Who: Dan, Lucifer What: baking together Where: their house? (Dan’s and Chloe’s house?) When: Backdate to Relationship Confusion Warnings: just cuteness Status: g-doc
Dan texted Lucifer that he was just leaving work and the grocery store. It was family night, so he’d pick up pizza for himself, his husband, and their daughter. For whatever reason, Rory asked why the fuck they were acting weird and that she was going to stay at the Pack house. Strange, but Dan didn’t question why the half-angel did the things she did sometimes.
He walked into the door with two large pizzas and ingredients to make cookies. “Hey! I’m home with pizza, which I suggest we eat before it gets cold.” Dan removed his shoes and placed them in the closet, carrying everything into the kitchen.
“Are we eating and then baking or baking while we eat?”
Rory always seemed to have something that made her roll her eyes so Lucifer simply accepted it and went on with things. That didn’t mean he didn’t hug her and kiss her hair before letting her go do whatever it was she needed to do to feel better. He knew she’d come around again.
Pizza was not what Lucifer would call sustenance, but he put up with it for Trixie and Dan’s sake. Still he wrinkled his nose a little when he saw the boxes. “Hot or cold it make no difference,” he grumbled then smiled. “Whatever the lady recommends.”
Dan knew how Lucifer felt about pizza, which is why the dead human only picked it up for the house a couple times a month at the absolute most. But, occasionally he just wanted a couple slices of pizza and knew his daughter felt the same.
He sighed at Lucifer’s wrinkled nose and opened the box, before he plucked a piece of pepperoni off the pizza and held it out for Lucifer to eat, while they waited for their daughter. Lucifer, of course, was right about Rory. She’d come back in a day or two.
Lucifer snaked an arm around Daniel’s waist while he nipped the pepperoni from his fingers, but he leaned in for a kiss before eating the thing. He would never admit it out loud that he enjoyed pepperoni. What he would say was, “I still prefer a good charcuterie board.” Which contained sliced pepperoni but also cheese, other salami and fabulous olives.
“Trixie should be here soon,” he said as he went to get a bottle of wine. If he had to eat pizza he’d enjoy a nice merlot at the same time. “I’m very glad she isn’t acting as strangely as Rory.”
Dan returned the kiss and enjoyed the feel of Lucifer’s arm around his waist. He’d never expected to find this kind of happiness with Lucifer, but somehow he did. His head leaned against Lucifer briefly.
“I know you do. Why do you think I made one for our last date night?” Dan teased. “Give it a few years and I’m sure our monkey will behave as strangely as Rory.”
Daniel would have been the last person Lucifer thought to find himself with, based on their history together. They had started to get along, but the King of Hell was surprised to find how well he and Daniel got on, how well they worked. Lucifer would never complain about the happy surprise.
“I doubt it, actually.” He gave Daniel an unspoken question if he would like a glass of wine as well. “Trixie is used to our…proclivities. Rory has some preconceived notions based on what we are in her reality. Honestly, she needs to shed those from her expectations.”
Dan nodded at the unspoken wine question. While he preferred beer, the former detective didn’t mind a glass of wine with his partner. Besides, Lucifer always picked out delicious wine.
“True. I want Rory to be happy, but her expectations feels a bit much at times.” And, Dan really couldn’t figure out why Rory chose the Pack house and not like Linda’s. Speaking of. “Your sister invited us for family dinner this weekend.”
“I’m sorry if she gets overwhelming,” Lucifer said as he brought Daniel his wine. “Shall I have a talk with her?” To make up for his daughter’s behaviour, Lucifer kissed the side of his lover’s head. He’d take any reason to kiss Daniel, actually.
“Did she?” A genuine smile returned to his face. “We’ll have to attend. Do let her know.”
“No. I love Rory. She just needs to work through her feelings.” Dan smiled at the kiss, and squeezed Lucifer’s side. “Hopefully the space helps.”
“Of course I’ll let her know.” Dan loved Linda and thought of her as a good friend, not just because she was Lucifer’s sister.
Either Trixie was running late, not unlike a girl her age, or they were ready sooner than expected. Either way, Lucifer got that grin on his face that meant he was thinking things that weren’t PG-13.
He leaned in to grumble in Daniel’s ear. “It seems our beloved daughter can’t tell time.” Not that he looked at his watch to know for sure. “Shall we ensure she learns how by embarrassing her again?” Because it wouldn’t be the first time Trixie found them being amorous. Not full out X rating, but a solid R.
Dan groaned at the expression on Lucifer’s face, face palming, but also a touch turned on. He knew Luci well enough to know what the angel currently thought. Trixie probably lost track of time, honestly.
“Deal, but not the counter.” Mostly because some cookie ingredients were sitting there measured.
His arms wrapped around Lucifer’s neck, just as they heard the door. “Looks like our girl is home.” Dan offered a quick kiss with a promise for more later.
