Who: Kristoff and Kate (and Sven and Lucky) What: Getting used to the new Madison Valley When: Late July Where: Outside Warning: low Status: Completed via Gdoc
Kate was excited to take Kristoff up on his offer to get Sven and Lucky together. Not only was Lucky struggling with this drastic change of location, but Kate was sort of struggling, too. Having some time with Kristoff and Sven was bound to help her get her head on straight.
She grabbed Lucky’s leash and headed out to the Starbucks where they were set to meet. She could grab them both coffee while she waited for Kristoff to arrive. Lucky followed her into the cafe and waited patiently by her side while she ordered the coffees and the pupoccino for Lucky.
While she waited for the drinks, Kate stood by the window and stared out at the world that she knew was hers, but wasn’t hers at the same time. Two suns? What was this nonsense?
Kristoff didn’t love the new version of Madison. He’d barely gotten used to the technology in the old place and found himself wanting to hide in his house. Which wouldn’t work well for anyone, really. At least he and Kate could have some enjoyable friend time with their companions.
He and Sven made their way to meet Kate and Lucky, but they waited outside the coffee place. Sven knew he shouldn’t go into the cafe, with his rather large body and antlers. He might unintentionally get in someone’s way and Kristoff didn’t want to leave his best friend by himself, not while Sven really seemed anxious with their new surroundings.
After shooting a text to Kate, Kristoff sat and waited.
The chime on Kate’s phone was the Jurassic Park theme. It went off when Kristoff’s text came in, and she pulled the thing from her pocket to read it. A little smirk crossed her features. She pocketed it again and picked up the drink tray with their goodies, then headed outside.
Kate found Kristoff and Sven waiting outside, and set the drink carrier with the four cups on the table. “Hey!” She said, grinning, then leaned in to give Kristoff a hug. As much as she was confused about this place, she was also trying to be optimistic. And spending time with her favorite reindeer (and reindeer guy) would really help.
“How’re you holding up?”
“Hey yourself,” Kristoff greeted his friend. Sven’s ears perked up at the sound of Kate’s voice. He returned the hug, always happy to see Kate. Honestly, he felt rather grateful to have become friends with her.
“I’m doing better.” Kristoff glanced at Sven, who looked more sombre than usual. “However, I don’t think Sven likes this place much. At all. It’s a different kind of noisy for him. How’s Lucky doing in this place? How’s Stiles?”
Kate nodded at that--she was struggling a little with the whole 300 years in the future ordeal. Thankfully they had people around them who they could trust to talk to about these shenanigans. Today wasn’t really about unloading anxiety, it was more about getting the animals together and having some fun. Hopefully they could find a park or something where Sven and Lucky could romp around and play. (There were still parks in the usual spots, right?)
“Lucky’s good. He’s pretty chill when it comes to all of this. Surprisingly so, actually. And Stiles is good. We’re getting our own place. It sort of… was on pause for a little bit, but we’re back into it.” She grinned softly. “How’s Anna?”
Kristoff looked at Kate, who was basically his best friend in this place. “Why did you two pause on it? Unless the three hundred year jump was the pause reason which…I could understand.” Thankfully he had his sister-in-law, her fiancè, and his wife to help him. Besides, he wanted to just have some fun and not worry about their new surroundings.
“Want to go to the park? Make sure it’s the same?” Lucky and Sven could run around and play while he and Kate chatted.
We couldn’t find anything we really liked,” Kate explained gently. She’d been working a lot, and Stiles had been, too. She thought maybe Stiles was a little hesitant to leave his friends in the combined house. She didn’t blame him for that, but she was excited that they were moving in together now. She’d never lived one-on-one with a boyfriend before. This was new. Felt kinda… grown-up.
“Yeah, let’s go to the park.” Lucky perked up at the sound of the word park. “I’m sure we can throw around a couple of tennis balls to keep them entertained.”
Ah yes, that made sense. “Sometimes it takes a minute to find a house you like. I got lucky.” And he’d woken up to a new house and the WC at the door not long after the new MV arrival. Or their arrival in the new Madison Valley?
“And you two deserve the perfect house.” Kristoff believed that for his friend.
He laughed at Lucky’s enthusiasm. Sven seemed happy that his friend looked excited. Kristoff and Sven started to walk.
“You have an amazing house?” Kate asked. They’d been friends for quite some time now--and Sven and Lucky were practically brothers by this point--but Kate had never actually seen Kristoff’s house. Had she? She didn’t think so. They spent all their time at cafes or parks, somewhere with coffee and space for the boys to run around and play. “How’d you get your place?”
Kate blushed a little at that. She never thought she’d end up in a place like this, let alone in love with someone like Stiles--someone she was head over heels for. “Thanks.” She bumped her shoulder into his.
“Now you’re getting all mushy on me.”
“Wait. You haven’t come to my house, have you? Want to go see it now? It’s gotten an upgrade.” Lots of room for Sven and for Anna and Kristoff to start a family. Plus space depending on what Elsa and Qrow wanted to do after their marriage, considering Kristoff assumed they’d want to live together. “Well the first house Anna, Elsa, and I found a space with room to build a barn if Sven showed up. This time the Welcoming Committee showed up at our door and told us our house changed. Not weird at all.”
He grinned. “I’m a hopeless romantic these days, in case you couldn’t tell.” No, Kristoff hadn’t always been this way, but Anna brought out that side of him.
“Yeah!” Kate beamed at her friend. “I’d love to go see it. I’ve been thinking it’s time to get a house myself. Finally settle in a bit.” She and Stiles could get their own place.
Then she chuckled. “Not weird at all.” Playful sarcasm. Yay. “Funny thing is, I’m getting used to it in this place.”
She bumped her shoulder into his. “C’mon, show me your amazing house. Sven and Lucky can run around in the yard.”
