Madison was not Manhattan. In some ways, that was good. There wasn't nearly as much ambient noise, for one thing. The endless serenade of sirens, car horns, shouting, loud music and gunfire made sleeping difficult when you had super-hearing. On the other hand, it sometimes felt like Hannah was in the middle of nowhere here. More people had lived in her high-rise apartment building than in all of Madison.
Well, maybe that was a slight exaggeration. But only just.
She also missed the seemingly-infinite number of stores, bars and restaurants available in New York City. When you added turnover of businesses to the mix, you could probably go out to eat for every meal, at a new place each time, and never run out of options. Ditto bars and stores. There were only so many options for either here in Madison. But staring at the walls of her apartment got old, too.
Her tryst with Lucifer at the orgy last month had been fun, but it had only emphasized how infrequently she was getting laid here, as opposed to back in Manhattan. Another--more damning--strike against this tiny town. Which is what brought Hannah to the Den this Sunday evening. She wasn't the only one. The place was quite busy. It was crowded, loud, and reminded Hannah of places in Manhattan that she'd visited. She liked that.
Hannah took a seat at the main stage, and ordered several shots to start. She cheered on the first couple of dancers, made suggestive comments and ogled them blatantly, and generally behaved like she was part of a bachelorette party. But she tipped them very well. She sat up and took notice when the next guy walked out and started his routine. It didn't seem routine. There was a lot of energy in his performance, a hard, sharp-edged rawness that made her think he was working something out as he danced.
Well, so was she. "Whoohooo!" she shouted. "Take it off!"
