Sk8tergirl Coming Thru! Who: George Lass and Xavier Plimpton What: Match-Up When: Friday, June 16 Where: In the Street Warnings: None Yet Status:
Skating had become a more expensive hobby than George had expected. She'd started with a fairly standard board, but she'd soon replaced it with a longboard. Alyssa liked doing tricks on her board, but George had found that she liked being able to get around Madison on it more than doing tricks, and a longboard suited her better. So that was two boards, plus helmet and pads, and replacing wheels occasionally, and...
But she liked skateboarding a lot. She'd been an active and athletic girl when she was young, before she'd gotten bored with school and started feeling too cool to keep it up. Skateboarding took her back to that time in her life. It took more effort than it looked like, and required strength and balance. And she liked learning to do it. She'd looked at Google to learn a couple of things, and ended up falling down the rabbit hole for an entire evening.
Now she was carving her way down a street in so-called "downtown" Madison. She'd been at it for a couple of hours now, uphill and down, and along the many flat streets in Madison. She spotted a convenience store ahead, and decided to stop for a cold drink. She glanced over her shoulder to check traffic, then swooped right across the street and into the parking lot of the store.
She stopped and kicked her board up to grab it, then pulled the door open--and nearly ran into someone exiting the store. "Sorry," she said, before adding, "Hey! I know you!"
