Kira hadn't been here very long and already she was feeling a little like an outcast. That was probably because the host family she'd been placed with seemed kind of terrified of her. It didn't help much that she had a sword with her. It wasn't her fault, really. She'd been practicing with it in the wooded area of Beacon Hills. How was she supposed to know she'd end up in the wooded area of a whole other town halfway across the country?
So that's likely why her host family members looked at her warily, like she was going to straight up murder them in their sleep. That's also why she was wandering around town with the sword on her back safely in its scabbard. She was in search of a storage area of some kind.
Of course, there were other thoughts on her mind. There was the whole Scott and Allison situation. She got it. She watched Allison die in Scott's arms. She knew how distraught he was. How could he not be? How could anyone not be? She'd given him the space he needed to grieve back home. It wasn't hard for her to understand why he'd be back with her in this place. She was alive here. They were given another chance. Kira couldn't be mad.
But she was a little hurt. That wasn't something she wanted to feel. It felt selfish to think that way. Allison was alive. That was what mattered. Kira certainly did not want to be the girl that tried to get between the guy she had feelings for and the girl he clearly had more feelings for. She refused to be that complication. It's not like Scott was her soulmate or anything. She could move on. She had to.
These thoughts lead her to wander around without a clear path. Wasn't that sword on her back supposed to give her balance and clarity or whatever it was her mother told her? Instead, she ended up near the river. She stopped and watched it for awhile, needing a break from those thoughts.
