Who: George Lass and Hannibal King
What: Random Encounter
When: Friday evening
Where: Ten Pin Bowling Alley
Warnings: Sexual Innuedo
Status: Incomplete
Ten Pin Bowling Alley was busy tonight. No real surprise there. It usually was on Friday nights. Most of the lanes were occupied. Music blared from speakers overhead, accompanied by the rumble of balls on the lanes and the crash of pins. The smell of popcorn, hot dogs, nacho cheese and beer filled the air. Neon light flickered and flashed from the arcade area, competing with the electronic scoreboards above the bowling lanes.
George made change for a customer and handed over a pair of bowling shoes. He took the shoes and departed without a word, which was a nice change of pace. Either George had blossomed since arriving in Madison or the customers were a horny bunch. She got hit on a lot. Like, a lot. She'd found it flattering at first, but soon grew bored of it, and sometimes annoyed by the more persistent guys.
Case in point: the would-be Lothario lurking by the counter. He'd been chatting with her--at her, more like--between customers. "Seriously, George, when do you get off?"
George paused and looked him in the eyes. "When my boyfriend gets me off," she said, utterly deadpan.
"I thought you said you had a girlfriend," he objected.
"And yet you still persist in thinking I might be interested in you. Delusional much?"
"This guy bothering you, George?" Her manager, Ronnie, asked. He was a big guy, tall and solid with graying hair, gray mustache, and a big belly but he still managed to appear out of nowhere. He reminded George of a guy who'd worked at Der Waffle Haus before he'd died. He was a relaxed boss, not an asshole. George liked him.
"Nah," George said. "If he was really bothering me, I'd bounce his head off the counter."
Lothario guffawed. Ronnie looked at him sadly. "You think she's joking," he said. "She's not. It wouldn't be the first time. If it happens, don't come crying to me. I'll be in my office," he said, addressing that last part to George.
"Okay," George said, nodding at him as she turned toward a new face. "Hi. What can I do for you?"
