Gibbs didn't like being away from his work or his team, but the hardest part about it was not knowing when or how he was going to get back. He trusted Ziva, Tony and McGee to look out for Abby and Duckie, but he would prefer to be the one doing that himself. If something were to happen to any of his team and he wasn't there to do something about it he would never forgive himself. He had already lost so much in his life, and losing another person he cared about was the one thing that might finally break him. So, even though he had been told multiple times that he was stuck here for the foreseeable future, his team was still the main thing on his mind. Though honestly, he was beginning to admit to himself that they were more than a team. But, of course he would never admit that to them, because he had never been good with talking about his emotions. And then there was the fact that he had gotten even worse with that after the death of his wife and daughter. As always there was a few exceptions to the rule....people that he could open up with when it was needed. He knew that he couldn't just completely close himself off while he was stuck here, so even though he wasn't going to be super outgoing he also wasn't going to lock himself up in the apartment that he had been given. The first thing on his to-do list was to find the best cup of coffee in town; after all there was a reason that several of his friends liked to joke with him about his blood being 70 percent coffee instead of water. So, with that in mind he had woken early that morning and after a nice long hot shower, he dressed himself and made his way through the front door of his apartment and out onto the street. As always he had a notebook and pen in the pocket of his long coat, because he was planning on making himself a list. Gibbs was always a man with a plan, and being in this new place wasn't likely to change that. He would do what he had to do to make a home for himself here, and hope that he could eventually go home or that some of his team would join him. The walk to the first coffee shop on his list to try was pleasant enough, and it also allowed him to learn even more about his new surroundings. After about half an hour walking he made his way through the front door, and made his way straight up to the counter. As per usual he simply ordered himself a black coffee and once it was in his hand, he turned to face the dining area. It didn't take him long to choose a booth near the back of the room, even sitting on the side that would give him a good view of the door. He wanted to be able to see the comings and goings of the people just in case there was a threat at any point. He didn't like to be surprised, especially in those types of situations. |
