Quentin as usual obsessed a bit over the food for their second Spooky Movie Night but in the end, he went with snack-type foods. They were easier for movie watching especially if they were going to be in his bedroom. He could get a couple of trays set up with food and they could sit on his bed and snack while they watched the movie. He’d brought everything he needed home with him on Thursday night and let Jonathon know the general plan and types of food so he’d know what kind of drinks to get.
He spent much of his Friday night making the dips and arranging the meats, cheeses, fruits, and crackers on one of the trays. He spent some of Saturday morning rearranging his bedroom so that they had the option of sitting on his bed, or on the floor with a low table for their food. He downloaded the movie to his laptop and then got it all set up on a chair, ready to go when Jonathon showed up with their drinks.
And as soon as he had everything set up the way he wanted it, he began to second-guess everything. Why was he like this?? It was too late to change anything now, Jonathan would be there any minute. He checked over the trays and made sure there were plenty of chips and such for dipping. Spoons for the spreads and dips. Okay. The only thing missing now was Jonathon.
It felt like it had been an extra long week and Jonathon was looking forward to relaxing and chilling out with Quentin for their second movie night. After hearing what had been chosen for the food he was having a hard time deciding what to get for drinks. In the end he’d gone with red wine, red cream soda and Coke. Hopefully one of the three would be something Quentin would like.
He walked in, but didn’t see Quentin. First things first, Jonathon wanted to change. He wnt to his room, undressed then pulled on a pair of pajama bottoms and comfy t-shirt. Much better. He paused. Was this a date? Should he have kept his other clothes on? Had the other one been a date? He didn’t recall it being called so, but couldn’t remember. He knew Quentin wouldn’t mind so he shrugged and left, making his way to Quentin’s room. There he found the fan fussing over trays of food. Walking over he kissed him. “Hi,” he smiled, “I went for the comfy look. Hope you don’t mind. I couldn’t decide what to get to drink so I bought some red wine, red cream soda and Coke. What would like to drink?”
Quentin was similarly dressed, in a shirt that might look suspiciously familiar to Jonathon. He grinned into the kiss and kept his arms looped around Jonathon’s waist as he pulled back. He had the decency to look sheepish as he looked up at him. “It’s movie and snuggles night, I think comfy is the order of the day.” He leaned up for one more quick kiss then stepped away to look over the drink options. “OK IF I knew you were bringing the red cream soda I would have bought some ice cream to make floats for dessert. We’ll just have to save a couple of cans of it to make floats later.” He smiled then set the drinks on the desk. “I think I’ll have wine though.” It had been a WEEK and he could use the relaxation.
“I’ll go get glasses. Did you want one with ice for the soda?” He waited for the answer then came back with the appropriate glasses for each of them. He gestured to the bed and the floor. “I figure we can sit on the bed or on the floor up against the bed. There’s a bench over there we can use as a table if you want to sit on the floor.” He wasn’t particularly picky either way and he turned to pour their drinks while the other man decided. Once they were settled with the food he leaned over and started the movie then waved his hand doing the tutt to dim the lights as the movie started. It was one of the times he actually really liked the remake, but he hadn’t watched it in a long time.
Jonathon didn't notice the shirt at first, but later he definitely would. He smiled down at Quentin. He was so cute and his smile made it feel like he had butterflies in his stomach. "It's true. All movie nights demand comfy clothing. Not to mention if I eat too much these are much easier on me." He laughed, leaned into the kiss and let his fingers smooth down over Quentin's hair before releasing him. "I couldn't make up my mind. It just means we'll have to have the floats later this week. I haven't had one in a very long time."
He thought for a moment and looked over the food. "I'll have wine too." He listened to the options and went with the floor with the bench as their table. It would be easier with the wine and the food. They moved the bench then put the food and drink on it before settling down.
Taking a plate Jonathon got a little bit of everything. "It all looks good and I'm hungry." He turned his attention back to the movie as he dug into his food. Sometime later after a couple of glasses of wine, he turned to Quentin. "Can we pause? I need a bathroom break. I'll make it quick." And he did. He returned and this time he put his arm around Quentin, snuggling close.
The dips he’d made had come out even better than he’d expected. He would have to make sure to keep the recipes in case they ever had a party of some kind. Was he turning domestic? He didn’t care. He was honestly happy for the first time in what felt like years. It honestly probably was years if he thought about it. Now was not the time to think about anything but the food, the film and the company.
He paused the movie on request and took the time to clean up a bit and refill their glasses. He took his own little break then settled down to watch the rest of the film all nicely snuggled up with Jonathon. He reached back and pulled down a throw blanket that he’d left on the end of his bed for just such a moment and draped it over them. He flinched and snuggled closer at a few of the scarier scenes. Not that the movie was particularly scary, but there were a few jump scare moments that he had forgotten about. Best way for them as far as he was concerned.
By the time the film was over he was very relaxed and nice and comfy exactly where he was. “I did find the original if we wanted to make it a double feature.” He smiled up and then kissed the man’s jaw. “But first I'm gonna put everything away.” It wasn’t all that much really, but he didn’t want to keep food in his room longer than absolutely necessary. “There’s a few other movies in the folder on the laptop if you want to pick something else.” He disappeared into the kitchen and returned a few minutes later with a couple bottles of water. He set those on the night stand then sat on the edge of the bed. Whatever they ended up doing now, he was definitely going to be doing it in bed. That way they could just snuggle up and sleep after.
"I liked it," Jonathon said once the movie ended. "It still has some of the original cheese." He smiled, this kiss sending warmth through him. "I'm down for watching the original." Before he could get up to help Quentin had gathered things up and gone to the kitchen. He moved the bench back to where it had been then stretched a bit. He folded the throw and put it back over the bottom of the bed. It was when Quentin returned and sat on the bed that Jonathon really noticed the t-shirt he was wearing. "I have a shirt just like that," he chuckled. It didn't really cross his mind that it could be his shirt.
"Am I staying in here tonight?" He still wouldn't assume even though they'd had the being exclusive conversation. Even with that they had another movie to watch and clearly Quentin wanted to do so from the bed, so Jonathon moved to pull back the covers and asked Quentin to join him.
“That’s honestly why I liked it so much! A lot of remakes try to be so different or modern. This one managed to update the look without ruining anything.” He was sure it had something to do with David Tennant. That man had a way of turning everything he touched into gold. He chuckled and looked down at the shirt. He pulled it out away from his body a bit to get a better look at it. “You did…” He grinned up at him. “I mean you can have it back whenever you want it. But it somehow ended up mixed into my laundry and I thought I’d wear it to bed. It’s super comfy.” And by Somehow he meant that he just so happened to find it in the dryer when he was putting his own laundry into the wash and he borrowed without asking first.
He nodded at the question then moved to bring the laptop over and set it up on the bed where they could more easily watch the movie and snuggle. “I was hoping you would at least. I mean, it’s gonna be pretty late when the movie is done.” He got under the covers and snuggled up against Jonathon before starting the movie. This one was clearly better than the remake, but he remembered it being a bit scarier too. Then again, he’d been a lot younger the last time he’d watched the original.
"I did?" Jonathon returned the grin, listening to Quentin explain how he had acquired his shirt. "I see. Should I worry about all my laundry from now on?" He teased with a chuckle. The truth was he didn't mind him wearing his shirt. It was kind of sweet. No one had ever wanted to wear his clothes before. And he looked good in it. "You can keep it and wear it. You…tt looks good on you.” A slight blush came to his cheeks as he smiled, but he quickly moved to slide into bed and get comfy.
Jonathan was warm and comfy all cuddled up with Quentin. “No promises that I’ll stay awake the whole time. No poking me to wake me up.” He laughed and gave Quentin a squeeze as the movie started. It couldn’t be helped though. His belly was full, he’d had a few glasses of wine and was comfy with his boyfriend. What more could he ask for?
Quentin just shrugged. “Only the comfy shirts that look good on me.” He grinned and leaned over for a quick kiss. “And I might want to borrow your jacket later when we go do something cute and autumn-y like apple picking or a hayride or something.” He’d kinda always wanted to have someone to do things like that with, but he’d never dated someone who enjoyed them. OR if they did, their timing was wrong for one reason or another.
That blush did not go unnoticed, he just kept his thoughts on it to himself. Once they were all snuggled up he shifted to hook his leg over Jonathon’s and rested his head on the man’s shoulder. “I’ll keep that in mind.” He yawned then nuzzled his cheek against him as he tried to focus on the movie even though now all he could think about was those arms wrapped around him and the man they were attached to. Was he getting in over his head with this? Maybe. But he was happy and he did his best to just focus on that part instead of all the other what ifs that came with dating someone.
"Oh, I see. Hmm, maybe I need to hide all my comfy shirts that would look good on you." He laughed and returned the kiss, amused and still thinking how adorable Quentin was. "And my jacket?" He shook his head, grinning. "I'm losing clothing left and right! This isn't fair, you know. Your shirts won't fit me. They'd be like crop tops. I'll have to find something else of yours to squirrel away." He tapped Quentin on the nose and smiled.
Jonathon settled back in, getting comfy and cozy. He rubbed over Quentin's back as he watched the movie. However, he found himself growing tired, his lids growing heavy while he tried to stay awake. It was a losing battle though and he drifted off to sleep.
