Who: Hope Adams (with Nita) and Eve What: Enjoying the Arts and Music Festival When: April 14 Where: Arts and Music Festival Rating: low
Hope was glad there was some day planning for the Art and Music Festival. It meant that she had somewhere to bring Nita that was new and hopefully exciting. There was only so much of play-places that she could handle in a week, but Hope still wanted to stimulate her growing 10 month old.
She had Nita out on the grass. Madison’s weather had been nice and it had been a month now since they’d seen any snow and Nita seemed to be enjoying the new discovery of grass. Whenever possible, they were encouraging her to explore on her own. She was so close to walking. At least in her and Karl’s opinion.
The only thing about a mobile baby was they didn’t have the same social decorum and so Nita walked right up to someone and started to touch their shoe.
“Nita!” Hope softly scolded, but in a loving way as she came toward her daughter and the stranger. “I’m sorry.” Hope reached down to scoop Nita up who protested just a little since she’d been interested in this new ‘thing’ she discovered.
Eve had never experienced an Arts and Music Festival before. Hence why she was so very excited to be here. While Eve didn’t possess any talents of her own, she did have a respect for people who did and she was eager to see what they had on display. The brunette was dressed in a pair of comfortable, but fashionable heels, jeans, and a nice top. She’d thrown a jacket over her bare shoulders because there was still a bit of a chill in the air. She really did miss L.A. weather.
The first woman had paused to skim over the program they’d provided to her when she caught sight of a baby standing in front of her. She was bending down to touch Eve’s shoe when a woman suddenly appeared and scooped her up. Even as the woman apologized, Eve was already waving it off. She loved children, especially babies.
“Oh, it’s okay. No worries,” Eve reassured her. “She’s welcome to touch my shoe anytime. She’s so cute.”
It was a relief that the woman in front of her hadn’t been someone who hated children. Hope had had a run in with a miserable lady a week ago. Some people just had a lot of hate in their souls, it seemed.
She smiled. “Thank you. I’m biased, but I agree. She’s just become a handful now that he’s mobile which is funny because when they aren’t you spend a lot of time wishing that they were and then they do and you wish they weren’t.” Parenting had a lot of paradoxes like that apparently.
Eve might not have been the best mother, but she didn’t hate children. She doted on Charlie and if Rory was younger, she would have easily spoiled her rotten. Instead, they went to bars together and pointed out who they would potentially hit on. Hey, bonding was bonding, right?
Eve offered a sympathetic smile. “Oh, I totally get it. I don’t know how many times Abel and Cain ended up in some kind of trouble once they were mobile. Of course their trouble usually involved things that could eat them.”
Hope wasn’t sure she heard the other woman correctly so she took a second to replay the names in her head. Neither names were common and to have two sons named that was probably even less common - or Hope would hope so anyway. It would be signing them up for failure, really.
“I’d say thankfully Nita doesn’t have that to worry about, but it is Madison Valley.” So anything was possible. “I’m Hope.”
Eve frowned. “Yes, weird things do happen here. Hopefully, they don’t involve large mammals looking for babies to snack on.” Or really humans in general. Abel and Cain had survived the animal attacks, but Eve did always wonder how much of that environment affected their development.
Hope introduced herself and Eve broke into a smile. “I’m Eve. It’s good to meet you and Nita.” She offered a small wave to the baby. Eve was always happy to meet new people. She liked making friends and talking to people about their lives. Their experiences. It always fascinated Eve.
Nita waved back - she’d been learning that and was at the stage where she liked seeing the reaction from other people. It always made Hope smile because she thought her daughter’s exuberance was adorable
“It’s nice to meet you.” She paused, but couldn't help her follow up. “I’m sorry if you get this a lot, but… if you’re children are Cain and Abel, does that happen to make you the Eve?” She hoped Eve would understand the question because Hope already felt weird asking it.
Obviously Eve thought Nita waving back was the cutest thing ever. Well, next to Charlie waving anyway. She would always be biased towards her nephew. Though, the gesture did remind Eve how much she wished she’d had a daughter. Then again, maybe it was best she ended up with boys given the rough environment of the early world.
Eve did understand the question. When she’d first arrived in L.A. and met Lucifer’s friends, they had also asked her if she was ‘the Eve.’ The brunette smiled and then nodded. “I am that Eve. Cain and Abel, the two biggest pains in the butts ever, are obviously my sons,” she replied, giving a small laugh.
“Wow.” Hope couldn’t stop the word coming out of her mouth, but then she felt stupid for saying it and gave an apologetic and sheepish smile. “Sorry. You’d think I wouldn’t find that surprising considering the world I’m from, but I guess I never stopped to consider that you could be real. Which is stupid since Lucifer’s my father and so if he and other demons mentioned in the Bible exist, everyone else could too.” Now she had to wonder more things though.
Eve looked shocked and anything else Hope said evaporated from her mind the instant those words left the other woman’s mouth. “You’re Lucifer’s daughter? Seriously? Oh my gosh! He totally didn’t tell me he had another one.”
Eve was under the impression Lucifer only had one daughter and it was with Chloe. “So, is Chloe your mom too?” It was a logical assumption seeing as Chloe was Lucifer’s true love even if they were not together in Madison Valley.
It was a weird experience having a Lucifer here. They weren’t related in the technical sense and yet she did feel a bit of a pull around him. She had no idea what her ‘real life’ relationship with her Lucifer would be back home other than the fact she was aware that he came to visit shortly after she had given birth.
Hope looked just a tad sheepish. “Well, technically it’s a different Lucifer. My mom is from my world.” And Indian, but she wasn’t super familiar with Chloe to know all of her heritage. “But Rory treats me like a sister and loves Nita like a niece which is nice…. You’re from their world then?”
An embarrassed expression crossed Eve’s features. “Oh, I didn’t even think of that,” she admitted with a light laugh. The brunette knew she really should have considered it given how this place worked, but in her mind, the only Lucifer was her Lucifer. She couldn’t even fathom the idea of another version of him existing. Well, until now. “I’m sorry. That was totally my bad.”
Eve wasn’t surprised to hear Rory treated Hope like a sister or that she doted on Nita. Rory had a good heart. “I’m not surprised to hear that. Rory is a kind person,” Eve replied. A lot like her mom and yes, Lucifer too. Even if a few people might be shocked to hear that.
At the question, Eve nodded. “I am from their world. Once I got to know them, I definitely didn’t regret bailing on Heaven.”
Hope waved it off. “I’m only getting used to it because I’ve been here for some time. Trust me. It takes a while to get your head around the whole ‘bunch of different worlds’ thing.” It wasn’t like in her world they talked about multiple realities. Ever.
“I can’t say anything for Heaven, but it’s nice to have people from home here. Especially people you like.” She had to assume Heaven was at least nice, right?
“The Dome took pity on me and brought me here with my husband. And my daughter, obviously, but technically I was pregnant with her at the time so we were a package deal.”
Eve looked curious. “How long have you been here?” Eve heard that some people had been trapped in this town for years. The brunette wasn’t sure how she would feel if she was trapped in this town for that long. For her, that would start to feel too much like heaven even if heaven was still nowhere near as entertaining as here.
The brunette nodded. “Oh, of course it is.” Heaven was nice. It was perfect in fact which was why Eve had to leave. Perfect got really boring after a while and having dealt with that environment for centuries, she was ready for a change of scenery.
“It’s good Nita has both her parents here too,” Eve replied. “I guess the Dome is nice sometimes.” Though Eve felt it was mostly random in what it did or who it decided to bring here. “At least, it was with us.”
“Since May of last year… Which is still kind of a mind trip. It’s sometimes weird how fast this place moves, but I think it’s because of all the stuff that happens here. Time seems to move more quickly when there’s chaos.” And Hope knew all about chaos as a half-demon of it. She glanced upwards and spoke again as if talking to some unseen force “Which isn’t me necessarily saying I want more invasions anytime soon thank you.” It was probably a little ironic that she, who took advantage of the chaos, didn’t want some, but things like the replicators put Nita in danger and her daughter trumped even her half-demon urges.
Nita started to fuss. It seemed as if now that she was more mobile, when either her or Karl decided to stop for ‘too long’ she took it as pure torture now. “I guess that’s the sign I need to keep going.” Hope offered an apologetic smile. “It was nice to meet you. Maybe we’ll run into each other again.” It was very likely considering everything. She couldn’t wait to tell Karl about meeting the Eve.
Eve enjoyed a little chaos, but she was in agreement with Hope. She would like to avoid chaos of the replicator variety again if possible. “Yeah, I’d like to skip the chaos of the invasion variety,” Eve agreed. “It was definitely not fun.” But all other kinds? Yes, Eve would be up for that. Of course Eve was not aware of all the craziness the Dome could throw at someone yet. She was still relatively new.
When Nita started to fuss, Eve knew it was time for the two to go. No doubt Nita wanted to be on the move again. “I definitely know that sign,” Eve replied and offered Hope a bright smile. “It was nice to meet you too. I’m sure we will definitely see each other around.” Eve gave the baby a little wave and turned, heading off to hopefully some trouble to get into. Well, not trouble, but at least a little excitement would be nice.
