Who: Anna and Elsa What: Baking a cake Where: Their home When: Saturday Afternoon Warning: Low Status: Completed Gdoc
Anna was always happy to spend time with her sister. It was especially nice to get to bake with her. Today, they were attempting to make a chocolate cake, the kind that had the reflective mirror-like icing. It was sure to be a good time, if a bit messy.
She and Elsa always made it a point to make time for each other, even though they both had other obligations. Nothing would ever stop them from being there for each other. Now, they were there to make sure the kitchen was not destroyed. They could handle a cake, right?
"Have you thought about what kind of cake you'll have at your wedding?" she asked curiously as she began to mix ingredients.
Anna was so excited for her sister, and she couldn't help asking about the event.
Ever since attending Nora’s wedding, Elsa was thinking more and more about her own wedding. These thoughts did include the cake. Given both she and her sister loved sweets, particularly chocolate, it was not surprising that for Elsa, the cake would play a prominent role in her wedding.
“I was thinking the cake would be chocolate. I know. Big surprise, right?” Elsa replied, giving a small laugh. “I wouldn’t be opposed to it having a filling or there being other desserts available for those that don’t like chocolate.” She knew Qrow wasn’t the biggest fan of chocolate. He would eat it, but he didn’t love it the way Anna and Elsa did.
Elsa’s gaze shifted back to the directions. The mirror-like icing was going to be tricky, but she felt like her and Anna could handle it. And hopefully not destroy the kitchen in the process.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about my wedding ever since Nora got married,” Elsa added after a moment. It made her nervous as well as excited when she thought about marrying Qrow. It was a step she never thought she would take in her life. Marriage always felt like it belonged in someone else’s dream, not hers. Of course, she was happy to be marrying Qrow because she loved him, but that didn’t stop her from feeling just a bit scared at the prospect.
“Can I tell you a secret?” Anna asked, a giddy look in her eyes. “I’ve been thinking about your wedding since you got engaged.”
She couldn’t wait for Elsa to get to experience such a joyous occasion. Maybe Elsa didn’t feel like this was something that was meant for her, but Anna believed she deserved every bit of happiness that others got to experience.
“I’m just so happy for you, Elsa. I can’t help it.” It was true.
“Also, you could do both. That’s what me and Kristoff did.” He shared Qrow’s view of chocolate most of the time.
With that giddy look in her eyes and the way she admitted to thinking about Elsa’s wedding, the blond couldn’t help the warmth that flooded her heart. It was so like Anna to do something so sweet and generous, especially for Elsa. It honestly almost brought a tear to Elsa’s eye, but she quickly took a deep breath. Tears were not part of the recipe and this was a happy moment. She didn’t want to spoil it by crying.
“Anna. Can I say that it doesn’t surprise me at all?” Elsa replied with a teasing smile. She carefully wrapped an arm around the redhead’s shoulders and drew her close for a brief hug. She didn’t want to accidentally upset the bowl of batter, but Anna deserved that hug and so much more.
“I appreciate it so much. You know me. I’m always nervous about these kinds of things. I mean I’m super excited too, but I always worry that somehow, some way, things will go wrong.” Because it was Elsa and when she was involved, Elsa couldn’t help, but feel things tended to go sideways a lot.
Elsa perked up when Anna said that her and Kristoff did both. “Then I think that is what Qrow and I will do too. That way everyone gets what they want and no one is left out.”
Anna appreciated the hug. She loved hugs, especially from the people she cared most about. A hug was worth any potential batter bowl accident. Thankfully, that didn’t happen this time.
“If anything goes wrong, we will get through it. We’ll always make it work.” They tended to do that even back home. Things might have gone sideways at times, but they always fixed it. “Remember when my wedding venue got flooded from broken pipes? You were there helping to calm me down.”
Anna would return the favor.
“There isn’t anything that can’t be solved…starting with the choice of cake.”
Elsa smiled. Of course her sister was right. When things went haywire, the two sisters were always there for one another. To give each other strength and support. If Elsa’s control became shaky, Anna would be there to give her the confidence to steady herself once more. Just like Elsa had done to her when the water pipes busted at her venue.
“I know. If something goes wrong, you’ll be there to help me,” Elsa replied. “We always help each other out. It’s what sisters do.” And Anna was right. There was no problem, no issue, that they couldn’t figure out, especially with cake involved.
“Then we’ll go with chocolate cake and have extra desserts of all kinds for people that don’t like chocolate. Or we can have a marble cake.”
Anna smiled, happy to have a wonderful sister like Elsa. She was blessed in that way. They were each other’s support system before anyone else was in the picture, and that wouldn’t change. Now, they had an expanded family that included Kristoff and Qrow.
“Oh wonderful!” she said with a little clap. “Marble cake would be a lovely compromise!”
At the moment, she was making a little bit of a mess, getting powder on her face. “But maybe we should leave that one to the professionals.”
Elsa felt like the lucky one. Without Anna in her life, she was positive she would still be living in an ice castle at the top of that mountain. She would still be too scared to live her life. Anna showed Elsa that it was okay to be herself, to make mistakes, because no one was perfect. Her sister had changed her heart with her incredible capacity to love and it was a gift Elsa wasn’t ever sure she would be able to repay.
When Anna clapped, a cloud of powder erupted from her hands. The blond laughed, more than okay with powder coating her as well as the kitchen surfaces. They would clean it up afterwards. It wouldn’t be baking with her sister if they didn’t make a mess and it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun.
Elsa grabbed a towel and gently brushed some of the powder from Anna’s face. “Yeah, I think we should too,” she replied, still smiling. “But we can make other things for the wedding.” She stepped back and set the towel on the counter.
“I think we can put the batter in the pan. It looks pretty smooth.”
Anna didn’t care about the mess so much either. She believed the messier it was, the more fun the process had been. Baking was something they loved, and there was a calming aspect to it in some ways.
“I think so, too,” she added, regarding the smoothness. “It looks great so far.”
Maybe because they worked on it together. “See that, we always work things out.”
Baking with Anna was always a calming experience for Elsa. The two of them participating in an activity they both loved was comforting and a chance for them to deepen the sisterly bond they shared. Plus, it gave them the opportunity to talk and Elsa enjoyed that the most.
Elsa placed the pan on the counter beneath the bowl Anna held. “It does. You did a great job mixing those ingredients. I don’t see a single bubble,” Elsa complimented. The more they baked together, the better they became.
The meaning behind her sister’s words was not lost on Elsa and she leaned over to press a kiss to her sister’s head. “You’re right, Anna. We always work things out.”
Anna smiled. “That we do. Like my mixing skills.”
She giggled slightly at her little joke. “Now, let’s see how this cake works out.”
Whether it turned out well didn’t matter so much as long as she got to do this with her sister.
