WHO: Qrow Branwen & Elsa (plus Robin) WHAT: Robin returns WHEN: Backdated to beginning of kidsplot WHERE: Qrow's place WARNINGS: None STATUS: Closed/Completed gdoc
After finishing up at the gelato shop, Elsa made her way home to shower and change clothes. She was going to be spending time with Qrow that evening and she certainly didn’t want to arrive at his place sticky and filthy from work. Thankfully, even in a futuristic Madison Valley, it was still only a thirty minute walk back to the home she shared with her sister and brother-in-law.
Following a quick shower, Elsa changed into a pair of shorts and a simple t-shirt. Shoving her feet into a pair of sneakers, the blond ran a brush through her hair, applied some makeup, and then grabbed her purse. She sent off a quick text to Anna, letting her know she was spending the night at Qrows as she made her way down the sidewalk. Given the weather was gorgeous, Elsa didn’t mind a walk and soon enough she found herself outside of Qrow’s house.
Except she wasn’t alone. There was a young man standing there too. A very familiar young man. A hand cupped her mouth and Elsa simply stared at him, unable to form words. His name was Robin and he was Qrow and her future son. Truthfully, Elsa never expected to see him again. This place was not known for its predictability after all. Yet, here he stood and Elsa found herself frozen to the spot, unable to move even as every fiber of her being screamed at her to pull him into a tight hug.
Luckily for her, she didn’t have to move. Robin turned and spotted her standing there. No doubt she looked foolish with her hand over her mouth just staring at him and, in typical teenage fashion, he mentioned it.
“Why are you just standing there? Are you okay?”
Qrow had also just recently got home from work when he and Elsa had made plans for the evening. Not really in the mood to walk home, he simply shapeshifted into a crow and flew to his house, where he took a quick shower. He didn't get as sticky as Elsa had working at the gelato shop, but he did get sweaty. Which he doubted she would want to be around him when he like that.
He'd just gotten dressed when he heard a knock on the door, guessing it was Elsa (though he'd later find out it was Robin who had knocked). Towel drying his hair quickly, he headed over to answer the door. Elsa was there, as he expected. But she wasn't alone and it took him a moment to realize who it was.
"Hey, kiddo," he greeted Robin. "Is it that time again?" Future kids or kids from alternate universes seem to be a favourite of the dome as this wasn't definitely not the first time for him. It was strange but he was used to it by now.
He glanced at Elsa with a questioning look, as if asking her the same question: 'Are you okay?'
The moment was interrupted by Qrow opening the door and greeting Robin nonchalantly. In turn, Robin gave his dad a smile. “It certainly is.” His gaze shifted back to Elsa and the blond flushed, realizing how foolish she must look. Still, Elsa couldn’t help it. She wasn’t sure if she would ever see Robin again. The fact that he was here surprised and pleased her at the same time.
“I’m fine,” Elsa replied quickly. “Just, um, wasn’t expecting to see Robin is all.” Elsa covered the short distance to their son and quickly pulled him into a hug with little protest. Pulling back, she shifted her purse on her shoulder and gestured for Robin to go first. “Why don’t we go inside and have something to eat? Catch up?”
Robin was still eying her curiously, but after a moment, he shrugged, and stepped past Qrow into the house.
Qrow was a little surprised by Robin's arrival too, but probably not as much as Elsa. "Well, it's good to see you again," he returned to smile, stepping aside so both Robin and Elsa could walk in. He did give Elsa another quick look, making sure she really was alright.
"That sounds like a good idea. I'm curious what you've been up to in the future," he smirked a bit. "But maybe we should get something to eat first. I don't know about you two, but I'm a bit hungry." He had just gotten home from work and hadn't had anything since lunch.
Elsa slipped out of her shoes and set down her purse. “How about I cook us something? I’ve gotten quite good in the kitchen.” She’d become quite apt in the kitchen and could manage to cook simple meals without burning down the entire house. Possibly more surprising was the fact that she could make something in the oven besides baked goods.
The blond padded her way into the kitchen. “What do you guys have a taste for? I can make sandwiches or I can cook something more elaborate?” By more elaborate, Elsa meant chicken or maybe macaroni and cheese. Yes, she was still learning after all, but at least she could cook something that resembled a meal now.
Robin was already rooting through the fridge. “How about grilled cheese sandwiches?” He said, peering over his shoulder at the pair. Elsa beamed at the suggestion. She could handle toasting bread.
“I can make that. You want to give me the cheese.” Hopefully, she could make it.
"She has. She hasn't burnt anything in a few weeks," Qrow could help but tease Elsa a little. But she had gotten much better at cooking compared to when they had first started dating. Maybe not as good as a couple months ago, when the dome made them think they were married and considering having a baby, but she was certainly getting there.
"Sounds good to me." Not only would it be simple to make, but it was also delicious and one of Qrow's favourites. "Yes, ma'am," he smirked before grabbing a few slices of cheese from the fridge and handing them to Elsa.
When Robin’s back was turned, Elsa playfully stuck out her tongue at Qrow. Oh, she knew he was teasing her and it was completely justified. While Elsa was better than she used to be, she was far from apt in the kitchen. There were still times she was grateful they had a fire extinguisher. Hopefully, this wouldn’t be one of those times they didn’t need to use it.
The blond set to work heating the pan and preparing the bread slices. As she accepted the cheese slices from Qrow, she playfully poked his shoulder. “Ma’am, huh?” She teased. Turning her attention back to the stove, Elsa set to work putting together the sandwiches and then setting them into the pans. It wouldn’t take long to cook.
“Do you guys want to pull out some chips or something?” Elsa glanced over her shoulder at the boys. “I think there may be some kinds of salads in the fridge too.” The blond turned back to the stove and barely managed to bite back a yelp. She’d almost burnt Robin’s grill cheese.
Qrow just grinned back at Elsa. It wasn't the first time he teased her about her cooking and it wouldn't be the last. But he was also proud of how far she'd come. There was a time when she couldn't make a grilled cheese without burning it. Now she'd gotten better and less burns happened.
"Yep. Or should I call you sir?" he joked before turning to Robin. "Hey, kiddo. Wanna get the chips while I get the salad?" Robin nodded and went to grab some chips while Qrow grabbed the salad. He also grabbed a couple bowls from the cupboard to put the salad and chips in.
If Elsa hadn’t been busy trying to not burn the two sandwiches, there was a good chance Qrow would have ended up with something momentarily frozen. Instead, Elsa kept her focus on the grilled cheeses, flipping them as carefully as possible so as not to send them flying out of the pan. Thankfully, they were done quickly and Elsa breathed a sigh of relief as she slid them on to plates.
“Sandwiches are ready,” Elsa said with a smile and set the plates on the table. The boys had already grabbed some bowls and were distributing the chips and salad accordingly. The blond nabbed some water from the fridge as well as some juice too. She wasn’t sure which Robin preferred. She set them on the table and then took a seat.
“Hopefully it tastes good and I didn’t inadvertently just poison everyone…” She trailed off with a sheepish smile.
Qrow and Robin had just finished pouring the salad and chips into the bowls when Elsa announced the grilled cheese was ready. "Good, I'm starving," Qrow said and once everything was all set, he sat down at the table.
"I'm sure it tastes good," he reassured Elsa but leaned close to Robin and jokingly whispered just loud enough for Elsa to hear. "Make sure you have 911 on speed dial." He leaned back and helped himself to some salad. He was probably going to get a smack on the arm for that, but he couldn't help but tease Elsa a little. "So what have you been up to, kiddo?" he asked Robin, speaking in his normal voice this time.
