Who: Madison and Rory What: Drinks Where: The White Wyrm When: Friday night Warnings: Low Status: Completed Gdoc
Madison sank onto one of the empty bar stools at the White Wyrm and raised a hand to signal the bartender over. Tonight the witch was having drinks with Rory and she was looking forward to spending time with the other young woman. Sure, she had plenty to tell the angel and she was sure that Rory had a lot to tell her as well. How could she not given her father was the flipping devil? Of course, Madison hadn’t really seen anything on the network that pointed to her father making waves lately.
The witch sighed as someone closer caught the bartender’s attention on his way over to her. Seriously? Rolling her eyes, Madison dug out her phone from her purse and scrolled the network. It was probably for the best. This way Rory could order her drink when that dork of a bartender finally made his way over here.
Rory made her way to the Wyrm, happy to get a drink somewhere besides where she worked. While she didn’t care if she bought drinks for Madison, Rory preferred to do it away from The Electric Lady.
She entered the bar and noticed her gorgeous friend right away. Another version of Rory might have a crush on Madison, but this Rory preferred their friendship.
“Hey. I hope you haven’t been waiting long.” The half-angel took a seat next to her friend and finally the bartender made his way over to them and Rory ordered for both of them.
As soon as Rory settled on the barstool beside her, Madison feigned an annoyed look. “Yes, I’ve been waiting ages,” she replied. But then she was bumping her friend’s shoulder playfully and flashing the angel a reassuring smile. “You’re fine. In fact, I’d say your timing is perfect because the bartender just walked up.”
Sure enough, the bartender paused before the two girls and Rory ordered for both of them. Madison could have used her magic to ensure alcohol for herself, but given if the bartender resisted their head could explode, it was best to let Rory just place the order instead. An exploding head would draw attention and ruin their night. Two things Madison definitely did not want. Once their drinks were ordered and the bartender was busy preparing them, Madison turned to her friend. “So, how’s tricks?” She inquired with a devilish smile playing on her lips. “Anything crazy going on with you? I mean besides the usual.”
Rory returned her friend’s shoulder bump and wrinkled her nose at her jokingly. When the bartender took their orders and walked away, Rory grinned. “Always helpful when I do the ordering.” This way it wouldn’t be on Mads to use magic. Not that Rory knew her friend incapable, but more that it just simplified matters if Rory ordered.
She shook her head. “I wish. Nah, just navigating the new normal with my mom and Lucifer.” Rory might call Lucifer Dad to his face, but it still felt too weird to her to refer to him that way outside of her family. “He found out she’s dating someone else and it all went downhill quickly. Her boyfriend makes her happy and that’s what I want. I’m glad Lucifer is here. And I feel grateful we’re working on our relationship, but life seemed way less complicated before he arrived.”
The bartender placed their drinks in front of the two and wandered off to help someone else. Rory took a sip of her scotch. “I’m pretty boring. I go to work. I spend time with my family. How about you? Besides the fancy new fae boyfriend,” she teased.
“Unless you want to watch someone’s head explode, it’s probably for the best that we keep it that way.” Not that the bartender looked all that mentally fit or anything, but Madison didn’t want to risk it. Aside from Rory and a few select others, no one else knew Madison was a witch and she wanted to keep it that way for the moment. An exploding head would make waves as well as make it blatantly clear she wasn’t just another pretty face.
Madison made a face. “Yikes. I so bet you are putting that nicely.” She couldn’t imagine the devil being okay with someone else dating the person he loved. Then again, Madison had only talked to Rory’s dad a few times and they’d never met in person. Madison had met Lucifer, but it was back in the hell in her own world. Surprisingly, the two were actually very different from one another.
“To be fair, I can’t imagine anything involving Lucifer not being complicated.” Madison’s blue eyes shifted to the bartender, offering a smile as their drinks were set before them before he wandered off to serve someone else. Following her friend’s lead, Madison took a sip from her own drink.
At Rory’s response, Madison shook her head. “You’re not boring. Though we do need to get you a girlfriend so we can all double date,” the witch teased before sneaking another sip from her glass. Sure, Madison joked, but she found she actually liked the idea more than she expected. “And not much for me to report. Rhys is the highlight pretty much. Otherwise it is just school.”
Rory didn’t think their evening should involve an exploding head, or multiples. At the face Madison made, the half-angel laughed. “I’m definitely putting it nicely. Trixie is team Lucifer. I’m on team ‘as long as everyone is happy’. My sister remembers Lucifer and our mom happy together. I don’t have these memories, so I don’t feel like I have skin in the game. Hell, half the time Trixie’s dad feels more like a dad to me than Lucifer.” Another sip of her drink. “I know he thinks his leaving makes perfect sense, but it’s still hard to forgive a guy who disappears for…your entire life. So, while I totally understand his disappointment that Mom is dating someone else, I don’t necessarily blame her. I mean, this is what? The third time he’s been here in the last few years.”
Based on the Lucifer who kidnapped her mom and what Sabrina and Hope told Rory, she wouldn’t be surprised to know her dad differed from other versions of Lucifer. “I’d be down for a double date if I meet someone. There’s a girl I kind of like, but I think she’s …I think there’s someone back home.” Which Rory understood to an extent. As much as someone who didn’t have a relationship back home could understand.
“I need to meet Rhys. Make sure he’s a good guy,” Rory joked. Mostly.
It sounded…like a mess. Madison easily sided with Rory. They were friends and she could understand the concept of wanting those you love, especially your mom, to be happy. Especially when she didn’t have the proof that your mom was actually happy with your dad in the first place. Plus, Lucifer had left Rory for her entire life. That was the elephant in the tiny room and Rory was right; that chip on her shoulder? Not going anywhere, anytime soon.
“Hey, I get it and, for the record, I’m totally on your side about it. You just want your mom to be happy and yeah, Lucifer, regardless of his fucking reasons, left you for your entire life. That’s not something you get over in a few months. Plus, like you said, he’s been here three times already. I don’t blame your mom for moving on.” Madison took a sip from her drink. If she was in Rory’s mom’s place, she would have done the same thing. She would have tried to find happiness where she could get it because this place didn’t promise anyone a tomorrow.
Madison’s ears perked up when Rory mentioned that there was, in fact, a girl she might be interested in. “Oh really? Do I know this potential love interest?” Madison bumped her friend’s shoulder playfully. “And how sure there is someone back home?” Being that Madison didn’t have serious relationships back home, she couldn’t exactly relate. Rhys was her first serious relationship in forever and she’d found him in Madison Valley. Though, she couldn’t imagine holding out hope for someone from home showing up here. The Dome wasn’t that predictable ever.
“Ooo, should I tell him to be afraid?” Madison joked. The blond sobered up though and blue eyes shifted to her drink. “Honestly, he’s great. I think even if you put him through the test, he’d pass with flying colors.” And Madison never thought she’d say that about any guy she was with.
This time, Rory bumped her friend’s shoulder. “Maybe he’ll stick around long enough that I can actually form a meaningful relationship with him. Or, he’ll get sent home next week and I’ll be back to where I was. But, this is the last Lucifer I’m going with whom I’m going to try and form any bond.” If this Lucifer left, it might hurt Rory a bit too much. “Besides, I mostly don’t mind her boyfriend. His kid is cute.”
At the question, Rory grinned. “Her name is Raelle. She’s a witch. From the world where witches make up the military.” Which still left Rory with questions. “I’m not sure. It’s what she doesn’t say sometimes when she looks sad. Maybe I’m reading into it.” Rory sure as shit wouldn’t bank on someone from home showing up. Look at her Aunt Maze missing Eve as much as she did.
She snorted. “No. I’m pretty sure he could easily kill me if he so chose. I’ve seen him at fight night.” Rory might not be into guys, but that didn’t mean things like muscles went unnoticed. “Well, I’m glad to hear it. You deserve happiness, Mads.”
“I’ll drink to that.” Madison raised her glass and then took a sip. She could understand Rory not wanting to go through trying to get close to another Lucifer if this one left. Building that kind of relationship took time, especially after that kind of damage.
Madison couldn’t recall ever speaking to a Raelle. Then again, there were a lot of people here. They just might not have run into one another yet. “Never met her, but if she is waiting on someone from home, she could be waiting the rest of her life,” Madison replied, propping her chin in the palm of her hand. “And losing out on the potential for something pretty great too.”
Madison frowned. “I thought angels were basically unkillable. Immortal. Not that he would kill you regardless…” The witch trailed off. Honestly, she didn’t like to think of them fighting each other.
“But thanks. I honestly don’t think I really deserve it, but-“ Madison shrugged her shoulders. “I guess this place thinks otherwise.”
Rory raised her glass in a toasting fashion.
“Aw, thanks Mads. I think I’m pretty great.” And Rory did. She really liked herself and wouldn’t settle for anything less than what she wanted in life. The confusion made sense. “I’m half-angel, so eternal and not immortal. I don’t age past where I am and I won’t get sick and die, but I can still technically be killed.” Not that it stopped her from living her life, of course. Rory did not wish to fight Rhys.
“Well, this place got that right if nothing else.” Rory squeezed her friend’s shoulder.
The blond clinked the edge of her glass against Rory’s before taking a sip.
“Just facts,” Madison returned with a genuine smile. The witch was proud her friend would not settle for anything less than what she wanted out of life. If she did, Madison would be there to remind her otherwise because what else were friends for?
The blond nodded. “Okay, I get it now.” So she could still be killed, but not aging wasn’t a bad deal at all. Plus, she couldn’t get sick. “I wish I wouldn’t age or get sick,” Madison added with a weak laugh. “Downside of being a witch. You have power, but you will age and if you get sick? Hell, you could die.” And Madison had died three times already. Not from illness, but being murdered. Dying from an illness would actually be a welcomed change.
Madison playfully rested her head briefly against Rory’s shoulder. “Actually, it did. I’ll take that.” Lifting her head, she turned to look at her friend. “And you’ll find that right person too. I know it.” Normally, Madison was not nearly so hopeful, but maybe being in love was starting to have some positive effects on her.
“Now, should we order some bar food and gossip about people for a while?”
