Jack was feeling a little low lately, ever since the move and the leap forward into the future. It was mostly being in the future that made him a little sad. He hadn’t really expected to make it far, he’d already been dead twice in his very short life, he was maybe kind of hoping that this last time would be the final time. He knew Billie was just using him as a means to an end, and he was okay with that if it meant that his three dads made it out alive and okay. Now was different. Here he wasn’t in danger of dying, and he didn’t have to kill God. Here he had everyone he loved, fully intact and building lives for themselves. He could do the same. He had met a sister here who had welcomed him completely with open arms. He had a cat he loved, he had new friends. Everything was good. Except- as silly as it seemed, he felt like this jump into the future was just bringing him further away from his mom. He’d only met her for a scant few minutes, and he always hoped he’d have more. It was stupid and he was lame. And the guy that looked like his father hadn’t helped his mood. He knew the guy couldn’t help who he looked like, but it was a momentary feeling of rage for him. This time he had a soul, and he asked questions this time and was happy he hadn’t jumped to conclusions. Plus he was going to hang out with Dean and drink whiskey because if it. Hanging out with any of his dads for any reason was always an instant mood lifter. He waited a few minutes and appeared at Dean’s, or where Dean was at least. This huge house didn’t look like the one he had been to just a couple of weeks ago. He turned and looked around him - was that a fountain? He reached out and felt the air around him, and he knew Dean’s essence as well as his own, and he knew that Dean was here. So, knocking on the door lightly instead of using the bell so he didn’t disturb Charlie if she was asleep, Jack waited to see if Dean came to the door. While the leap into the future was definitely bizarre, Dean had absolutely no complaints about a damn thing. He had a beautiful daughter, he was getting married next month, and he was working on ideas for his new business. Plus, their house had mysteriously grown tremendously and it was the house of his dreams. Walk in closets, the most incredible shower ever, an actual theater room and so much more. When he answered the door, he could hardly contain his excitement and he pulled Jack into his arms for a welcoming hug. “Dude. Wait until you see my new place. There are closets bigger than my bedroom back at the bunker. There’s a brick pizza oven and I’m still exploring everything the place has to offer. It’s a bit big, seven bedrooms and then all the extra room, so if you ever decide to change your mind about living on your own, just let me know, buddy.” Dean smiled brightly and clapped him on the back before leading him through the entrance and to the kitchen. “Speaking of, are you hungry? I can make you a fresh pizza!” Jack didn’t have a chance to ask before Dean was pulling him into a tight hug. He loved those. Those were always welcome. He buried his face against Dean’s shoulder and smiled at him when he was released. “So this is yours,” Jack said, looking around him again. He would have never imagined this would be Dean’s house if he were just looking for it without feeling for him, but he was more than impressed with what he saw, and Dean sounded excited to show it off. “Wow,” Jack was a little in awe as he stepped through the door with Dean. Jack was surprised to get an off from Dean again about living with his family. Dean and Cas had both seemed to want him when he’d first arrived, but he thought that they had forgotten about it by now. He liked that Dean didn’t. “I have a cat though,” Jack said. He’d have to talk to Amanda. “And your allergies. Wouldn’t you be worried about that?” The kitchen was amazing. Maybe bigger than Jack’s whole apartment. He ran his hands along the smooth countertops and then the knobs and handles of the doors and drawers around him. “I’m always hungry, Dean.” He smiled as he spotted that oven, the red bricks of which stood out from every other thing in the kitchen. That was so neat. He was kind of as anxious to see the brick oven in use as Dean seemed to use it. “This place is great, I can't wait to see the rest of it. It even looks huge outside, I might have to take a walk to the road when I leave to get a better look.” He paused and stuck his head around another doorframe. “Was that a fountain outside?” “I alway forget about the cat thing. It shouldn’t be a problem.” He walked with Jack inside to the kitchen where he had a bunch of dough already made and just waiting to be rolled out. “Yes, that was a fountain outside. Fucking awesome, right?” Dean grabbed two beers out of the fridge and handed one to Jack before going back to grab the dough to roll out and the sauce, cheese and meat toppings. “I wanted to ask you something kind of important, though. Will you be a groomsmen at my wedding?” “I’ll talk to Amanda when I get home and see what she thinks.” Jack made a move to help Dean roll out the dough, but he stepped back instead. Dean was kind of in his zone when he cooked, and Jack liked to see him look so relaxed. Even if it was something as simple as putting one of those big sandwiches with a ton of everything on them together, Dean seemed so at ease. Jack wondered if anyone had ever told him that. “Amaze balls. I’ve never know anybody personally that had a fountain before. This place seems amazing so far. You should have like, a shooting range in your yard. It looks like you have a lot of room.” Jack sounded a little in awe, snagging one of the cold pepperoni’s from next to Dean and popping it in his mouth. When Dean said he needed to ask him something important, Jack put his beer on the counter and braced himself. He didn’t know why or what for, he hadn’t gotten any bad news in months since he’d been here, but it felt like a habit. “Are you serious?” Jack broke into a smile, his eyes instantly filling with happy tears he was determined not to cry. “I - absolutely. Of course I will.” He hugged Dean around his waist, and rested his head for a second on his shoulder. “That’s a really big deal, thank you for asking me, Dean.” “I’m sorry. Who the fuck is Amanda again? Is that your Taco Bell girlfriend?" Dean questioned and reached for his bottle of beer, taking a long swig. "A shooting range would be cool, but I'm not sure if I want to do that around Charlie." Though it would be helpful to teach her when she was older, that was still a conversation he probably needed to have with Lisa. He was a little surprised when Jack seemed so emotional over the question, and it was like a kick in the gut. Dean still hated himself for the way he treated him back home. He moved to wrap his arms around Jack in return and pressed a kiss to the top of his head. "I'm proud of you, Jack. You've been through a lot in your life, and despite all of that you are a great leader. It would be an honor to have you at my side on my big day.” “I don’t have a girlfriend,” he stated with a shrug. Girls didn’t seem to really like him, except for Harper back at home. He should really stop thinking about that, but it was hard to lately especially since the topic of girls came up and she was really his only kind of close contact with girls. “Amanda is my cat. I didn’t name her though, her first owners did” Jack hadn’t thought about Charlie when he suggested a shooting range. It might not be a good idea, but then again, teaching her gun safety and how to shoot - while still keeping the guns locked up - could prove to be a very good thing in the long run. When Dean hugged him back, he did cry, just a little bit, and he grinned when Dean told him how proud of him he was. “I don’t know about being a good leader, but I’m really happy you think I’m good enough to stand up with you.” He pulled back, he knew how Dean felt about chick flick moments, but he still felt warm and gooey inside. “We’ve all come a long way. And I’m glad you finally found the happiness here that you deserve.” “Jack…when you talk to your cat - she doesn’t talk back to you, does she?” Dean looked to him with a raised brow and then remembered he used to do the same with Miracle. “Do you want a girlfriend? Or even a boyfriend?” He was trying not to push him, but he still wanted to encourage and help him out. “Trust me. I know more than you do. Remember?” He looked down at him with a crooked grin and patted him on the back before he pulled away to start putting the pizza together. “You deserve happiness, too, Jack.” Dean picked up the pizza using his fancy pizza board and slid it into the oven like a pro. “Now we just wait about ten to fifteen minutes and we’ll be eating good.” “She does talk back, unless she’s in a bad mood. Then she’ll destroy the paper towels and toilet paper. And maybe my sofa pillows if she has time.” It took him a second but he realized what Dean was saying. “I speak cat. And to a lot of other animals as well. It’s one of my newer powers, one that I got after I ate the Occultum.” He didn’t understand why he got powers like that when he was just becoming a God Bomb. Now though that he was going to live, they were pretty nice to have. “I’m not sure, Dean. I want the companionship, and to be loved like that, but I’m a little afraid to put myself out there. Being rejected. I don’t want to hurt like that.” He wanted to shift the mood, so he gave a grin. “I’ve been looking at boobs on the internet though, and if we ever go to a place like that again they won’t freak me out anymore. I think.” He looked up a Dean. “I know. I have a lot to learn about everything, but you’ll always know more than me, so I won’t argue.”He leaned back against the counter and took a swig of his beer. “I am happy, you know. Seeing you and Sam and Castiel happy, being able to be in your lives, it makes me happy.” “Yeah, I know how exactly how you feel. Rejection sucks, but it’s just another part of life.” Dean took another swig of his beer and moved to sit down on a stool, motioning for Jack to do the same. His expression shifted towards a devious grin and he sat up, much more interested in talking about boobs. “You’ve been looking at porn on the internet? Tell me everything…” He was more than happy to discuss porn and boobs for hours, if necessary. |
