"This place is real, which means it doesn't only exist while Dorothy is having her adventure," Michelle said. "It has a past, a present and a future. Glinda might be around somewhere, but chances are Dorothy isn't around yet. Or still."
"The poppy field?" Michelle asked, surprised. "I'm not sure." She looked at the Munchkin. "Do you happen to know where the poppy field is?"
The Munchkin glowered at Ben, and didn't seem particularly fond of Michelle due to her proximity to Ben. But politeness won out over annoyance. He pointed. "A couple of hours' walk in that direction," he said. Then he gave Michelle's legs a good looking over. "Maybe an hour for you two."
She thanked him and then looked at Ben. "Questions of ownership aside, do you know how to extract opium from poppies? I don't. Also, they'll put us to sleep if we spend much time in the field."
