"Did you expect anything less?" Bilbo asked, offering Thorin a small smile. Yes, it was true that Bilbo and Thorin perhaps didn't get along in the beginning. Now, though, they got along quite well. Now, Bilbo knew what Thorin did and did not expect from him. They had mutual respect for each other, which may not have always been the case.
"I did not feel up to cooking," he explained. "Or asking you to cook. I picked up food from Homebrew. Ale as well." He started to unload the bags containing the food he had brought home with him. He had an idea of what foods Thorin enjoyed. After spending so long with him in Middle Earth, then living with him, it caused the Hobbit to get to know Thorin's likes and dislikes better.
"I met a new arrival to Madison Valley the other day," he said, as he moved to find plates and cutlery and glasses. "He is from Gondor. He calls himself Aragorn, son of Arathorn. He appeared to know me, though he said it was an older version of me. He is also familiar with a certain Gimli, son of Gloin."
