Qrow couldn't believe the year was almost over. And it had been quite the year. Most of which was good and he had no complaints. The only thing he didn't like was Neo attempting to kill his niece every once in a while. But other than that, it had been a fairly good year. His favorite part, of course, was getting engaged to Elsa.
Qrow didn't feel like going out to celebrate New Year's Eve. He didn't drink anymore, so going to one of the bars was out of the question. He felt like he was too old for the arcade, so that was out too. He decided to just stay in and luckily for him, Elsa had agreed to come over.
When he heard the knock on the door, he went to open it, smiling when he saw her. "Hey," he greeted her with a kiss before stepping aside to let her in.
While Elsa was better with crowds, she still preferred the company of a few close friends to being in a large, social gathering. With Anna and Kristoff attending the ball, Elsa was planning for a simple, quiet New Year’s Eve at home. She’d be about to invite Qrow over when her fiance beat her to it, inviting her over to his place to celebrate the coming of the new year. Of course Elsa said ‘yes’ and after changing into a pair of jeans, a sweater, and boots, the blond made her way over to Qrow’s place.
She’d brought a few things along with her. Mainly chocolate, but also popcorn and a bottle of sparkling grape juice to ring in the new year because Qrow did not drink. She figured if they wanted a meal, they could order in. There were plenty of places that delivered in Madison Valley.
It didn’t take long for her to get there and, after knocking on the door, Elsa barely waited a whole thirty seconds before it was opening and Qrow greeted her with a kiss. “Hey.” Elsa returned the kiss and stepped inside, allowing Qrow to shut the door behind her. Given she didn’t hear Ruby, the blond assumed the young woman was out celebrating the new year with one of her friends or Ron.
Stepping out of her boots, Elsa walked over to the kitchen table and set down her bag. She started to unpack the contents as she spoke. “I bought some stuff for hot chocolate, popcorn, and some sparkling grape juice for when we ring in the new year.” The former queen held up the bottle with a playful smile on her face.
“If you’re interested of course.”
Qrow followed Elsa into the kitchen before helping her unpack. "Sparkling grape juice, huh?" he held the bottle and couldn't help but smile slightly, knowing she got that instead of actual wine because she knew he didn't drink anymore. Though he'd never been a fan of wine back then, so even if she had gotten it, he probably still wouldn't drink it.
"And of course, although I'm not surprised you still want more hot chocolate even after the hot chocolate bar Kristoff and I got you and Anna for Christmas." Qrow himself had more than enough that day, but the two sister's chocolate addiction apparently knew no bounds.
“Yep. I wanted to give you an option that didn’t involve chocolate,” Elsa teased, setting down the bottle in favour of pressing a kiss to his cheek. And yes, she knew Qrow didn’t drink anymore and even if he didn’t like wine, she didn’t want to bring anything into the house that might tempt him at any point. Besides, Elsa wasn’t a huge drinker anyway. She preferred a cup of hot chocolate or tea over an alcoholic beverage anyday.
Elsa giggled. “You know there is never enough chocolate where Anna and I are concerned.” The blond had enjoyed the hot chocolate bar that Kristoff and Qrow gifted to her and Anna for Christmas. It was the perfect gift for two chocoholics like the sisters.
“Did you want to order anything for dinner or just snack on some popcorn?” Elsa put the grape juice in the fridge and held up the bag of popcorn. “I’m good either way. I know we have till midnight anyway so plenty of time to eat and drink more hot chocolate.”
"And I thank you for that." Even if he was teasing, he really was grateful that she thought about him like that. Sure, it was easier now for him to deny anything alcoholic but it hadn't always been that way. It had been very difficult for him in the beginning but now? He was able to be around others who drank, though he was glad Elsa preferred non-alcoholic beverages.
"I'm starting to wonder if there's ever a limit with you two." He had a limit on how much chocolate he could eat and he was sure Kristoff felt the same way. But it seems like the two sisters could never have enough chocolate.
He was about to answer when his stomach suddenly growled. "Guess we're ordering dinner," he said with a sheepish grin. "I'm thinking Chinese unless you have something else in mind." And hopefully there'd be a place that's still open considering it was New Year's Eve.
“Of course.” When it came to people she cared about, Elsa was always thoughtful. Even though she knew he’d been sober for a while and denying alcohol was far easier for him, she still wanted him to feel comfortable. On a more selfish note, sparkling grape juice tasted good and Elsa just wanted to drink it.
At his comment on if Anna and Elsa had a limit on chocolate, Elsa laughed. Honestly, if either of them had a limit, the blond figured they would have reached it by now. No, Anna and Elsa were immune to the pitfalls of chocolate. “I think if we had a limit, we probably would know by now,” Elsa replied, a grin lingering on her lips. “I’m sure you and Kristoff wish we did. It would keep you two from drowning in chocolate all the time.” When Elsa asked what he wanted to eat, she had no preference. For her, Chinese sounded as good as anything else. “I’m good with Chinese. Hopefully, it’s still open.” Elsa went to the couch and pulled out her phone, gesturing for Qrow to join her as she pulled up the restaurant App on her phone. She didn’t see anything on the site that indicated they weren’t currently taking orders at this location.
“You’re in luck. It looks like it is open,” Elsa said, looking over at Qrow. “So, what did you want?”
"I'd be shocked if you two ever reach that limit." It'd be a day to remember, that was for sure. He did wonder if that day would ever come but the more time went on and the more chocolate the two sisters ate, the more he thought that there would be no such day. "Just a little but I can't imagine you not loving chocolate." If something ever happened to Elsa, if she wasn't herself or was replaced by a clone, then he'd know something was off if she ever rejected chocolate.
Qrow wasn't sure if any restaurants would still be open tonight, so he was glad that someone was. Otherwise, he and Elsa would have to attempt to cook dinner on their own. He wasn't a terrible cook but with his bad luck, he wasn't sure if that would be a good idea. Thankfully they were able to order out instead. "I'll just get my usual," he replied, which Elsa probably knew by now was usually chow mein and a few eggrolls.
Elsa was also relieved that a restaurant was open. She wasn’t very handy in the kitchen unless it involved baking. Between her lack of skill and Qrow’s bad luck, it would have ended up as a disaster for sure. Thankfully, they didn’t have to find out.
The blond quickly placed their order, including an order for extra egg rolls, and was pleased to see the estimated delivery time was within an hour, possibly sooner. Closing out the App on her phone, Elsa turned her attention back to her fiancé. “Order placed. It should be here within an hour. So, what did you want to do in the meantime? Watch the countdown?”
"Great." Now that the food had been ordered, Qrow was definitely starting to feel how hungry he was. And even though he was hungry, he wasn't starving and could wait for an hour or so for the food to arrive.
"We can definitely watch the countdown." Which was still quite a ways away but maybe there would be some good bands playing while they waited. "Maybe we can make some hot chocolate or drink some of that sparkling grape juice. Unless you'd rather save that until midnight." There was no guarantee there'd be any left by then if they started drinking it right away.
“Why don’t we open the grape juice? I’m sure you’re sick of hot chocolate by this point.” After all, the two of them had to endure a few cups after the girls were presented their hot chocolate bar for Christmas.
The blond made her way back to the kitchen and pulled out the grape juice from the fridge. Digging through the cabinets, she located two tall glasses. Being that the juice was still a tad warm, Elsa added in some ice before she popped open the bottle and poured some into the glasses.
At least it didn’t explode. Carefully, she took the two glasses into the living room and handed one to Qrow. “Let’s switch on the countdown. Hopefully, the food won’t be long.”
"Sounds good." Once Elsa had turned away to look for some glasses, Qrow sighed in relief. He still liked hot chocolate but right now? He needed a break from it and was glad Elsa suggested having the sparkling grape juice instead.
He thanked her for the glass and took a sip. "Okay, it's actually pretty good." He led the way into the living room, locating the remote and turning on the tv and flipping to one of the countdowns currently being shown. Setting his grape juice on the coffee table, he sat on the couch, making sure there was room for Elsa to sit so he could snuggle up to her.
"So any plans for the New Year? Well, besides the obvious?" he asked, gently playing with the ring on her finger. To this day, he still couldn't believe she said yes. But he was so glad she did.
Elsa claimed a seat beside Qrow on the couch as her boyfriend turned on the television and flipped to one of the many countdown shows. The blond took a sip from her glass and nodded in agreement with Qrow’s statement. “It is good. I’m glad I bought it now, especially since you seem to like it.” Elsa had been a bit nervous about bringing it because she wasn’t sure if Qrow would like it, but hearing he thought it was good, reassured her it was the right choice.
Setting down her glass, Elsa snuggled closer to Qrow on the couch, head resting on his shoulder, and blue eyes on the television. The former queen didn’t know if she would ever tire of watching the countdown shows. They always had performances and it was fascinating to watch the world ring in the new year.
“Getting married. Obviously.” Elsa looked up at him with a playful smile on her lips. “But I guess that is our plan for the new year, not just mine.”
"Maybe we should have it every year." He certainly wasn't going to have champagne or actual wine on New Year's Eve. But sparkling grape juice was a good alternative.
Being a bit older, Qrow had no idea who the musical acts were. Whoever they were, they seemed to be popular as he watched the crowd jump and sing along to the music on the television.
He grinned in return. "Still, it's a pretty good plan, I think," he said before leaning in to give her a kiss. But it wasn't enough so he kissed her again. And again. Before he knew it, they were making out on the couch. A knock on the door caused him to stop for a moment. "I forgot we ordered Chinese," he said sheepishly.
Reluctantly, he stood up and answered the door. After paying, he brought the food over to the table. "Alright, let's eat. We can continue kissing at midnight. Maybe more later," he added suggestively. Hopefully Ruby will stay with Ron for the night or at least won't be home for another few hours.
