Who: Mads and Rhys What: dancing/date night Where: Verdant When: Sat night Warnings: low Status: closed/g-doc
Rhys wanted to see Madison. A lot. But what he didn’t want to do was cook another meal that obviously tasted delicious to the witch, but that he himself couldn’t enjoy. It sort of made the evening a little less enjoyable, even if the act of cooking brought the High Lord joy. So, he texted her about going dancing instead.
The High Lord wore an outfit that both showed off his body and accommodated his wings. He obviously took care with his outfit, but he also really wanted to be able to move in whatever he chose. Also, Rhys wanted easy to remove clothing, in case the night went in that direction, not that the High Lord expected it.
He walked over to where Madison lived, happy to walk with her to the bar instead of meeting her there.
While the witch enjoyed Rhys making her delicious meals, she was more than fine with having the chance to dance at Verdant that night. Like always, Madison was dressed to the nines in an expensive pair of jeans and a blouse, complete with stiletto boots and a warm winter coat. Hearing a knock at the door, Madison applied the finishing touches to her makeup and made her way over to answer it.
“Rhys, hey,” Madison greeted. She leaned up to press a kiss to his cheek before stepping out into the chilly winter evening.
“So, you look amazing.” Madison complimented as she took his arm.
“Hey,” the High Lord responded, smiling at the greeting. “Well, you look gorgeous as always.” Madison’s outfits always looked like she stepped off a catwalk and knew how to dress to accentuate her figure.
As they walked, Rhys kept Mads’ arm wrapped around his, partly to help ensure she didn’t slip in her heels.
When they got to Verdant, Rhys leaned over and kissed Madison, before looking at the bouncer. Using his powers, Rhys convinced the bouncer that Madison was of age. Humans and their antiquated rules about drinking.
“What would you like to drink tonight?” he asked Madison, as he helped her out of her coat, before handing them to the coat check.
Madison never minded using her mind control abilities to get anywhere, but she certainly had no problem with letting Rhys use his to do the same thing. It made her life a little easier. She offered the bouncer a sickly sweet smile before the two of them stepped into the club. Yes, Madison couldn’t agree more about those ancient drinking regulations.
“Hm. I’m thinking a dirty martini. Maybe something fruity later on,” Madison replied as the two made their way to the bar and settled onto a pair of empty stools. “What about you? If you want anything I mean. I know human stuff doesn’t always taste the best for you.” Though she knew alcohol could be different, depending on what it was.
Rhys ordered a dirty martini for Madison and a double vodka on the rocks. He didn’t mind using his abilities, especially for Madison. The High Lord got the impression that she hadn’t gotten a lot of gentleness or romance in her life and he certainly wanted to help change that.
“Thankfully, vodka still burns and tastes like vodka.” Truthfully, even back home, Rhysand didn’t think vodka had much of a taste, so it didn’t bother him. “I’m a little afraid to try wine, but hard liquor seems to be okay for me. Thanks for asking, though, Mads.”
Madison offered him a rare smile. “Of course. I just…feel bad you can’t enjoy the things you liked back home. That’s all. It feels a little unfair.” And given how kind Rhys was to her, that bothered Madison quite a bit. Madison Valley was her second chance and she got to enjoy every bit of it-the good and the bad-so Rhys should be granted the same courtesy.
Their drinks arrived and Madison took a sip from her martini, nodding her head in approval. “That’s not bad at all. Still burns like a mother fucker.”
He looked down at his drink and shrugged. The High Lord got used to it as much as he hated it. “Thank you. Truly.” Rhys leaned over and offered a light kiss to Madison’s lips. “Your smile might be one of my favourite things to see.” Probably it came off as a line, but Rhys meant it with Madison.
“What’s the good of alcohol if it doesn’t burn?” he joked, taking another sip. “I’m glad the burn is the same.” And that alcohol didn’t have as much of an effect on him. Yes, Rhys could get drunk, but it took him a little more effort.
If anyone besides Rhys said that line to her, Madison would have probably set his boxers on fire. Instead, Madison actually blushed and gave him a quick peck on the lips. “You know if anyone else said that line, I probably would have set their boxers on fire, but you are the exception. Obviously,” she murmured against his lips before settling back on her stool. It was starting to seem like the best exception too. What the hell?
At his comment about the burn, Madison laughed. It was true. If alcohol didn’t burn, how the hell would you even know you were drinking it? “Touche. The burn is where it is at,” Madison replied, reaching for her martini and taking another sip.
Unfortunately, Madison could get drunk pretty quickly given her size. Being a witch did not afford her any sort of higher tolerance.
Rhysand threw back his head in laughter. He realized, of course, how many guys probably used cheap lines on Madison. Given her beauty and her fuck around and find out attitude, he imagined more than a few guys tried and failed badly. But, Rhysand genuinely liked Madison. A lot. And not simply because of her beauty, but she could hold interesting conversations, didn’t seem put off by his damage, and was even more intelligent and observant than beautiful. “I do prefer nothing in that area be set on fire, so I appreciate it.” The blush and murmur caused the High Lord to brush a strand of hair behind her hair. “Well, I certainly won’t argue being the exception.”
“I do always appreciate the consistency of it burning and warming my stomach.” Sometimes the comfortable feeling of alcohol had been the only way to get him through day after day when he’d been…trapped.
“Should we enjoy our drinks a little longer or go dance?”
When he threw back his head and laughed, Madison realized just how much she enjoyed his laughter. It was strange to think that because Madison used to be so shallow when it came to attraction. It was always the physical that attracted her and everything else didn’t matter, mostly because she wouldn’t be sticking around long enough to find out more than that. However, this relationship was turning out differently and the blond, while a little scared, was also enjoying herself too.
“I didn’t think you would.” Because being an exception to Madison wasn’t something to be taken lightly. She wasn’t a girl who fell in love easily, if ever, and even caring for someone was a big deal in her book. She was used to being alone and making friends never came easy to her.
“Hm.” Madison took another sip of her drink as she considered both options. “How about we finish our drinks and then dance?” They had some time before they had to leave after all. Might as well take advantage of every second they could, even if it was just sipping drinks at the bar.
Rhysand leaned over and brushed a piece of hair out of Madison’s face, more as an excuse to touch her.
