Every so often, Hermann just kind of looked at his life with a healthy dose of "what is this I don't even". He was pretty sure nobody would blame him, though, not if they knew what his life prior to Madison Valley had been like. Hell, even if they knew what his life prior to Daisy had been like. He would, albeit reluctantly, admit to the fact that he'd been a snarky, bitter recluse before her.
Now he was just snarky. It was an improvement, really. To him, anyway.
Hermann didn't have any later classes on Thursday and his office hours had been early in the day, which meant he had time to stop by the bookstore for a moment. Partly for himself, yes, but also partly because he and Daisy had already started amassing a book collection for their daughter despite everything. He was an awkward person a good day, his people skills were occasionally lacking, but if there was one thing he was besides a snarky bastard? It was someone who wanted the best for their child.
There were times he was reasonably sure he was overcompensating for a few things -- and was also reasonably sure that he didn't actually care about it.
He was about ready to head up to the register with the couple of books he'd grabbed, until he remembered a book he'd actually wanted to check and see if they had. And that would be him doubling back to go and see.
