Who: Finn and Rey What: A friendly talk When: After Beltane, May 1 (Backdated) Where: Their House Rating: low
Finn had gone to that orgy. That place where the people had sex all together, he’d gone with Poe. Only thing was, he’d come home without Poe. And in a foul mood. Poe had suggested an orgy wasn’t the right place for a first time, but he stayed and had sex with some random ass stranger? That apparently was the right time? Finn was aggressively making coffee that night. Trying to take his mind off the events that had just occurred.
A bag of coffee grounds flew everywhere when he struggled to open it. “Kriffing hell.” He grumbled under his breath as the black stuff flew at his feet. Poe obviously didn’t give a damn how he felt about things. Once he’d realized what it was and what Poe was staying for, he only got angrier. With no outlet to take it out on, he was struggling. He had been in general since arrival, not sure what to do with himself. Only that he had a lot of time to think on things, but not enough time to speak on them.
–
It was easy to hear the commotion even if BB-8 hadn’t come into her room to wake her. She had waited in silence for a moment or two and just listened as she tried to get the general sense of what was happening. When it was obvious it was just Finn out there and something was wrong, she emerged from her room and made her way down toward the kitchen.
Her eyes went to Finn, then down to the floor where she saw the coffee grounds, and then back to him. “Can’t sleep?” She didn’t actually think this was the issue, but she asked it anyway as she reached for a broom.
– “Nope.” He looked up at her with an irritated look. Though it wasn’t really directed at her. She hadn’t done anything. “Poe went to that…orgy thing.” Finn was not looking forward to hearing all about it. “Dragged me out to it only to tell me to go home.” Like some kid. Dismissed. It was equal parts embarrassing as maddening. The guy hadn’t even hesitated to go fuck some stranger.
Now that Finn knew what that was, he didn’t like it. “It’s all meaningless.” He saw her reach for the broom and frowned. “I got it.” He had made the mess of things. She wasn’t there to pick up after him no matter how irritated he was. She didn’t have to do that.
–
She held out the broom to let him take it. She knew better than to argue with him over something like that. Rey was learning to pick her battles which she probably could have used a little earlier on back home.
“Is it that he brought you to an orgy, that he sent you home, or that he’s participated in it that’s bothering you?”
Orgies weren’t really Rey’s thing, but then again, Belphegor had left Rey with a lot of baggage when it came to the bedroom and Xander had had to be very patient with her.
– He didn’t want his friend to think that he thought she was there just to take care of them, and he was plenty able to take care of the stupid coffee himself. Well, at least cleaning it. He really didn’t know how to actually prepare it. But he was going to attempt before all that happened. Finn carefully swept up the grounds while stewing in his own anger before Rey’s question cut through it like a knife. Direct and to the point. He always had appreciated that about her, until ust then when he had to actually think about the things he was feeling. He wasn’t good at that part.
He hesitated before looking up and making a face. “...That he stayed. It’s…” He didn’t have a word for it. Tacky? Gross? Sort of not great? All of the above? Yes.
–
She leaned against a part of the empty wall as she watched him work through what he was trying to say. He was obviously upset and she didn’t like the idea that her good friend was troubled - especially since he was still figuring out this place having just arrived. Finally she pushed off the wall and walked over to make coffee for the both of them while Finn finished cleaning up.
“Sleeping with other people indiscriminately isn’t everyone’s choice… but Poe’s old enough to decide if he wants to or not. Which isn’t me saying you have to be okay with it -” She looked over the Finn briefly before going back to making coffee. “But people cope with this place differently and maybe he just wanted to feel in control for a little bit.”
–
He finished cleaning up the coffee he’d spilled everywhere and set the broom back in the corner with annoyance. “I’m not okay with it.” Obviously. That much was clear, but what wasn’t was the why he cared? Not even he had the answer to that. He could only look over at the coffee she was preparing with a frustrated sigh.
“It’s ridiculous. This entire place is. I have no idea what the hell I’m doing.” He admitted. Not only was he annoyed with Poe, but with just everything in general.
–
Rey’s expression softened and she pressed the button for the machine to make the coffee, then made her way toward Finn. She gestured for him to sit at the table and then took a seat herself. “Sounds like maybe you have a lot going on about trying to figure out this place and it’s frustrating Poe seems to have just settled in seamlessly.” She didn’t think that was the case, but it probably looked or felt like that.
“What would you do if the war was over back home?”
– That was certainly a part of it. Finn had no idea what the hell to do with himself, and Poe was just out there making friends like it was easy. He’d never been put in a position where he had to find his own, Rey had come to him by situation. He was glad for it, but it left him without a clue how to fit in. “I never thought of an after.” He looked over at the coffee, a bit less angry and more so resigned. “I don’t know. All I thought of was leaving the Order. I did that..I didn’t really have the option to think of the after. What would you do?” He only really had some skills in that regard that applied to the world they were in. He was very much a fish out of space water.
–
She nodded. She got that. She hadn't either for a while and it was only a spur of the moment sort of decision that had her going back to the Skywalker farm.
"You don't need to have an answer, you know. Putting so much pressure on yourself will be exhausting. I think you start by just being yourself here and going to events and meet people. There are a lot of people here out of their element. It took me over a year to make my first real friend who wasn't from home."
– “A year?” Was it really going to take that long? …Probably. Neither of them were particularly great at people-ing. They’d fit together well for those reasons actually. Finn couldn’t help but feel entirely overwhelmed by things and just sat down on the floor for a moment. “If I just stay here will it go away?” He gave her a sort of strained smile. Though he knew it wasn’t that easy. His back leaned up against one of the cabinets near by, he just decided the floor was where he was going to stay for a while.
“Not the biggest fan of this place..gotta say.”
–
She understood how he felt, but she no longer felt like that. For a long time she hadn’t felt like she had a place here. Sure, people were nice to her and there were those who would come up to her excitedly because of the stories they had seen or read about her, but it was only after meeting Xander did Madison start to ‘grow’ on her.
“At least Poe and I are here? And BB-8, R2D2… even Anakin, who you’ll come to like, I’m sure.” He wasn’t Darth Vadar yet, after all. “But I don’t think you need to try to fake it either… just be open to trying new things… can you promise me you’ll try that?”
– “Feel more like crawling under the sink and never coming out.” He frowned as he leaned his arms on his knees. Probably looking a bit childish just then, but he felt like it too. Or he imagined this was what being a child must have felt like. “Yeah. About the only things that don’t suck.” A half smile at that as he 5
“I get the feeling that guy was just mocking me.” He rolled his eyes. Finn didn’t really know much about Anakin, except the vibe he got wasn’t fantastic. So, he shrugged. He was willing to try again with Anakin, but he had no real feeling on the guy yet either way beyond that. Then she asked him to try, and he closed his eyes for a moment and took a short breath in. “I’ll try. “ He made a little room on the floor though if she did decide to join him.
–
She went to make the coffee first, thinking about Anakin for a moment, once she had two mugs she handed one to Finn and joined him on the ground. She let herself take a sip of the hot liquid before she spoke. “We should probably talk about him for a second… it’ll make more sense when I explain.” That he was Darth Vadar was important so knowing he had a short fuse was good. “Then maybe I can tell you some of the things I like to do here.”
