Who: Sharon and Madison What: Wedding dress shopping When: Late March Where: Bridal shoppe Warning: None Status: Completed via Gdoc
Sharon hadn’t had a ton of opportunities to be all fancy in a bridal shoppe before. She’d seen that kind of thing on shows like Say Yes to the Dress and movies and whatnot… but to actually be in a bridal boutique sipping on champagne and trying on wedding dresses? It was absolutely surreal. She had no idea what she wanted to have for her own dress. Actually, as girly as Sharon could be, she wasn’t that girly. Terms like Mermaid skirt and Princess waist were lost on her.
She was looking through the racks with Madison, holding a flute of champagne gingerly between her fingers. “Don’t you dare leave my side,” she said to her best friend. “I think the employees of this shop might eat me alive.”
To be fair, Madison had never been in a bridal shoppe before either. Like Sharon, she’d witnessed such places in the media and magazines, but never actually set foot in one. Madison thought it just as surreal and overwhelming as Sharon. However, the blond did her best to take it in stride, to not get swept up in the glamor and glitz this place aside from the glass of expensive champagne in her hand. Even if she’d never been a maid of honor before, Madison was already taking the role very seriously.
She glanced over at the rack at Sharon, a semi-serious expression on her face. However, there was amusement visible in the depths of her blue eyes. “I don’t know. I was thinking I’d go get my nails done and let you fend for yourself,” she teased. Madison would never leave Sharon’s side. Even if these salespeople were not actually going to eat Sharon alive, they were pushy and Madison didn’t want anyone talking Sharon into something she didn’t want.
After a moment, Madison broke into a reassuring grin and snorted. “Of course I’m not going to leave you. You need my wisdom to pick out the perfect dress.” The last part was said in jest.
“Don’t even Joke about that,” Sharon said, giving Madison a playful swat on her arm. “You’ve seen that woman with the bun at the front of the shop. She’s going to chew me up and spit me out, and I’ll be ten grand in debt over a slip of a dress that I’m going to wear once and then never look at again.” …well, the photos would be nice, anyway. Though, Sharon was pretty sure she didn’t want to spend ten grand on a dress.
“I absolutely need your wisdom. And your help drinking every glass of champagne that this place will throw at us.” She grinned, and lifted the flute in a toast. “Okay, so, what styles are we thinking?”
Madison laughed then quickly shook her head. “I’m not going to let you walk out of here with a ten thousand dollar dress. We can find you something nice for far less than that.” Because Sharon was right. Once she wore the dress, she’d never wear it again regardless of how nice the photos turned out.
Madison lifted her own glass of champagne. “I think the champagne actually increases the wisdom,” she added with a devious smirk and took a small sip. Okay, time to put that wisdom to use and find a style for Sharon.
“Well, do you want something that is more form-fitting or would you rather have some room to breathe? Also, are we thinking long train or not so much?” Madison thought trains could be rather tedious, but it was Sharon’s dress.
"Hopefully a lot less," Sharon said, grinning softly. She could see spending hundreds (maybe a bit more than a thousand?), on a dress, but definitely not ten thousand.
Sharon laughed at that. "Then we need much more wisdom," and she took a big gulp. The lady said they could have as much as they wanted. Sharon wasn't about to get drunk, but she liked the liquid courage.
"More form fitting, I think. And not a long train, but an elegant length. Does that make sense?"
“I’ll drink to that,” Madison agreed and took a large gulp from her glass. While Madison was typically confident when it came to shopping, she appreciated having access to an unlimited supply of alcohol right now. This wasn’t just any dress they were looking for. It was the dress Sharon would wear for one of the most important moments of her life. The blond didn’t want to mess that up for her best friend. Sharon deserved the best and Madison was determined to help her find it.
When Sharon specified what she was roughly looking for, Madison nodded. “I think so. There are trains that are not super long, but elegant. We can find that.” The blond shifted through a few more dresses then suddenly paused and held up a finger.
“Wait. Most important question. How much cleavage do you want to show? I’m thinking at least a little.” Obviously, Sharon didn’t have to be falling out of the top of the dress, but Madison thought a little tasteful cleavage would work for her friend.
Sharon glanced over at Madison as if that was a completely obvious question. “There has to be some cleavage. It’s my wedding day, not the day I’m shipped to a nunnery. And I want to make sure I look the most beautiful ever for Scott.” Her cheeks might have blushed at that. “But I’m also not a skank, so I want to keep it respectful.”
She moved to the next rack over and started to flip through the dresses in their plastic sleeves. “I think I want to be in White, too. I know it’s not completely proper, considering.” She hadn’t been worthy of a white dress since she was fairly young… but that was part of the look, wasn’t it? “But I don’t like the look of the cream and champagne ones. Let’s take a look in the back of the shop.”
Sharon was not at all sure what she would do without Madison by her side through the wedding planning. Because there were some things that Scott could do or help with, but wedding dress shopping was definitely not one of them.
