things. Just ask Cami. He trusted May's judgment considering she own and ran a successful board game cafe. Plus, Alyssa considered the woman family and so Elijah would follow her judgment.

He read about the game and couldn't help a chuckle which escaped him. "I'll grab that one. Why not find out whether or not I know these things?' Sure, Elijah didn't enjoy being made a fool, but he thought his siblings might actually play this with him. Or his ward.

"I think that's one thing I appreciate about this place, nights like this offer a variety or activities." Elijah would make his way to the Wyrm, then Verdant, before supporting his sisters and ringing in the New Years. "New Years is never my favourite holiday," he admitted. "Live through enough of them and they lose all meaning."

"I guess it's easy to run out of resolutions after a few... hundred years?" May was making a guess at Elijah's age. She never really asked him and she had no idea what the etiquette for asking a vampire their age. "I'm only - well, not quite a hundred yet and I've given up on resolutions." She smiled, mostly joking. May was actually pretty okay with her age, though she still didn't necessarily go around saying it. Especially when she was turning sixty in 2024

"I'm over a thousand years at this point. Resolutions stopped mattering centuries ago." Not that he ever made them, because people didn't think of such things in the twelfth century.

He laughed. "You look good for a human who hasn't quite hit a hundred, yet," Elijah joked. The Original managed to loosen the fuck up in this place.

"But really, I made one Resolution in the last hundred years and I didn't even keep it."

"You don't look a thing passed 129." She grinned. May knew the general rules of a vampire in the sense that they stopped aging when they were turned. She knew Elijah was an 'original' but that was as much as she knew about that and she didn't like defining people by what they were so she didn't go into more detail. Just like Peter wasn't his powers.

"I'm bad at keeping them. Though last year my resolution was to simply support Peter and I think I've been doing a good job at that. That might be cheating a bit though since I'd do that anyways." She'd do it no matter what. "But I do remember once in my early twenties I made a ridiculous resolution to date a drummer. I tried really hard that year to make it happen. Never did though."

Surprisingly people didn't usually make that joke towards Elijah or his siblings (Alyssa's didn't count because his adopted sister was quite adept at cutting one down to size), and he actually chuckled. "I know. I look fantastic." He appreciated when people didn't press for details quite honestly.

"I think that's a good resolution, regardless." He knew how close family could be.

He actually blinked and then tilted his head in consideration. "No, you know what? I could see and a drummer more than you and a guitarist."

She laughed softly. "I'll take that as a compliment. Though if you asked anyone if they saw me dating again after my husband died, they'd probably think you were crazy too." Especially dating a Leprechaun, but she didn't share that openly - that was a thing for Sweeney to share.

"But this place has a way of changing you. Mostly for the good, I'd say."

"Everyone deserves happiness. My sister and Marcelus have finally settled. Alyssa fell in love here," though Elijah's voice said exactly what he thought of Damien. "I'm glad you found someone."

He held the game she recommended in his hands. "Well...as long as you think it." Elijah and Kol would disagree wholeheartedly, given they'd both lost the women they loved.

"Let me know how you liked the game or not. I'm always on the look out for things my nephew hasn't played that he'll like."

Nam-Ra and Open

2023-12-28 04:17 am UTC (link)
Nam-Ra had been excited to go attend one of the events for NYE with Leo. She had lost track of him and had done some wandering as she investigated the different games that were going on. None of them were familiar to her…or more like she never played them. Not that anyone who knew her would be surprised since that wouldn’t have been approved of by her mother as it did nothing to help Nam-Ra in becoming the woman that her mother wanted. Watching one of the card games, she tilted her head slightly as she paid attention. She was great at picking up on things quickly like this and one of the reasons she was smart. Maybe not so much with people and emotions, but when it came to something like this, she learned rather quickly. Realizing she got lost in studying what was happening, she moved in front of someone standing near her. “I’m sorry,” she frowned, “I didn’t mean to get in your way.”

Karl decided to venture to the Loft briefly, so he and Nita could get out of the house and allow Hope an hour to herself. Plus, the werewolf found he liked playing a game now and again, especially learning ones he might want to play with his family once Nita aged another year or two...or three. Not that he wanted her to grow up too quickly, obviously.

He'd noticed Nick's ward and intended to greet her, but didn't want to interrupt her.

"Nah, it's okay Nam-Ra." Nita waved at the young woman. "Which game were you watching?" Karl found he liked the look of it, but didn't recognize the game...which didn't surprise him.

Nam-Ra smiled at Karl once she realized it was him, but still felt the apology was needed even if he was saying it was okay. The smile only got bigger at the sight of Nika. “Hey,” she said, waving back at the little one. “At the moment, I’m looking at this magic game. I never played anything like this back home, so I’m mostly exploring and seeing what they are all about.” She admitted, pushing a piece of her dark hair behind her ear. “What brings you and Nita here? Are you trying to start her very young so she can be the best player around?” Her tone teasing on the last question because she didn’t mean it at all. No, she knew what those parents looked like from her own mother and since she knew that wasn’t the case, she could joke about it. Plus she liked Karl from the times that they had interacted and he was always nice to her.

Nita liked attention and recognized Nam-Ra as Pack. Karl made a point to have his daughter interact with anyone his Alpha considered Pack and Nam-Ra fell under that category. Plus, they'd all lived under the same roof at one point.

"We needed to get out of the house for a bit and I thought I'd find a game for Logan or maybe something for Rory. Plus, I like the food May serves." He'd already ordered something.

"I think I heard of Magic before. It's...world building but with cards? Or...army building? I just know it involves cards and building decks. How are you? Is Leo with you?"

Re: Nam-Ra and Karl

Nam-Ra thought Nita was adorable and couldn’t wait until she was older so that she could maybe teach the girl some things. Her being welcomed into the Pack meant a lot to her since she never really ever felt welcomed into a group or family this size. They treated her much better than many, and it meant something to her, which was why she was always happy to help out in whatever way was needed.

“Well, I’m glad you two decided to stop off here, allowing me the chance to see you two. And you have plenty of options if you decide to get them any games,” she didn’t say anything on the food since it wasn’t like she could vouch for it. All her reviews came from overhearing people at a great distance talking about it.

Nam-Ra listened to what he said before nodding briefly. “From what I have picked up by watching seems about right. I’m still trying to pick up what I can and gain a better understanding of the whole thing.” Taking her attention off the game to focus on him, which Nam-Ra had no problem with unlike maybe some teens might on being disturbed. “I’m good and yourself? Yes, he’s somewhere around here,” a smile showing up at the mention of Leo. He was her first real boyfriend and Nam-Ra really did like him.

While Karl didn't usually exude friendliness, he did have a soft spot for Nick's ward so he spoke more gently than with most people. She reminded him of a younger him and if Elena accepted her and Nick as well, then why wouldn't Karl?

"Nita needed to get out for a few minutes and I thought Hope might want some peace while she took a bath." Nita reached for Nam-Ra. "Only if she wants to hold you, baby girl," Karl said with a laugh.

"We're good. Glad you're out and about since Nick is working tonight." Karl didn't really care about Leo, but since Nam-Ra did he could at least be polite. Besides, the young man seemed nice and harmless.

Re: Nam-Ra and Karl

If anyone had tried to speak ill of Karl with Nam-Ra, she’d have quickly disagreed with them because he had been nothing but kind to her. Even back home she formed her own opinions and while most of the time she kept them to herself to please her mother, she still never sided with anyone just because. Only now she was allowed to be a little more vocal than back home.

“That was very nice of you, and I’m sure Hope appreciated some time to herself. And allows father/daughter bonding time,” she told him with a smile, watching as the little girl reached for her. “I don’t mind, if you’re sure?” Nam-Ra knew Nick and the pack welcomed her even with knowing her condition, but she still felt better about checking, understanding if someone feared her. She feared herself most days so she didn’t blame anyone else. Though it made her smile to know Nita wanted to come to her since it made her feel less like the monster that she still felt about herself even when no one else did. Nam-Ra knew full well what she was capable of if she gave into the virus. She had seen it first hand from the few like her what they had done and she fought it every day to avoid it.

“As tempting as it was to stay in and read, I figured it’d be good to get out and spend time with people near my age. Yes, which he got off easy cause he knows he won’t have to worry about me doing anything outrageous that he might get a call about.” Nam-Ra was fully aware of people planning to attend a party and underage drinking, which most of that was thanks to her hearing than an invite herself. But even if they had invited her, it wasn’t something that interested her. Smoking had been her biggest vice and she hadn’t even touched her pack in a while. Her source of stress was not here so there was no reason for her to reach for the pack.

Karl appreciated the support from the young woman. He didn't care who liked him, exactly, but who wouldn't like a little support?

Father/daughter time was some of his favourite times, though time with both his wife and little girl filled his heart in a way he never imagined. "I trust you." He held out Nita who clapped delightedly about greeting her friend.

"Always a good plan. You should definitely meet more people your own age," he agreed. Karl laughed. "Trust me, you couldn't come close to the shit Nick pulled." Which he'd only recently turned Pack, Nick's reputation...was definitely party boy. Truthfully, Karl didn't care as much about drinking ages, but he wouldn't overstep Nick's boundaries, whatever they were.

“I promise not to break that trust,” she said even though she was positive it wasn’t needed. But the fact that this was his daughter, and with her secret, Nam-Ra still felt better about making it known regardless of whether it had to be said or not. “Hey you!” She said with a smile, feeling happier than she ever when getting all the awards for her grades that Nita was wanting to come to her.
Holding out her arms, she took Nita from Karl, wrinkling her nose at the little one and smiling at her. “You’re getting so big!” She said before looking back at Karl.

She knew he was right, especially since she knew probably more adults than people her own age. Not that she had any problem considering she got along better with adults than people her own age, but she was doing better and that was what mattered. Seemed like it had gone well with meeting Leo’s friends so that was good in her mind. “Was he that bad?” Nam-Ra asked curious; however, more just on getting to learn more about Nick than to exploit the information. “I think anyone who knows me can safely say they do not see me doing anything outrageous unless we start counting all nighters to study as wild.” Which she been there and done that plenty of times over the years moreso back home than here. “If it’s easier for you, I can hold her while you glance around here,” she offered in case he wanted a few moments to himself before he went off to whatever else the two had planned.

"I'm not worried. Really." Karl trusted few, but those in Elena's Pack always received his trust. He might not like everyone, but he trusted them. Nita smiled widely and her fingers went to tangle into Nam-Ra's hair. "Baby, be gentle with your friend's hair, please." The werewolf noticed Nam-Ra's happy expression.

"Nick was always nice, don't get me wrong, but he was always into parties and dating various people. My shock upon learning he settled down with someone cannot be overstated," Karl joked. "Remind me to use you as an example when Nita doesn't want to study. But for real, don't forget to be a kid sometimes."

Nita didn't look ready to return to Karl and the stroller, so he nodded. "Sure. I'm going to pick up a game and bring home some snacks for tonight." The werewolf could use a moment not holding his daughter, since she didn't seem to love the stroller tonight anyway. "Thank you, Nam-Ra."

Liz and Peter Parker
[info]has_flashes
2024-01-02 01:29 am UTC (link)
Liz was enjoying this version of New Years. She liked parties just fine. She liked dressing up and she had fond memories of kissing Peter at midnight last year. But this was nice too. They'd been playing board games and having food while waiting for midnight to come. It was relaxing and she knew Peter liked boardgames so she was enjoying taking the time to learn some of his favourites. She still needed to get better at Catan though.

Suddenly it was almost midnight and she was counting down along with everyone else in the establishment. She always thought the countdown was fun since it gave you a sense of community. Even if it was for 10 seconds, people were together in a single moment.

"Happy New Year Peter." Liz smiled and leaned over to kiss him. They'd been dating for awhile now and she hoped he wouldn't mind that her kiss lingered. She scooted a little closer in her chair, kissing him. Her cheeks were a little flushed since she knew they were kissing in public and it was more than a peck, but sometimes it was hard to let go.

Her hand moved to the back of his neck when suddenly she saw images in her mind. It hadn't happened here in Madison before. Liz had assumed it could only happen with Max back home. Liz saw rubble. She felt heat. She saw Peter and she saw May. May was dead. She felt a rush of sorrow she hadn't felt since finding out Alex had died.

She pulled back suddenly and a tear already had escaped down her cheek from the rush of emotions.

Call it intuition. Call it spidey-sense. Call it whatever you want. But Peter immediately knew something was wrong even before Liz pulled away. He just didn't know what was wrong.

And so he asked.

"What's wrong, Liz?" He brushed a hand over her hair, hoping it might bring her some small comfort.
