Normally, Caroline didn't work late, but tonight was a rare exception. She had some paperwork to finish off for a transfer student and the vampire did not want to wait till morning. However, time had escaped her and next thing she knew, it was seven at night and she was still seated at her desk, staring at her computer screen. "Seriously, Caroline..." The blond trailed off, throwing on her coat and grabbing her purse. Locking up her office, the blond made her way to the exit, the sound of her heels echoing in the empty hall. Judging by the lack of heartbeats, Caroline had even managed to outlast the theatre club. That had to be a new record, right?
Stepping out into the cool night air, Caroline stuffed her hands into the pocket of her winter coat and started down the sidewalk. The town was small and sometimes the blond walked to work instead of driving. Because she unaffected by temperature change, Caroline could walk to work in the winter without any issues. Of course, if it was snowing, she preferred to drive, but when it was a clear, cold day? She was okay with hoofing it to the school.
As she started down main street, Caroline idly wondered if she should stop for a drink or maybe a hot chocolate. Part of her was tempted, but the other half of her knew she needed to suck on a blood bag and fast. While Caroline possessed apt control, she'd gone longer than six hours without blood. It wasn't exactly something you could store in the teacher's lounge after all. She needed to feed and while a drink would help with the cravings, it wouldn't stop the gnawing in her gut. No, she needed to get home, kick off these heels, and change into a pair of pajama pants while sucking on a blood bag and watching some trash television.
The vampire turned a corner and was relieved she was only a few blocks from her house. With the streets empty, it hadn't taken her as long as it normally would to travel this far.
