"The past is a different country," they say, and after several months living in the distant past, Charly could attest to that. Laughably primitive technology, a horrifying level of crime and poverty, and the murder of countless animals for food made it a trial sometimes. But in other ways, humans now were no different than in her time.
Alcohol, for instance. That hadn't changed. And neither had awkward social gatherings. Charly was prepared to be uncomfortable if necessary in hopes of making some new friends, and possibly finding people to date. But she was glad to have a glass of whiskey at hand all the same.
