Sundays were usually pretty quiet in the O’Neill/Carter household. Sam didn’t have any regular classes at the gym and Jack wasn’t normally on the schedule at the marina. They tended to have lazy mornings, maybe picking up breakfast, and then spend the day as a family watching movies or playing board games. This weekend was an exception though. Sam had to cover a class for one of her colleagues and Jack had a special charter reservation that had requested him specifically so after a hurried breakfast, they had gone their separate ways. As much as Sam hated leaving their daughter home alone, she knew that Six was more than capable of taking care of herself and wouldn’t get into any trouble.
After her class, she decided to stop at the bakery and pick up a pie for her two sweets lovers. As she exited, she got a creepy feeling and stopped to look over her shoulder, shocked when she saw a familiar face there. A face that should not exist.
“Fifth,” she gasped.
“Samantha,” he replied, reaching out and grabbing her arm, making her lose her grip on the pie and sending it to the ground. “I have been waiting for this moment for so long.”
How was he here? And why? Sam figured the details didn’t matter, the important thing was neutralizing him. And fast, before he managed to create an army of replicators to take over Madison Valley. “What do you want, Fifth?” she asked, her tone weary.
“You, Samantha,” he said, dragging her away from the bakery. Oddly, the street was quiet and they only went about a half a block before Fifth ducked into an alley and led her into an abandoned building. Upon entering, she could see that he had clearly been here for a while and was suddenly struck by the realization that all of the issues with the power and internet recently were probably because of him.
Sam was mentally berating herself for being lulled into a false sense of security in this town and going out without a weapon. “Do you realize that you’re trapped in this town?” she asked. “There is nowhere to hide.”
Fifth shoved her into a dusty chair. “That will not be an issue,” he said. “I have been making plans.” That confirmed her thought that the issues over the past couple of months were due to Fifth and Sam knew that he likely wasn’t the only replicator around. This was going to be bad. So bad.
“When all is said and done, you will be with me, Samantha,” he said. “I will forgive your past transgressions and you will come to love me.”
The thought made Sam retch. “Never,” she said.
Fifth’s eyes suddenly narrowed and he moved over to her, grabbing her left hand and holding it up to his face. “What is this?” he demanded.
As much as Sam didn’t want to tell him, she knew that he would just stick his hand in her head and take what information he wanted. “I’m marrying Jack O’Neill,” she said.
It was clear Fifth didn’t like hearing that. “We shall see.”
