Who: Mads and Rhys What: Rhysand and Mads date night When: Sept. 12th Where: the Duval party Rating: medium
Rhysand and Madison had been at the party for about a half hour. He’d worn a suit so dark purple it might look black to anyone who didn’t look too closely. When one vampire got slightly too familiar with Madison, he growled “Mine” and allowed his mind to enter the vampire’s. Which…apparently took the vampire by surprise since it appeared Fae in their world didn’t possess Rhys’s powers.
His violet eyes took in his exquisite girlfriend. “You, of course, do look absolutely radiant.” A server walked by and Rhys plucked two glasses of champagne for the pair. “I do appreciate that nobody here cares about drinking ages.” Rhys sure didn’t and quite honestly the age of 21 baffled him.
Madison found the exchange between Rhysand and the vampire amusing. It was clear from the shocked expression on the vampire’s face that he had not expected Rhysand to be able to penetrate his mind. It appeared that none of the Fae in this world possessed any abilities similar to Rhysand. How fortunate for both of them.
“Why thank you and you, Sir, almost made that vampire piss his expensive leather pants. Congrats.” Madison wore a dress similar in color to Rhysand’s suit; it highlighted her pale skin and bright blond hair. She eagerly accepted the glass of champagne and took a sip. That was some expensive bubbly.
“Me too. Though, for this bubbly, I would so risk breaking the law.”
Rhysand laughed. “High Fae Lord trumps vampire in this case, it would seem.” He didn’t use this power often, not in Madison where most of the vampires were just attempting to live their lives. Like the blond who ran the museum and her security employees. But, just because he didn’t use his power, didn’t mean the High Lord didn’t wonder what it would do to a vampire unused to someone entering his mind.
“I think I’d kindly scare one who tried to take champagne from you. Although, I feel certain you could handle it.” Madison just didn’t like being open about who she was, whereas Rhys didn’t care and even if he did, his wings and violet eyes might give him away as not human.
He took a sip and grinned. “You know what I like about this place? Enough Fae live here that food tastes good.” Rhysand’s eyes took in the scene around him. “Humans seem okay with the whole juice box thing.” Because that was exactly the impression Rhys had at the moment.
Madison smirked. “I’d say take the win.” The blond knew Rhysand didn’t often use his abilities in Madison Valley, not even against vampires. Most of the vampires in Madison Valley didn’t give Rhysand a reason to utilize his talents. Coming here provided him a rare opportunity to do so.
“My hero.” Madison could handle herself. No, she didn’t go out of her way to display to the world what she could do, but when it came to being a witch, Madison was powerful.
The blond nodded. “Yeah, I guess when you’re unable to get home you have to spend your time somehow.” Madison was just glad Rhysand could simply enjoy some food. The witch followed his gaze, taking in the sight of the humans allowing vampires to sink their teeth into necks and wrists alike.
“It certainly seems that way.”
He chuckled and his arm tightened around Mads. “I’ll definitely take the win.” Rhysand knew he could win most fights, but he hadn’t managed as High Lord by making rash decisions and making enemies seemed like a poor decision.
His violet eyes took in Madison and her sarcasm, but he smirked in return. “That’s me.” Rhysand didn’t quite know how powerful Madison was, but he could guess. Rather well in fact.
“So, what do you think of this place? The portal in general.” Rhys had met a couple of the fae here and he’d momentarily thought of what Feyre might think, of fae which lived up to the human notions back home. His kind could lie and didn’t hold any aversions to iron, even though humans wore iron. The High Lord learned very quickly in this world to not utter any type of gratitude towards other fae.
Madison pressed a kiss to his cheek in return. She wasn’t one for being a damsel-in-distress, but she never really minded Rhysand being her knight-in-shining armor. She knew he did it out of genuine caring. She also knew that she was fortunate to have gained the favor and feelings of a high fae lord.
“I don’t mind that you are, you know,” she added. “Sometimes, I can use a little saving.” And at least now she was capable of being grateful for it too. Not like back home where she’d been far more selfish and self-centered. What did Madison think of this place? “Well, I could do without the humans drooling in the vampires’ champagne, but outside of that, it isn’t terrible. Though it sucks that the fae here are trapped in the human realm.” Because she knew what it was like to be trapped too. Hell was far worse than Midnight, but still, a prison was a prison.
Rhysand would never consider his girlfriend a damsel in distress. Ever. But that didn’t mean he didn’t want to be her knight-in-shining armour from time to time, because she deserved someone to take care of her sometimes. The pair worked well because they didn’t want the other to change and their personalities worked well together.
He couldn’t help his laughter at Madison’s very apt description. “I could also do without the human drooling.” A nod, though, because Rhys had conversed with a few Fae. They missed home, and didn’t wish to be trapped here, something with which the High Lord could agree. While he didn’t dislike the life he built in Madison, especially with Madison, Rhys missed his family dearly, having only just gotten them back.
“And sometimes you deserve a little saving, Madison darling.” He leaned over and pulled her tight against him to kiss her properly.
“I figured we were on the same page,” Madison replied with a wink. She knew that Rhys had conversed with the Fae here. No doubt it was nice to be able to speak with those similar to your kind. Perhaps he found a bit of camaraderie among them too. Madison knew it obviously wouldn’t replace his family or anyone from home. Nothing could do that.
His words prompted a genuine smile from Madison and she leaned in, returning the kiss as passionately as it was delivered. There weren't many people that could get away with talking to Madison like that, but Rhysand was one of them. She honestly felt lucky to have him in her life.
He chuckled. “It’s always nice when we are.” The Fae here were similar and different to those at home. Apparently the Fae here also had courts, but theirs were just seasonal, so a Night Court struck them as odd.
When they broke apart to breathe, Rhys looked into Madison’s eyes. “You should move in with me. When you’re ready, of course, I don’t want to rush you, but I would like to live with you.”
Technically, Madison was eighteen and no longer needed a guardian. She’d been pondering the idea of asking Rhys if she could move in, but he’d beat her to the suggestion.
Madison smirked. “I was actually thinking of the best way to ask you if I could move in. I can whenever you want. I would have to tell David, but I think he’s ready for me to move out anyway.” That way there would not be any more awkward run-ins with Loki.
Rhys grinned. “Whenever you want to move in, Madison. Then I can hopefully see you walking around naked more often.” He leaned over and grazed her ear with his lips. “I should probably meet David, but I’m glad we both had the same idea.”
The witch chuckled. “It’s a promise.” As his lips grazed her ear, goosebumps peppered Madison’s skin. Yes, David and Rhys should meet, especially if Madison was going to be moving out. No doubt her guardian would want to know who she was moving in with.
“That can be arranged, but, for now, how about a dance?” Madison polished off her champagne and placed the glass on a passing server’s tray. Then she grabbed his hand and tugged him towards the dance floor.
Rhysa nodded. “A dance sounds good.” He pulled Madison close to him and led her out to the dance floor.
