As much as Nate hated to admit it, he was slowly getting a little more settled in Madison Valley. Of course, he still missed his team and found himself hoping more than once that they would show up just so that he could see them again. It felt odd to wish this on anyone, and there was a big part of him that felt very guilty about that feeling. But then again he had reasoned with himself that if his entire team were to show up then it wasn't so bad for him to wish them here with him. They had survived worse situations, and he knew that with all of them here he would be just fine. For some reason they all had this way of seeing right through to the heart of him and just what he needed, especially Sophie. And he had no doubt that it would be just the same if they were to show up here. But for now he had to live up to the promise he had made to himself and them; he wouldn't allow himself to fall back into his old ways. Isolating himself was the first sure way to fall off the wagon and he didn't want to let them down like that. He had always been a functioning alcoholic, but he was trying to be adult about this. He had cut out hard liquors completely from his life and he only drank wine socially. He knew that most people would say that wasn't the way to go about it, but for him it had been working. Anytime he tried to cut it out completely, the minute he got one sip of something he would fall off the wagon completely. But if he consumed wine and some beers in moderation he seemed to find this balance that worked for him. But for now he was heading out to get himself something else to drink. All he wanted this early in the morning was a good cup of coffee....emphasis on good. Nate was particular about his coffee, so he had been very grateful to find a place that held up to his standards. It was that very place that he made his way into this morning, and he headed straight for the line at the counter. Fortunately for him the wait wasn't long and once it was turn he ordered himself a large black coffee and Scone. His food in hand, he turned to locate a seat for himself; he noticed that the place was a little on the full side, but fortunately he noticed the last empty table near the back and he made his way there. |
