Who: Logan D and Alyssa What: hanging out Where: the park When: Wed. afternoon Warnings: low Status: closed/g-doc
The Netherling made her way to the park to meet Logan. Between Kol rescuing her from the Upside Down, healing, and throwing herself into painting, Alyssa hadn’t seen much of Logan. Which, she really felt needed rectifying. Yes, she did have a crush on him, but Alyssa didn’t think she’d be good for him, so friends sounded good enough.
She brought with her a cappuccino in a travel mug, while she waited for Lo. Today, she’d gone for a sweater that dipped enough in the back to accommodate her wings. Her legs curled up under her on a bench, staring at the world, head tilted.
Logan had felt bad that he and Alyssa hadn’t seen much of each other since the whole Upside Down nastiness. He had been trying to give people their own space because he knew that bad things had happened to people during that time. He, himself, had been lucky and nothing had happened to him or anyone in his close family -- that he knew of.
At least, no one had told him.
However, he really missed spending time with Alyssa so when he got the invite to meet her in the park, he couldn’t have been happier. He had a bit of a crush on Alyssa but didn’t want to do anything that would make her step back from him.
When he spotted her, he smiled, increasing his pace. “Hey, you.”
When Alyssa heard Logan’s voice, she looked up and smiled. “Hey yourself.” The blonde stood and hugged Logan tightly before she pulled away. Her wings, by this point, had healed even if the images from that place and the terror still visited her nightly. She could still hear the noise of her wings being torn and the pain…but if she thought about it too long, she’d be sick. And, the Netherling would rather focus on the cute boy talking to her.
Her arm rested on his shoulder lightly. “How are you? It’s been a few minutes.” As far as Alyssa knew, he’d avoided the Upside Down.
Logan was happy to hold Alyssa just as tightly for a moment and when she pulled away, he gave her a smile. “I’ve been ok. I just celebrated my birthday a few days ago. It’s still weird to believe that there is a two year difference between Kate and I here when we’re supposed to be twins.”
His mind still had trouble wrapping his mind around all of that. It made no sense to him, but somehow here it was true. He had come from two years in Kate’s past or something.
“How are you doing?”
“Yeah, it’s gotta be a mind trip to show up and find your twin is now two years older than you.” Alyssa smiled and kissed Logan on the cheek. “Happy birthday, by the way. I forgot to wish Kate a happy birthday and now feel like a terrible friend.”
At the question, Alyssa shrugged. “I’m okay. The Upside Down can bloody bite me, but at least Kol came and saved me. Elijah too.” She’d rather give credit to her surrogate brother though.
“Do you want to sit?”
“It really is a mind trip and no worries,” he gave her a sincere smile. “If I have the right of it, you’ve been healing and not a terrible friend at all.”
He took her hand in his and kept the hold loose enough that she could pull away if she wanted to. “I’m glad that they were able to save you and I am so sorry that I didn’t know you were in trouble and gone with them.”
Alyssa meant a lot to him and he would have done anything to help her had he known she was in danger.
Alyssa didn’t know what to do about the hand holding. Sure. It felt nice and gave her butterflies. But, Logan deserved someone…who reminded him of a rainbow after a storm, a shooting star, or a girl far more innocent than her. Not the actual storm. Not Alyssa, who knew herself to be dark. She might not be a vampire, but she definitely had more in common with them.
“It’s okay. Really. What’s the point of being an adopted Mikaelson if they don’t come rescue you?” Alyssa joked. “But thank you, Logan.” She knew how lucky she was to have so many who loved her and cared for her well-being. Her hand didn’t leave his, nor did she increase the pressure.
Logan would tell Alyssa that she did remind him of all of those things if she gave voice to what she was thinking. He truly liked Alyssa but was slightly afraid of her adopted brother. He’d never had any run-ins with Kol, but the Mikaelsons did have a little bit of a reputation around town and he definitely didn’t want of them angry with him.
“I’m just really glad that they rescued you and brought you back.” His thumb brushed along the back of her hand. “What have you been up to lately since all of that has ended?”
When Logan brushed the back of her hand, Alyssa stilled. The question didn’t help. She spent time at work, with Bex, and made brunch for Kol and his new ward.
She also attended the orgy. Fucked a few guys to help her get over some physical pain and then Kenny because…she enjoyed sex with him. They worked well as friends with benefits.
“Not much. Just hanging out with people and working.” She looked at Logan. “Logan, I am not a good option for you outside friends.” God, Alyssa didn’t even know what she wanted, although Logan being happy certainly sounded good to her. Why, exactly, did he have to be attractive and so fucking nice?
Logan couldn’t help the flash of disappointment and hurt, but he nodded. “All right. I’m not going to try to change your mind because that would be uncool, shitty and not something I would want to do to my friend.”
He started back down at their hands, his not moving as well. “Can you tell me why you don’t think you’re a good option for me so I don’t spend a lot of time wondering?”
Shit. Fucking hell. FUCK. That look almost broke Alyssa’s heart and was exactly what she wished to avoid, thanks. She inhaled slowly and searched for words to explain exactly why Logan needed to find someone else.
“Because,” and she breathed out again. “Because you’re this sweet person. You’re kind, smart, loyal. You’re...you deserve someone whole and kind. A girl who calls to mind milkshakes at a picnic or a gentle rain in a field of flowers. I’m not that. I can be that girl, but…” the Netherling stopped.
“It wouldn’t be fair to force myself into that box for either of us.” Alyssa took another sip of her drink. “Someone once told me that I crave chaos and I’m happiest when the world is in an uproar. Maybe back then I’d argue the merits of this description, but now I know it’s accurate.” She looked at Logan. “I’m sorry.”
Logan was quiet for a long time. “I would never want you to pretend to be something you aren’t, Alyssa. I like you far too much to ever think like that.” He looked down at his hands and tried to put all of his thoughts into words, and ended up stumbling over them.”But for the record? I like the girl you are just fine and you bring life to people who might feel that it is a bit too dull for them.”
He turned and looked at her and there was a small smile on his face. “I’m glad to have you as one of my close friends, Alyssa. And if you ever want to try for more, you can always find me,”
The blonde nodded. “I’m glad to have you as a close friend too, Lo. Thank you.” She needed to go home and cry or scream or something. The overwhelming urge to get high and paint made the rest of the night’s activities easy to decide.
Alyssa swallowed down her feelings. “I…should go, but I’ll text you later, okay?” She just needed space and time to work through her feelings. After squeezing Logan’s hand, Alyssa made her way home.
“Ok.”
Logan stood there for a few moments watching her walk away, and then turned to head home. Maybe talking to his Uncle Nick would help with the heaviness now sitting in his heart. wrap!
