Who: Ben (Soldier Boy) & Waverly Earp
Where: Apartment Complex
When: After kid plot.
Warnings: none
When his eyes opened that morning, he instantly noticed how incredibly quiet it was. The last time Ben woke up to silence was the day before the kids had arrived. He got out of bed and went to check on the kids, only to find they were gone. He stared at the empty makeshift beds for a minute before he moved to pick everything up, wanting to make things as they were before. He pulled on a t-shirt and exited the apartment to see Waverly. For the first time, his knock at the door wasn’t accompanied by a loud booming voice. Instead, he stood at the door solemnly, wanting nothing more than to get rid of the ache he felt. Ben wasn’t sure why he was standing outside of her apartment instead of snorting something to give him the high he needed, but there he was - vulnerable and uncomfortable. Waverly, too, felt loss rush through her when she realized the twins were gone. Even though she knew it was coming, it didn’t make it hurt any less when it actually happened. Niece snuggles were a necessity this morning. Part of her thought she might one day get used to the Dome playing with her heart. Another part of her hoped she never did. Wynonna was out with Alice when the knock came to the door. Usually she could tell who it was by the knock, but this one was different. Curious who was there, she plodded barefoot to answer the door. She was a bit disheveled with her hair not brushed, just wearing a half tank and a pair of sleep shorts, but she didn’t really care. She was surprised to see Ben there then realized she shouldn’t be. But what was truly surprising was the look on his face. It damn near broke her heart. Waverly didn’t say a word. Just reached out to draw him into a hug and the apartment. It was awkward standing there, and he dropped his head a moment before finally stepping forward into her arms. "I'm starving, babe. There was nobody to make me breakfast this morning. How am I supposed to go on living like this?" Yes, he was being dramatic, but it was better than feeling raw. Ben turned his head to press his face into her neck and he started kissing over her shoulders, his hands rubbing over her back. "We need to find a place of our own and get the hell out of here. It's too fucking small and I can't stand it anymore." She almost felt like giving a small giggle. Seriously? Food? But Waverly recognized something to his behind emotionally when she saw it, so she just hugged Ben as she answered. “We’ll get you something to eat.” WE? That was new. But he really kind of needed someone around right now. She could use the same, and she wouldn’t let anyone else offer Ben comfort either. Maybe she was getting a little territorial after the kids. Whatever. “There’s all these new places. We can figure it out.” She rested her head against his. "Do you want to start looking soon?" He still wished he had access to all his money. Waverly would never have to worry about working a single day, unless she wanted it. Ben was still old fashioned and it bothered him that he couldn't support them on his own - and sometimes he even wished that he didn't have to take off his clothes to make money. Not that he didn't enjoy being admired by so many ladies, but it had been a little embarrassing to have his kids know that's all he was good for. His fingers played in her hair and he was reluctant to let her go from his arms. He hated feeling like this. As if his whole world would be yanked from him at any given second. "We can go out for breakfast instead. Let's do that. I just have to take a shower and put on something better. Or I can go out and bring breakfast back here. Your choice." Waverly would think the old fashioned thing was adorable. She had no problem surviving on her own, taking care of herself. By now, however, she’s figured out that certain things were important to Ben. She’d let him do it and only giggle about it with Wynonna, Doc and her friends. “Getting you fed is top priority, I think.” She lifted her head so she could give him a soft kiss. “Let’s go to Hinkles. Get you some carbs and icky meat.” Waverly wrinkled her nose as she smiled at him. "Excuse me, but meat is not icky." He replied with a pout, folding his arms across his chest. "I didn't bring my wallet. I have to go get it. Do you want to meet me downstairs or wait here?" His fingers laced with hers and he held her hand, not wanting to let go. "Oh. And I guess I should shower. So maybe like ten, fifteen minutes?" “I kinda want to get dressed into something less bedroom.” Waverly smile to Ben as she gave his hand a squeeze. “Fifteen minutes. Meet you downstairs.” How she would explain this turn of events to her sister and Doc…well, that was something she’d deal with later. "Yes." He agreed with a nod and looked her over briefly, grinning as he did so. "Real clothes would be good." He stepped forward and brushed his lips against hers in a tender kiss before turning to leave. "Fifteen minutes." Ben repeated and walked out the door, a smile on his face as he made sure it closed behind him. |
