Re: Alyssa | Damien
Alyssa could challenge him all day long, but if Damien’s mind was made up, it was rare that he could be made to change it. He was used to being in charge, a leader, and a dominating force. He was hardly in a position to ask Alyssa to be someone else when there was no way in hell Damien would ever conform to someone else’s standards himself. He didn’t gain the power he had in his world by always following the rules; he’d done so by daring many things.
The vampire wasn’t sure how he felt about Alyssa keeping what nature said about him to herself. It didn’t feel as if it lent itself to trust. Even if he could understand why she would choose not to tell him. “I don’t know how I feel about a butterfly telling me I’m hot in a suit, “ Damien admitted. “But a compliment is a compliment regardless of the source.” Even if the compliment was a fairly obvious one.
It was a lot and part of him felt that was putting it lightly. In the last few weeks Damien had been hit with a lot of firsts and while he was adaptable, he was also faced with being without Bran for the first time in his life. Even if the brothers weren’t together, they still communicated. Now he couldn’t even do that. As much as he had grown to care for Alyssa, it wasn’t a replacement for the person who’d had his back for centuries.
“It’s a gift, “ Damien replied. It was his voice, mannerisms, the fact he was a vampire and sex seemed to just ooze from every pore of his pale skin. It was part of his appeal. Though Damien could just as well be an asshole as charming. At the moment he had no reason to be the former.
There might have been a brief quirk of his lips at how lucky she was. “And for both our sakes, let’s hope the next few hours go quickly. Now-“ Taking her hand, Damien expertly spun her. “Let’s dance. I need to keep my hands occupied least I start attempting to put them under your dress again.”
