Last night had been a slightly typical night for Margo and Butcher. Dinner before he had to work, and then her helping others close down Pandemonium before the two of them headed back to his place to finish out the night. She was honestly amazed that they had made it to the bedroom before passing out.
She wasn’t entirely sure what had woke her up, and Margo was happily drifting in the floaty area between sleep and wakefulness while curled up on Butcher. She was just starting to slip back to sleep when she heard a very familiar voice of a little girl and sat up, pulling the sheet up with her. She heard it again and cursed softly, hurriedly getting out of bed while throwing clothes towards the man on the bed.
“Get something on now. Sweats, boxers, I don’t fucking care, just put pants on,” she told him while yanking one of his t-shirts over her head and looking for her underwear at the same time. There was no way in fucking hell she was having Euphoria end up traumatized on her watch.
**
Butcher grumbled softly as Margo woke him up. He wasn’t good at being woken up, especially at this hour, especially after a long night of work and Margo. He had thought Margo understood that. Not that he was cross with her, not really. He didn’t think he could ever be cross with Margo. Well. He was sure he could be eventually, but since she had just gotten back to Madison Valley, it would take him some time to actually become irritable with her.
Too irritable with her, at least.
Before Butcher was able to grumble much longer at the woman scrambling out of his bed, he heard voices in the other room. Voices of people who were definitely not supposed to be there. Children’s voices. “What the fuck?” he asked, sitting up and suddenly wide awake. He reached for the pair of sweatpants Margo had thrown in his direction before standing up and pulling them on.
“Why are there children in my apartment?”
** “Because we live in Madison fucking Valley,” Margo said just as there was a tiny knock on the door. Followed by a rather forceful demand for ‘Mommy’ as the knock wiggled. “I swear to fucking God Euphoria, if you open that door, there will be no shopping for a week.” Yes, she just used curse words with her kid, Butcher.
There was an indignant huff, which Margo ignored as she put on a pair of Butcher’s boxers. “But Leo stole my phone!”
“Steal it back.” She opened the door and stared down at the five year old girl on the other side. “And who the fuck is Leo?”
“I’m Leo.” A boy a bit older than Euphoria, who could definitely pass as her brother, peeked into the room. “Hi Mom, Hi Dad. Why are we in the apartments?”
**
“Okay, yeah, that actually explains a lot,” Butcher said, as he slowly started to shake off his grogginess. He didn’t do well being woken up, especially being woken up after a long night and with children in his apartment. He wasn’t exactly sure he could handle unexplained children. Some children, yes, but the unexplained ones?
Not so much.
He arched an eyebrow as the boy child referred to the two of them as Mom and Dad “Oi, mate,” he said, eyeing the boy. “...I live in the apartments. Why are you in the apartments?” he asked.
Hey, at least he didn’t call Leo a cunt. Don’t put it past him, though.
He could see himself in Leo, though, and the fact that they were in Madison Valley? …he was accepting this better than he would have under normal circumstances. “Here,” he said, handing Leo his phone. “Give her back her phone and you can use this.”
** “Because it’s where I woke up,” Leo smarted back. “And I only took her phone because she wouldn’t tell me her name.”
“You’re lucky she can’t magic your head off,” Margo told him as pointed towards the door. “Now, both of you get out of this room so we can finish getting dressed.”
Because of course they had brats for children, which was proven by one pouting on her way out, and the other rolling his eyes as they left.
“We are getting so drunk when they go home.”
She heard the kids talking, and more yelling, and sighed. “Actually, I may see if I can snort my body weight in coke again.”
**
“Yes, well, it’s where we woke up, too, smartass,” he said, eyeing the small child for a moment. “Did stealing her phone get you her name? No. It caused her to yell at you and wake us up. Which is not a good thing.” He didn’t say anything else, though, because Margo was then shooing the kids out of the bedroom.
“Now that’s not fair. You need to save some of that coke for me.”
He moved to the closet and rummaged through his clothing. He pulled out pants and a shirt and proceeded to get dressed in something other than the sweatpants Margo had thrown at him. “Alcohol and drugs once the kids are gone. …it’s a date.”
Once dressed, he moved closer to Margo and kissed her quickly. Squeezing her ass for good measure. Before he could go much further, though, he heard his phone ding with a text and he sighed softly. Checking it, he eyed Margo. “Johanna says I have two daughters with her, too.”
**
“That’s not too bad. I’m sure someone is going to end up with a half dozen or more,” Margo said, looking to see where her phone had landed. “I should probably get back to the house and make sure that Eliot and Q aren’t having meltdowns.”
Because something like this was probably going to be enough to tip them over the edge.
“Do you want to keep the smartass with you for the day, or do you want me to take him with?” It helped that she hadn’t found a job yet, which meant she didn’t have to worry about finding a sitter.
**
“I’ll keep the smartass,” he said. “I don’t work until late, it should be no problem.” Should be. That wasn’t to say that it wouldn’t end up being a problem. But it wasn’t anything Butcher couldn’t handle. If he couldn’t handle a small child for a few hours, well. He would have to reevaluate a few things.
That wasn’t to say the kid wouldn’t come out of it cursing like a sailor. It was to be expected, really.
“You go check on Eliot and Quentin. I’ll be here if you need me.” He gave her a quick kiss, then eyed the door leading out into the main room for a moment. He’s got this.
