Who: Elsa and Kristoff (and Sven) What: Christmas shopping Where: Target When: backdated to before the portal Warnings: low
Kristoff learned his lesson after Christmas last year. Do not wait and start Christmas shopping after Thanksgiving, especially if one wanted to buy decorations for a house. He at least made a list, which included a wreath, a new tree taller than like a foot, new lights, a rather good imitation of Olaf, plus some new flannel sheets after he’d accidentally ruined the pair he bought in the washing machine.
He asked Elsa if she wanted to get hot chocolate and help him pick out some things for the house. Kristoff really wanted to surprise Anna and hoped Elsa felt up to helping him. Really, someone else’s opinion who also knew Anna sounded good. Okay, probably Sven would tag along, mostly to stretch his legs.
When Kristoff asked if Elsa wanted to tag along for some Christmas shopping, the blond immediately said ‘yes.’ Of course she wanted to help surprise her sister and pick out some festive decorations for their house. Plus, Elsa had her own Christmas shopping to take care of and while she didn’t plan on shopping for Kristoff and Sven, she could knock out a few other people on this trip.
Dressed in a warm sweater, jeans, and knee high boots, Elsa walked beside Kristoff and Sven as the three of them made the trek to Target. It was a bit chilly, but the cold never bothered Elsa so she barely noticed.
“I definitely want to get more ornaments this year too. The tree felt so sparse last year,” Elsa spoke up as they arrived at the entrance to Target and stepped inside. Unfortunately, Sven would have to wait outside even if Elsa thought he could totally pull off being a service animal.
“We definitely need more ornaments. I’ve also been told I should check out a few of the local stores for ornaments, if we want something a little different.” Kristoff didn’t quite know what that meant, but he wanted to make the tree beautiful.
When they got to the entrance, Sven grumbled, but sat just to the side. Given the last time he’d followed Kristoff into the store and his antlers knocked over a display, Kristoff thought it best if he waited outside.
He grabbed a cart, happy to be in the warmth of the store. While the cold didn’t bother Kristoff too much, he didn’t quite have the same relationship as Elsa. “Thanks for coming with me.” He made it like five feet before he realized he had no idea which direction to go. “Straight? Or to the right?”
“Oh, Anna would love custom ornaments for the tree,” Elsa replied. Elsa would love custom ornaments too, but she knew her sister had a soft spot for cute knick knacks like that. She loved something that had a homemade feel to it. It made it more special somehow.
Elsa gave Sven a scratch behind the ears before Kristoff and her stepped into the store. Elsa let Kristoff take control of the cart and the two started to make their way into the store before Kristoff stopped. Right, a direction. Elsa scanned the store and spotted the Christmas section in the back.
“Did you want to head to the Christmas section in the back or find something for Anna first?” Elsa had no preference herself though shopping for decorations would be easier…probably.
“She would, wouldn’t she?” Kristoff asked, as he aimed the cart towards the decorations. Anna definitely loved cute knick knacks, especially those with a personal touch.
“Decorations. Maybe it will inspire an idea for a gift.” Kristoff tended to struggle with presents for Anna. Mostly because any gift he chose never felt good enough. Anna deserved the world, after all.
“Do you have any gift ideas for Qrow?” the blonde asked Elsa. He stopped in front of the trees. “...I didn’t expect this many options.” The one with the fake snow looked nice or maybe one with lights already attached? No, no lights. Kristoff didn’t want to toss a tree simply because the lights stopped working.
“Decorations it is.” Elsa was also in need of a little inspiration. Sure, she knew Qrow well, but it was hard to come up with something that matched the sparkling ring on her finger. Maybe a chain necklace of some sort? She considered purchasing his band and giving it to him now, but maybe that would ruin that part of their wedding? Yes, Elsa definitely needed some direction. Much like Kristoff, she felt anything she found might not be good enough for her significant other.
“Not yet. Maybe we can both find some inspiration together.” Elsa’s gaze skimmed over the many Christmas trees on display. Kristoff was right; there were a ton of options. However, Elsa didn’t want one with lights already attached either. If they burnt out, the tree would end up in th trash.
“I like the one with the snow on it. I vote for nothing prelit though. If the lights go out, we will have to get rid of the tree,” Elsa commented, glancing over at Kristoff.
Kristoff couldn’t be more excited for Elsa and her engagement. Nobody deserved love more than his sister-in-law, besides Anna of course. He’d be happy to help, but he didn’t know Qrow very well. Probably the blonde should change that at some point.
“I thought the same thing about the pre-lit ones. The snowy one makes me think of home.” Kristoff looked around and noticed an employee. “Excuse me. We’d like to purchase this tree,” while indicating which tree he meant. The employee nodded and went to the back to retrieve the boxed tree.
“Do we want white lights? Or lights with colours?” He looked around and took note of which he liked best and found he didn’t really have an opinion? They all looked good for different reasons.
Elsa was both excited and nervous about her engagement. Oh, she loved Qrow, but there was always a part of her that wondered if she deserved such a wonderful man in her life. And then part of her wondered how it was possible in the first place. Back home, she’d been so wrapped up in finding herself, embracing her destiny, and being there for Anna, that she never stopped to think about love. Even when she found out Anna was engaged to Kristoff the idea of her own engagement never crossed mind. But obviously she didn’t regret it for the entire world. She didn’t know love like this until she met Qrow.
Elsa watched as Kristoff waved over an employee and told him they wanted that tree. As he headed into the back, the blond turned attention to the lights. Yes, did they want white or color? It was difficult because Elsa honestly liked both. White allowed the ornaments to shine, but the colors were beautiful and vibrant. So full of life.
“I don’t know. I like both honestly. I guess it depends on if we want to showcase the ornaments more or let the lights take over,” Elsa replied.
Kristoff would tell Elsa that of course she deserved to have a wonderful partner in her life. He loved his sister-in-law after all. Back home, Kristoff wondered if Elsa would ever make time for the possibility of love, whereas here she obviously did.
“We could always get both and see which we end up liking better?” Kristoff offered. “I do like the idea of colours.” Then he got an idea. “We could go check out the ornaments first? See which we like and then pick the lights after?” Nobody said lights needed to be chosen first, right?
Elsa brightened at the suggestion. “I like the idea of looking at the ornaments first and then making a choice.” If they really liked the ornaments, they would want to showcase them more than the lights. And, if they still couldn’t make up their mind after the ornaments? Elsa was fine with buying both and asking Anna’s opinion.
The employee arrived with the tree in a cart and Elsa offered him a smile in gratitude before turning to Kristoff. “Should we load it into our cart or have them bring it to the front? Or I could always push the empty cart and you could handle the cart with the tree?”
“Why don’t you push the empty cart? I think I can handle the tree.” Kristoff started to think they maybe should call a cab or something to get back to the house. He could walk home with Sven and Elsa could ride with their purchases.
“To the decorations.” Kristoff knew the two of them would have a fun time picking out decorations if nothing else.
