Sometimes Melissa did think about her life back in Beacon, but it was mostly to do with the people from their family that hadn't shown up yet. So, when she noticed that Derek had arrived, the first thing she wanted to do was make sure he felt welcome. After all, he had been a good friend to her son and for her, that meant everything in the world. Her first step in this direction was to invite him out for coffee so that they could catch up. Now that her foot was better it would be easier for her to get around on her own since she didn't want anyone having to help her any more than they already had. She knew that sometimes she would have to depend on others, but for the most part, she was a very self-sufficient woman....and honestly, she liked it that way. She was glad to be spending some time with Derek, so she might have been in more of a rush than usual to get there. She was dressed and ready a full 2 hours before they were supposed to meet, so she decided to walk there and take in some of the nicer weather. As she made her way along the sidewalk, she smiled at the people she was passing. It was just in her nature to be friendly and honestly, she was in a good mood. It was just nice to be out of the house again, but more than that to be doing something she enjoyed so much....spending time with a friend. Even walking didn't help her out much, because she still walked through the door a full hour ahead of schedule. So, she decided to just order herself a tea and enjoy some quality people-watching while she waited. After she had made her purchase at the counter, she found a table with a good view of the door and made herself comfortable. Hopefully, she wouldn't have to wait long, and even if she did it was still nice to just be out and about again. ________________________________________ The man hadn’t been himself since he got here. It was weird, but he felt completely out of place. This wasn't something new to Derek. He wasn't necessarily the most outgoing and personable person ever. But with the people that he knew, yeah he was good. Still, he was adjusting and trying to fix this. So, when Melissa reached out to him he didn't hesitate. Getting there was the fun part (not really), his wolf senses are what made it easier for him. Throwing a t-shirt over his head, Derek walked past the mirror without so much as a first glance. He wasn't trying to impress. He just wanted to get out there more and possibly find and make new friends. Melissa was the person to help him and more than likely encourage him. He was early, and Derek hated being late. Sometimes, when he was taking care of a much younger Eli he found himself late, but he was a teenager now and intent on spending as much time away from his old man as possible. Stepping into the coffee shop, Derek was hit with a few smells. Number one being the sweet, acidic and bitter smell of coffee. Ordering his own, Derek took it to the seat with him, sitting across from Melissa. "I'm early, but then again I don't have a kid to wrangle. Teenagers are a different story." —--------------------------------------- Melissa knew better than most that it could be hard for people to settle in here, especially when they were used to a more fast paced lifestyle. Yes, there were some crazy things that happened here, but they weren’t an all the time thing. So, anyone that was used to constantly dealing with some kind of conflict found themselves just waiting for the other shoe to drop. And if anyone fit that bill it would be Derek, so Melissa was bound and determined to help him settle in. She knew some of the stories about what he had been through, and if anyone deserves something better it was Derek. When he made his way over to the table she had chosen, she made sure to flash him a friendly smile. After all, she did consider him to be a close friend. He had been a good friend to her family, so for her he would always be someone that was in their life. She leaned back in her seat, making herself more comfortable now that she didn’t have to worry as much about watching the door for his arrival. If there was a threat of any kind, she knew that she could count on him to sense long before she would. But more than that, she also knew that he would protect her from whatever that threat may be. “Teenagers are certainly an entirely different breed” she replied, her own chuckle escaping her lips as her memory flashed back over the times she had dealt with Scott and Stiles and then later Isaac as well. “But I wouldn’t trade my time with those boys for anything in the world” she added, her tone turning softer and her eyes misting over slightly as she remembered some fond memories of her boys. |
