Who: Ben (Soldier Boy) & Wynonna Earp What: Meeting Where: The Den When: Early this evening Warnings: not really Status: complete gdoc
Ben was incredibly curious about Wynonna. If the woman was actually similar to him, it would explain why Waverly actually got along with him. But, he found it hard to believe. He wasn't sure, but he thought he might have seen the woman around before, but he had never bothered to say hi or introduce himself. He left the apartments early that evening, so he wouldn't feel rushed when he got there. He lingered outside The Den to finish up his joint and then made his way inside. He was pretty sure that Waverly had said she was a waitress, but that didn't look to be the case when he found her hanging out by the door.
He made his way over to her and flashed his usual charming smile. "Hey, you're Wynonna, right? Waverly's sister?"
Wynonna was definitely not a waitress. She was a bouncer and she took her job very seriously. The dancers at the club deserved their safety and it wasn’t like she was a stranger to kicking ass. Having her sister also employed there was a bonus because it meant she could keep an eye on Waverly. It was impossible to miss that her sister was trying to hide how upset she was to be separated from Nicole, though Wynonna hadn’t confronted her about it yet. She knew from experience that it was best to let Waverly take the time to work through her feelings.
Keeping an eye on her sister meant that she was aware of Waverly’s friendship with the new dancer at The Den and she definitely wasn’t thrilled about it from what she’d seen of the guy. He was rough and there was an air of violence around him that Wynonna didn’t think her sister needed to be around. “That’s me,” she said, her expression impassive.
Nope. He didn’t see the resemblance at all. She was attractive, though Waverly was cuter, probably because she didn’t walk around with a scowl on her face. “It’s nice to meet you, too,” Ben replied just as roughly. Doc must have told her about him. “Are you always this pleasant, or just on days that end in y?” He added with a smug grin, his arms moving to fold across his chest. It was strange to see a woman in a position of power. Well, one that wasn’t a supe, that was.
Either way, it didn’t matter to him. He wasn’t looking to impress her or anything. Ben was just making an attempt to be friendly. “I saw your take down of the rowdy man a few days ago. That was pretty impressive, I must say.”
There were few things that could get Wynonna to smile. Mostly her daughter. She certainly wasn’t about to smile for some random guy. Especially not one with that kind of smug expression. “Only on days that end in Y,” she said with a deadpan tone. He was not funny or charming and she really couldn’t see what Waverly liked about him.
“Thanks,” she added. “Kicking ass is kind of the family legacy.” Being the Earp heir had a lot of downsides, a LOT, but Wynonna appreciated being able to take care of herself and Peacemaker was a hell of a weapon.
Wow. Ben was actually trying, for once, and this was the end result? What was the point? "Hmm, I see. That's a great legacy to have." Was he supposed to be afraid of that? Or, maybe impressed? He wasn't sure which, and he didn't give a fuck either. He just kept standing there, staring down at her in awe.
"You know, I'm having a hard time believing that you and Waverly are actually sisters. Is one of you adopted, or maybe different sets of parents? I just can't see how someone so sweet and bubbly could be related to a bitch like you."
“Waverly is one of a kind,” Wynonna said. She didn’t take offense to being called a bitch, it was hardly the worst thing she was ever called and it was accurate. “She’s very special.” Too special for the likes of him, as far as she was concerned, though for the moment she was going to keep that opinion to herself.
Her sister had a tendency to see the best in people which was something of an admirable trait, though Wynonna felt like it also got Waverly in trouble. Too many people were willing to take advantage of someone who was kind like that.
“You know what? I completely agree with you on that. “She is one of a kind and very special,” Ben replied honestly, a fond smile appearing on his face at the thought of her. He was sure that Wynonna was being overly protective of her sister, and he couldn’t really blame her. “We’re just friends.” Of course, he was more than happy to upgrade to friends with benefits, but that wasn’t something he was stupid enough to reveal.
He glanced over his shoulder to see if she was at the bar, but he didn’t see her there. “Is that old dude your boyfriend? Doc?”
Wynonna didn’t miss the fond smile. Waverly tended to have that effect on people. At least this guy was just a friend, at least for now. Her sister was still mourning not having Nicole here. That would probably change, eventually, and it wasn’t like Waverly had the best taste in men. Maybe she’d meet another nice girl here.
“No, he’s not,” she said. It wasn’t like she could argue the point that Doc was old, especially since he was a lot older than Ben probably knew. “We’ve hooked up, obviously. He’s my daughter’s father and we’re co-parenting.”
He didn’t really give a shit about Doc and Wynonna one way or the other. Ben was just trying to be polite and make idle conversation. Which was easier said than done, he was learning. “That’s fantastic. Good for you.” What exactly co-parenting meant was beyond him, and he wasn’t going to ask. He came from a time when unwed mothers were few and far between. Once a baby was in the picture, a couple would get married regardless of how they felt about one another.
“She’s really cute, by the way. Your daughter, I mean. Alice, I think… Always wanted some of my own, but I don’t think that’s going to happen at this point.”
Biting back the urge to ask exactly how he knew that her daughter was cute, Wynonna was surprised when he said he wanted kids of his own. That was unexpected and gave her a tiny glimpse into why Waverly might be friends with this guy. “Well, if you ever get the urge for a sleepless night and cleaning up puke and shit, give me a call and you can babysit.” Okay, she probably wouldn’t actually trust him with her daughter, but that wasn’t anything to do with him. There were very few people she trusted that way.
Wynonna did give him a brief smile though. Talking about Alice could do that.
"I've already got sleepless nights, but I'll pass on the babysitting. Do men do that shit now? First they are walking around with the baby strapped to their chest, as if their arms are fucking broken, and now you're telling me it's not just a woman's job to look after kids. Unfuckingbelievable," Ben shook his head vigorously.
"Anyway, I should probably head backstage. It was great talking to you." Not really, but it wasn't awful.
What year was this douche from? Wynonna gritted her teeth and refrained from unleashing a tirade against his misogyny. He definitely needed to watch his step around her sister. “Have fun tonight,” she said, giving him a small wave.
