Who: Matt and Eve What: They’re house shopping Where: A house for sale When: June 14 Warnings: low
“I have a good feeling of this place.” She said to Matt while they walked up toward the house. The house was a single-family home with definite curb appeal which was always a plus in Eve’s mind. Of course Matt probably didn’t really care what the outside looked like, but it was a nice added bonus.
She reached out to hold Matt’s hand while they walked. The realtor had said they’d be by in about thirty minute or so after they’d had a look around and Eve could appreciate that. She did not like high-pressure tactics.
Matt preferred that he and his girlfriend have a little time to look at the house without any added pressure. For him, he could live anywhere, although the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen preferred an open concept like his apartment back in New York City. The beautiful place he could only afford because nobody else wanted an apartment with a large flashing sign glowing into their apartment.
His hand grasped Eve’s. “So, what do you think of the outside?” He couldn’t make out colours, but he had a general idea of how it looked. “I rather like what I can see.” Matt carried his cane in the other hand. When the realtor eventually appeared, Matt would go back to his usual acting like he couldn’t see at all, but he didn’t feel the need to do so with Eve.
“It’s nice. I could see myself sitting out on the porch and yelling at the kids to stay off our lawn.” She was kidding about the last part, but it was nice. Eve wasn’t exactly a nature person, but it actually seemed pleasant. “The tree is nice for shade too and probably won’t be a pain in the ass for upkeep.” Of course, she was pretty sure they’d just hire someone to help with the lawn. They had enough money for that and the idea of mowing was not appealing to Eve at all.
“I’m excited to see how they staged the house. We should take bets now if there’s a Live Laugh Love sign somewhere inside.”
“So, I’m moving in with an old grouchy man?” Matt teased with a smirk. “I would say a hammock sounds nice, but I fear falling out of it.” He could see a porch swing, perhaps. “Maybe a porch swing?” The breeze felt nice and the shade and quiet pleased Matt.
He snorted. “My over-under is at least three of them. Sadly, I have to rely on you giving me an honest answer,” Matt teased, lightly smacking Eve’s butt. “We can hire someone to mow.” Matt couldn’t. Like, the noise would be a lot for him and he couldn’t really see grass.
"A hot old grouchy man." She corrected playfully.
Making it to the door, she put in the code they had been given and opened the door. She had to admit stepping into the space with Matt was a bit exhilarating. She had never done something like this before. Back home she never would. She took a second and took in a deep breath. Maybe it was a bit cliche, but it felt good and she was smiling. The little smack on her butt didn't hurt either.
"So far it feels like it's empty." She meant of ghosts. "You don't hear any mice yet do you?" She was semi kidding.
Matt snickered. “The hottest, obviously.’ He leaned over and kissed Eve’s neck.
He’d never househunted, given the whole living in Hell’s Kitchen thing. “The house definitely needs some airing out, but no, we seem to be rodent free.” A pause and then a nod. “Rodent free,” he repeated.
“So what do you think so far?” Matt took in what he could see. “No Live Laugh Love signs yet?” he joked.
“Surprisingly none so far.” And it was kind of helping the house do it for Eve, really.
She started to walk around the main floor. The kitchen was really nice, but she had to wonder - she glanced over at Matt. “How much do you cook?” She realized for some reason she didn’t know what yet and that was odd, despite them moving in together. “As in, how does two ovens do it for you?” She offered a playful smile.
“Well I’m obviously losing this wager,” Matt joked. Not that he cared. If it helped Eve like the house more he couldn’t complain.
“I don’t. Not much. I have a few foods I can make from muscle memory, but it’s hard to make out details with my sight.” He could try new ones, but he couldn’t see precisely to know if he grabbed a quarter teaspoon or half.
“So, I think it might be wasted on us.” Weird that they hadn’t spoken about this before.
“Or, hear me out… we get Paige to come over and bake us a bunch of delicious goodies. Two ovens, two times the treats.” She joked, but decided that maybe this wasn’t going to be the place they spent most of their time.
Since it was open concept Eve described the living room as best as she could. She thought she was getting better at describing things, but wanted to work more on it. Once they seemed to have explored the main floor, she paused at the stairs. "As much as I'm sure you want to explore the basement first, I hear there's a very spacious master bedroom." There were also two other rooms upstairs and Eve was hoping the walk in shower wasn't pathetic because she loved a good walk-in shower.
When they were almost at the top of the stairs when Eve cheekily added. "By the way, I was told there was some added sound proofing to the bedroom."
“I’m pretty sure if she’d let us, we would just pay her to cook for us…and Savannah.” Paige’s cookies were legendary. Savannah brought them to work on occasion to share with the firm. “Generally I do takeout.” Which struck him as odd that they hadn’t discussed this prior.
He listened and asked a few questions, but overall Eve’s ability to describe had become much better. Matt laughed. “You know me. The basement is where I’ll spend all of my time.” Hardly, although he’d probably set up a workout space.
“Well added sound proofing sounds good and not just so i can sleep in peace,” Matt joked back to his girlfriend. “You’ll have to let me know what you think about the bathroom.” Hell’s Devil liked spacious showers too.
Eve only needed to eat half of the time and she also often did take out. It was not a skill she had learned growing up. She was much better at mixing ingredients for spells than food. “There’s enough room for a king size bed, even though it looks like they have a queen right now. The bay window is nice.” She slowly headed to the bathroom even though her mind was preoccupied with what they could do with the bed in the room.
Eve waited until Matt was in the bathroom too before she spoke about the double vanity and then the shower. “Hmm.. now the real question is…”
She opened the shower door, stepped inside, but then reach out to take Matt by the hand and coax him inside too. It was suddenly very important to her that they both could fit comfortably in the shower together.
Matt felt confident he and Eve would be ordering a lot of takeout. “Well, as long as the spare room has enough space for a double or queen.” Sometimes he needed to be by himself to sleep and it had nothing to do with Eve.
“Double vanity is good.” Hell’s Devil stepped into the shower with his girlfriend and grinned. “Seems roomy enough for us.”
She didn’t feel the need to move just yet from where she was. She ran her index finger along his collar. “You really need to stop smiling like that. It’s very distracting.” Eve liked the distraction of course and this wasn’t the first time. His smirk was even worse and did things to Eve she hadn’t felt in a while.
Eve couldn’t quite help herself as she let her hands smooth over his chest, enjoying the feel of muscles under her touch.
Matt couldn’t help but laugh and smirk. She wouldn’t be the first person to remark on his smile, not that he planned on saying so to Eve.
He leaned into the touch and caught Eve’s lips in a kiss. But pressed a finger to her lips. “Agent is just getting out of the car. So, as much as I want to continue this, I don’t really want to get that sort of rep while we’re house hunting.” After they owned the house? Matt planned on continuing what they started in the shower. Because those fingers on his body made him feel a lot of things.
Eve let out an exhaled sigh of disappointment. It seemed like this always happened just before things got good. She let herself lean against him for just a moment, eyes closed, before she willed herself back up to a more ‘appropriate’ position. “Rain check it is.” Even though she was going to be a little more distracted now when the lady started explaining the house to them. She gave him one more look and licked her lips before she slipped out of the shower.
