Weiss had already woken up to a surprise this morning when the twins had arrived. It wasn't the first time her and Fred's future twin sons came to town. They had been here a few times before. The first time, Weiss had been a bit overwhelmed. Children weren't in her immediate future plans and while she was used to them now, she still didn't plan on having kids anytime soon. Luckily, they were only here for a week.
The twins wanted to play, but Weiss had to go to work at the gelato shop. She left them with Fred then got ready and headed out the door. When she arrived at the shop, she saw a little girl standing in front of the door. Weiss figured she was just waiting for her to open up, but the girl turned.
"Mom! About time you got here. Where's my other mom?" she asked.
Mom? Other mom? Weiss froze, not quite sure what to think or what to say. The only thing she got out was "who?" The little girl just gave her an exasperated look. "Uh, Elsa?"
Elsa? Weiss adored the other woman and thought of her as a sister, but she couldn't imagine wanting to have a child with her. Guess in some universe, she did. "Right. Sorry, it's been a long morning." Which was true, having to deal with two hyperactive twins.
"She should be here soon. Why don't we wait in my office?" she suggested. The little girl nodded and Weiss opened the door, turning on all the lights in the shop and got ready for the day. They still had an hour or so before they opened to the public, so they waited in Weiss' office until they heard the bell on the door ring.
The little girl - who Weiss learned was named Skylar - headed out and greeted Elsa. "Hey, mom!"
After sharing breakfast with Qrow and their son, Robin, Elsa finally grabbed her purse and headed to work. It was a short walk and soon enough, the spirit was pulling open the door to the shop. Normally, there was no one at the store that early but Weiss, but today, there was a young girl visible on the other side of the glass.
The first thing Elsa noted was that the girl looked a little like herself…and Weiss. Oh. Elsa immediately made the connection that this could be her and Weiss’s future child. Obviously, Elsa only saw Weiss as a sister, but in some future, they obviously saw themselves as something more. The girl was smiling at her and Elsa forced her limbs to work, tugging open the door and stepping inside the shop.
“Hey…” Elsa trailed off, scanning the space for any sign of Weiss. Finally, her gaze returned to the young girl. “Where is your other mom?”
“Oh! She’s in the office. Let me go get her.” Skylar darted back around the counter and disappeared into the back. Elsa heard the young girl explain how her “Mom” wanted to talk to her. If this was someone else, Elsa may have found it amusing.
While Skylar went to greet Elsa, Weiss began the day like any other day and started working. Mostly because she didn't know what else to do at the moment. Also she needed to distract herself a bit and doing something routine did that for her.
She was just getting out the inventory list when Skylar came into the office, letting her know that Elsa was here. Nodding, she got up and followed the girl out to the main area and spotted Elsa. She gave the other woman a sheepish smile.
"I probably should've figured this would happen when the twins arrived again." As much as she wanted just the twins to arrive, sometimes she had other children with other people. Luckily, Fred understood that it was just the dome messing with them and it meant nothing. "This is Skylar. Apparently, she's our daughter from a different universe."
When Weiss appeared, a sheepish smile on her lips, Elsa quickly sought to reassure her. “I probably should have figured it could happen when Robin arrived,” she replied, giving the other woman a soft smile. Thankfully, Qrow was the same as Fred and didn’t react badly to Elsa suddenly ending up with other future children than Robin.
At the introduction, Elsa turned to Skylar, a smile still playing on her lips, and gently touched the girl’s face. She was beautiful and cute. A perfect combination of Elsa and Weiss. “Skylar, that is such a pretty name,” she said. The girl beamed at the compliment and leaned into Elsa’s touch.
Elsa straightened, but shifted her hand to Skylar’s shoulder. She looked over at Weiss. “Should we put her to work?” She joked. They could always use an extra pair of hands and Skylar was already shooting a hopeful glance in Weiss’s direction.
"Robin is here? How is he?" Weiss had met him the previous time he was here, having brought the twins to the park to play and meeting Qrow and Robin there. The young boy was nice and Weiss hoped he was doing well.
"It is," she agreed. It was a name she could see herself using for a child, so she wasn't surprised that in some universe, she ended up doing just that.
Weiss knew Elsa was only joking and she was about to say no, but then Skylar gave her that look. She tried to not let it affect her but in the end, she softened a little. "We need to refill the gelato before the store opens. Can you help with that?" she asked Skylar.
“Good. A little older than last time.” Which was a learning curve for Elsa, but not one that she or Qrow could not handle. She was just happy to have this time with him.
It definitely felt like a name that Elsa would choose too so it was not surprising that they had named their daughter that. Pretty and adventurous. No doubt mischievous too.
Elsa was kidding, but Skylar obviously took it seriously and was already flashing that adorable, pleading expression at Weiss. Shocking to no one, Weiss relented and asked if Skylar could help refill the gelato machine. The young girl bounced up and down and nodded enthusiastically.
“Yes!” She exclaimed and then grabbed both of their hands, tugging them towards the machine. “You guys never let me help with the gelato machine.”
Weiss smiled. "That's good, I'm glad to hear it." From what she remembered, Robin was a nice kid and she was glad to hear he was doing well.
The old Weiss would've been more strict and said no, no matter how much Skylar pleaded and gave her stupid puppy dog eyes. Or maybe she would have said yes but it would've taken a lot more to convince her. But she didn't see any harm letting Skylar help them refill the machines.
"The machines were cleaned out last night, so we just have to put the gelato in." Weiss headed to the giant freezer where they kept the gelato, grabbing a container and handing it to Skylar. "This chocolate gelato needs to go into the machine labelled chocolate. Think you can handle that?"
“Me too. I was relieved when he showed up safe and sound.” Because people didn’t always arrive in Madison in such pristine condition and they both knew it.
Elsa didn’t see any harm in letting Skylar help them refill the machines. The girl was eager to help out her mothers and Elsa wouldn’t refuse her that. Besides, they only had a set amount of time with the young girl anyway.
While Weiss went in search of the container, Elsa headed to the back and dug out a small apron for Skylar. Returning to the pair, Elsa quickly placed it on Skylar, securing it in the back. The girl did a little twirl to show it off and the sight melted Elsa’s heart. It was adorable.
“Of course I can!” Skylar stood on tiptoes and carefully took the container from Weiss. It was a little heavy for her, but the girl managed to make it to the machine. Elsa took care of opening the machine for the young girl and kept an arm around her as she attempted to fill the machine.
Elsa winced as she spilled a little and a few chocolate puddles formed at her feet. Still, she offered the girl an encouraging smile. “You’re doing great.”
"I bet." Weiss knew very well that some people didn't arrive safe and sound. She had been sent back to Remnant before then returned to Madison Valley just after she had been impaled by Cinder. Luckily, Qrow had been with her and he was able to get her to the clinic quickly.
She figured filling the machines would be easy for a... okay, she wasn't sure how old Skylar was exactly but she seemed old enough for the job. When the little girl had her apron on and twirled, Weiss' lips quirked into a small smile. Okay, even she had to admit, that was kind of cute.
Some gelato had spilled but it could've been a lot worse. When Skylar had finished filling the machine, Weiss smiled. "Good job. Think you can fill the rest of the machines? I need to go do some paperwork, but Elsa can help if you need it."
Oh, Elsa knew it could have been a lot worse. All three of them could have ended up covered in gelato. Instead, they only had a small spill to wipe up, which Elsa did after Skylar finished filling the machine.
Weiss seemed pleased too and at her mother’s words, she beamed and nodded enthusiastically. “I can! Mommy can help me.” She turned to look over at Elsa and the blond nodded. “I can help her.” She placed a hand on Skylar’s shoulder. “Let’s start and let Weiss get through her paperwork, okay?”
Skylar nodded, but ran over to Weiss for a final hug before following Elsa towards the cooler to grab another container of gelato.
