Who: Kayla and Lo What: Kayla describes her past When: Thurs night. Where: the woods Rating: mentions of murder and underage relationship Status: doc
Okay, so meeting in the woods seemed a bit of a strange place for Kayla to talk to Logan. But, her house involved a vampire with enhanced hearing and Logan’s as well. This sounded like the best place for some privacy. Kayla ensured the pair of them had their caffeinated beverages of choice.
“Thanks for meeting me out here.” She smiled at Logan and found a log on which the pair of them could sit and talk. Kayla chewed nervously on her lip and pushed her hair out of her face yet again. Unfortunately, she didn’t remember a hair elastic.
Logan was a little bit concerned when Kayla had said she wanted to meet him out in the woods to talk, but he was happy to do it if that was what she needed from him right now. He smiled at her as he sat down on the log next to her and accepted his beverage.
“I was happy to do so,” he assured her. “It seemed pretty important to you for us to come out here and it was not hard to be here.”
He did enjoy the woods and he figured with his senses he could make sure that the two of them were safe.
Kayla passed her boyfriend a water bottle she’d packed. The teen let out a sigh, feeling all of her nerves. And then she just started talking, before the tiny piece of courage evaporated.
“I know I didn’t…haven’t been super open about my past.” She started chewing on her lip. “Or very open in general. Back home I.” Kayla stopped, embarrassed. “I used a fake ID to go to a club with a new friend after my move. I met a guy and long story short…turned out the next day he became my substitute English teacher and we started dating. Laney, my future daughter, told me she’s named for that friend. Because Nick kills her.” She tried not to cry and took a long drink of water.
Logan was quiet as he listened to everything that she was saying and let out a shocked breath when she told him what happened to her friend. Not wanting to presume anything, he took her hand. “Kayla, look at me.” He shook his head. “I have never pried into your life back in your world because I figured you would tell me when you were ready. Plus, here where we are? Everything is so different for both of us.” He ran his thumb over the back of her hand. “I am so sorry about your friend. Is Nick the name of the guy you were dating?”
He’s full of concern for her and can’t believe she’s been carrying so much on her shoulders. “Have you told your dad or have you been carrying this all alone?”
“No, Dad knows. He was there with me when I found out about Laney.” And the knowledge with the appearance of the future kids had sent her into a spiral. Thankfully, with the help of Kol, Kaylaa slowly worked through the pain and the fear that her parents wouldn’t love her as much.
She slowly worked through the rest of what he said and the shocked breath didn’t go unnoticed. “I know and I appreciate the space.” Everything was different and, while Kayla missed Laney and her grandmother, her life here was so much better. She had people who loved and supported her. Kol might expect things from her, but they weren’t any different than any other supportive father.
“Nick is the guy, yeah. And obviously given what happens, he isn’t the nice person I thought he was.” She couldn’t help a few tears, but didn’t look away from her boyfriend and the comfort helped.
If Nick was there right now, Logan would probably do something that Kayla might not appreciate. He wasn’t one for violence, but he also didn’t like it when people hurt the ones he cared about. And he cared a great deal about the girl in front of him. He was still holding her hand but he opened his arms, giving her the choice to be hugged or not.
“What do you need from me, hun? I need you to know that I am here no matter what so whatever your boundaries are right now, you just need to let me know, ok?” He gave her a slight smile. “But unless you want me to, I am not going anywhere, Kayla. I’m here and I care so much for you.”
Kayla felt pretty sure Lo would have to get in line behind her dad. While Kol probably wouldn’t rip off Nick’s head, given that Allison didn’t condone murder and neither did Kayla, she didn’t think he’d remained unscathed if the Dome brought Nick into this place.
She stepped into the hug, but not before she said, “I’ll understand if you would rather be friends. I’m kind of broken. But thank you. I care about you too. A lot.” Kayla wrapped her arms around Lo and looked up in his face.
Logan closed his arms around her and then shook his head. “I’m not breaking up with you, Kayla,” he reassured her. “None of this does anything to change how I feel about you.” He looked down into her face. “I get that you’ve been hurt and have been through a lot, but unless you don’t want to see me any longer I’m not planning on going anywhere.”
Logan didn’t condone murder, either, but he was pretty sure he could make a case for severely hurting the guy. He was sure that if he didn’t do it that Kate would if he had permission to tell her if the guy ever showed up.
He knew that his sister wouldn’t be one to allow something like this to go unpunished if he appeared in Madison.
She nodded, although the worry still settled in her stomach. But, Kol and Allison hadn’t abandoned her, so maybe the teen was slowly accepting that people wouldn’t abandon her. “Of course I want to keep seeing you.” Kayla leaned up on her tiptoes to kiss Logan’s cheek.
Maybe at some point he could tell Kate, but Kayla barely knew Lo’s twin and didn’t want her to find out yet. But a part of her felt loved that enough people understood her feelings.
“Want to have a proper date? I’ll text my dad that I’ll be out later than I planned.”
He smiled at her and leaned down to kiss the top of her head. “I’m glad about that.”
He was because for a moment he had been worried that maybe Kayla would say that she needed them to just be friends for awhile. He wouldn’t have protested it because it was something she wanted, but he would have been sad about it.
He would never tell Kate without Kayla telling him it was ok, but if that Nick ever showed up in Madison, Kate would probably want to know why Logan was wanting to hurt him so badly.
He nodded. “A proper date sounds like a great idea. You text your dad and I’ll text my mom and let her know I’ll be out later, as well.”
A date night sounded exactly what was needed and he was happy to take Kayla out. He’d keep doing things with her and trying to make sure she never had a reason to lose her smile here.
He sent a quick text to his mother and then put his phone away, smiling at Kayla. “All right. I’m all yours.”
