Who: Alec and Mary What: Alec is being pranked and goes to Mary for help When: April 1st Where: Mary’s place Rating: Low Status: Closed; Completed Gdoc
Alec normally liked a good prank. Or rather, he was definitely one of those people who liked doing pranks, but didn’t appreciate them being done to him. Maybe it was the reason why the Dome picked him as a target, but Alec wasn’t exactly in the right headspace to make that connection. Plus he’d still say it was entirely unfair if it was the reason.
He knocked on Mary’s door. Currently Alec had bright pink hair, feathers on his shoulders and back where he’d been hit with glue and then feathers, and his phone was superglued to his hand… again. He was definitely a sight to see.
Lucky for Alec, Mary was home from work. When she heard the knock, Mary frowned and set down the magazine she’d been idly flipping through. It was her day off so the blond was in a pair of leggings, a baggy sweater, and slippers as she made her way to the door. Her hair was up in a messy bun and she was wearing no makeup.
The blond was not expecting company nor had she heard from Alec. Peering through the peephole, Mary almost had to do a double take. “What the hell?” Frowning, Mary quickly unlocked the door and pulled it open. Her blue eyes shifted over his form.
“Alec…what the hell happened?” He stood before her with pink hair and wings. “Why the hell do you have pink hair and wings?” Her first thought was it had to be the Dome or else he’d succeeded in pissing someone off with magic capabilities.
Alec looked miserable and was basically pouting when she opened the door as if to silently say ‘please shoot me’. He was definitely glad that he hadn’t run into Dean or Lorna on the way here. While both would have had different reactions, they were both unappealing to him at the moment.
“I have no idea. I woke up and took a shower and if I had a roommate, I’d swear he put hair dye in my shampoo. And then in the elevator I was just minding my own business and then bam - glue and feathers. Not to mention literally every time I pick up the phone -” He held up his hand. His fingers were clearly not around his phone and yet the phone was stuck to his palm. “ - it’s superglued.”
Mary had to admit it was difficult not to laugh. He looked ridiculous. However, she pitied him far more than she found the situation amusing. Plus, if the roles were reversed, Mary knew she would look and feel just as miserable as Alec did right now. She wouldn’t want someone poking fun at her right now either.
The blond stepped aside and gestured for him to come in. “It sounds like a Dome thing,” Mary commented once he was inside and the door was closed behind him. “I mean we could try and maybe fix it.” Mary wasn’t sure it was the best idea given it was probably Dome related, but she was at a loss as to what else to do. Who knew how long this would last?
Mary was probably the only one who could laugh at him and he’d take it. Okay, sure, he’d have taken it from Lorna too, but he'd say it was because Lorna had a cute kid… not that he’d admit Dawn was cute.
Alec went to walk in the door, but where it had once been normal and empty, he now ran into a wall of plastic wrap. His face smooshed against the plastic cling wrap and he stumbled back, only to watch the damn thing disappear a second later. Ugh. Alec reached out with his hand first and cautiously stepped through the door. “Maybe I’m putting you at danger by being here…” Maybe he should go?
“Alec-” Mary broke off when his face seemed to smash against a layer of plastic cling wrap that Mary knew wasn’t there before. He stumbled back and Mary reached to steady him with a hand on his arm. What the hell was going on? Was the Dome pulling pranks on the residents? It was slowly starting to feel that way. Damn.
Alec reached out with a hand first and when he was met with no resistance, he finally stepped inside. Mary reached around to shut the door behind him and shook her head. “Even if you are, I don’t care. I’m not going to back off just because the Dome is fucking with us.” She straightened, touching his face, and giving him a determined smile. “You’re stuck with me. About as stuck as that cellphone is to your hand.”
He snorted. Okay, so that was funny. He did appreciate it though. There had been a time in his life where he’d have ghosted someone for less than the ‘issues’ he had now. Thankfully he knew this was temporary though otherwise he’d probably go literally insane. “Thankfully I’ve been here long enough to understand it’s April Fools day… though the Dome better not be planning to have ‘April Fools weekend’ or something.” He’d probably ask Mary to just knock him unconscious if that was the case.
“I passed like six people who had wet paint on them from sitting on benches… I’m planning on avoiding food until midnight.”
Mary was pleased he appreciated the weak joke, but she meant every word. They were in this situation together. Still, Mary hoped it wouldn’t last the entire weekend. She couldn’t imagine Alec functioning well for two days in the state he was in. Of course, knowing him, he’d ask her to just knock him out till it was all over.
“I really hope it isn’t the weekend,” Mary replied. “Just you dealing with this-” Mary gestured at his pink hair and wings. “Is a lot to deal with for a day.” And honestly, Mary wasn’t sure how Alec was going to make it through the day.
Wet paint? Okay, the thought of that earned a weak chuckle from Mary. She quickly cleared her throat. “So no benches and no eating anything until midnight. I think we can handle the first, but the second might be difficult.”
“The food thing doesn’t bother me. Manticore trained us so we can go at least 7 weeks without food, so a handful of hours isn’t going to break me.” Was he used to most frequent and delicious meals? Yes. But his training wouldn’t leave him anytime soon.
He moved to a seat and while normally he’d just sit down, today he started to examine the chair thoroughly like maybe there was a bomb under it or something. Once he was satisfied it seemed normal, he sat down…
Only for it to suddenly fall away. One of the legs had been ‘tampered’ with and it had snapped once he sat.
Alec sighed as he lay on the floor. “Maybe I’ll just stay here.”
Mary nodded. “It won’t be enjoyable, but at least you can handle it.” Mary made a mental note not to eat in front of Alec while he was here. That would just be cruel and Alec was already dealing with enough crap right now. Seeing her eat and him not being able to would just twist that knife in deeper.
Mary watched him examine the chair thoroughly. Any other day, she would have liked fun at him for being so paranoid, but now? She honestly couldn’t blame him. When he took a seat, Mary opened her mouth to say something, but the words died on her tongue the moment the leg of the chair snapped like a twig. Alec crashed to the floor with a thud and Mary moved to kneel beside him.
“Alec,” Mary said, frowning. “Don’t say that. Are you okay? How about we try the couch or the bed?” Mary didn’t want him to sit on the floor. That was hardly comfortable and he was already so uncomfortable as it was.
Alec had obviously stayed in worse places. He did sit up with his arms holding him up from behind. He didn’t get up right away. Instead, he looked at Mary. The whole thing was pretty ridiculous.
“Are you sure you want to risk your furniture? I mean, maybe your bed turns into - I don’t know - a water bed or something and then suddenly we’re drowning in your bed.” Weirder things, after all.
Mary sighed and took a seat on the floor beside her boyfriend. Curling her legs to her chest, she rested her arms on her knees and looked over at him. “Alec, I would risk anything for you. Even my bed becoming a water bed and possibly drowning us in the process.” Because it would take more than a dose of Madison Valley craziness to keep Mary from being around Alec.
She reached out and touched his face. “We are in this together. Whatever happens, we stick together and face it. No matter what happens to my furniture in the process.”
This was definitely new for Alec. He looked at her a bit stunned for a moment, but then pushed off his hands to sit up more. He placed a hand on top of hers that was touching his face and then leaned in to give her a soft kiss - one people back home wouldn’t even know he was capable of. “How did I get this lucky?” He quite honestly didn’t know. There was really nothing in his life that would suggest he deserved it.
Mary knew that was unfamiliar territory for Alec. He wasn’t used to being serious in a relationship. Hell, he wasn’t used to relationships. Mary didn’t want to push him too hard, but every word she said was true. She wasn’t going to leave him alone to deal with whatever the Dome was putting him through. Why? Because she loved him. Maybe that was difficult for some people in Madison Valley to understand, but for Mary, it was perfectly clear.
She loved Alec and nothing and no one was going to keep her from being by his side. Not even fucking Dome shenanigans.
His hand came to rest on top of hers and Mary’s expression softened. She smiled as he leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. It was tender and sweet; everything people didn’t expect Alec to be. That was their loss and Mary’s incredible gain. She returned it just as softly, lips pressed to his until they both needed to breathe.
His question coaxed a playful smile from Mary and she leaned in, resting her head briefly against his own. “I like to think luck has nothing to do with it,” she replied softly. “But if it does, then I got pretty damn lucky too.”
Nope. This was never going to get old and Alec was pretty sure he’d still be a little shocked over this whole thing even if Mary decided to stick with him ‘forever’. He wasn’t complaining, of course. As long as Mary would have him, he’d stay and try not to mess it up.
Looking at her, Alec wanted to suggest they try her bed, but the idea of getting intimate and then the Dome throwing something at him was not a pleasant one. Instead he went with, “Want to try the couch?” Maybe the Dome would let them cuddle… even if Alec would never admit to anyone else he enjoyed cuddling.
